Thanks so much, this helped me alot, my key was jammed in the ignition, unable to get off the 1 position. I brought another ignition key set from ebay for £25. As I cannot be bothered to pay for reprogramming - I use the original key now just to set the immobilzer and the new key to turn the ignition. Using a dremel drill to cut slots in those bolts was a real nightmare but it worked.
@jpwns36010 ай бұрын
How do you do that exactly? Sorry I know it's an old comment but I'm having the same issue. Do you just slide the old key in and take it out and turn with the new key?
@mikeydstar0110 ай бұрын
@@jpwns360 yeah it was a nightmare!! I had to buy another key barrel set from eBay. As I did not have the money to have the new one reprogrammed I ran it with two keys. I key just told the car I had the key as it was jammed in the barrel the other key was used to start the car. The MOT people failed it for this reason claiming it made it dangerous to drive. I must admit it was a bit clunky. Still I have a keyless ignition car now

The security bolt can be loosened using a cold chisel to tap it around. The new bolt has a hex extension which snaps off after tightening.

Update: In my case, once I got the ignition cylinder out (the difficult part), I was able to narrow the issue down to some damaged tumblers. A local locksmith had them in stock and replaced them in about an hour for $50. Hopefully this saves some others from having to buy a new whole new ignition cylinder. And +1 to using a center punch on the shear bolts. I unsuccessfully tried to cut a groove to take one out with a flathead screwdriver which took about an hour, them found the center punch method in another video and had them out in 5 minutes.

Some new ignition lock cylinders doesn’t come with a new immobilizer unit , mine didn’t. You would want to use the old immobilizer unit anyway cause I found an easier and cheaper way. And that is a immobilizer unit that he pointed to. I found it a lot easier to just change the inside of the old key fob with the new one. You can buy one with the extra holes if the new key fob doesn’t come with the proper fit. Or you may be able to make extra holes in the new fob, that’s what I ended up doing. I didn’t need to do anything else cause the old immobilizer unit and the inside of the old key fob works together. Saved me a lot of time and money. No green key light, car started up fine and no programming at all. Door locks worked fine. But I did keep the old key just in case I needed it to unlock the doors or trunk manually.

Can you buy the lock cylinder only instead of the whole assembly?
@fun_ghoul5 жыл бұрын
Yes. I think they have them on Aliexpress. Definitely a good way to go if your switch works fine. For that matter, once the cylinder is out, it's easy to get inside it and either replace or (shhh...) _remove_ the sticking wafer(s). Reply if you have questions. Good luck, saathi.

Help! My husband just installed a new ignition in a 2005 Honda Civic. But, the keys that came with it will not turn at all. So, no dash lights. Was told we need to have a locksmith come out to unlock it, THEN take it to dealership for programming. Any advise as to why the new keys won't turn? Tried everything. Thanks
@MattsMotorz7 жыл бұрын
That sounds odd to me. The keys should turn it. Take it out and see if it turns with it off the car. Perhaps it was installed incorrectly. That's the only thing I can think of. I haven't done much of these. You absolutely need it programmed though. That requires a locksmith or going to the dealer (or knowing someone with the right equipment like I do!)
@Karen-db6bc7 жыл бұрын
MattsMotorz First, thanks so much for getting right back to me! Your the only one who even responded. Do you mean to take out just the switch or the entire ignition? My husband said that removing the whole ignition will ruin it because of the break away screws.
@MattsMotorz7 жыл бұрын
Damn I forgot about those screws. Try turning your steering wheel as you turn the key. Sometimes the steering wheel lock gets binded up from the steering wheel torqued to the side while its locked. Turning it back and forth while turning the key fixes that.
@Karen-db6bc7 жыл бұрын
MattsMotorz I'm wondering if that's part of the problem. The steering wheel won't lock in any position.
@Karen-db6bc7 жыл бұрын
Woo hoo! Did more research on why the steering wheel wouldn't lock. Someone suggested the steering wheel pawl might be stuck. My husband gave a couple of good whacks with a rubber mallet underneath on the metal and voila! Everything works, just need to program the keys. Hope this helps someone else. Thank you for your time and feedback.

Hi. TY for the Video, it's very informative. QUESTION!: Can I put an 02 or 03 Ignition cylinder, with new door cylinders in my 2001 Civic LX ? Im having a hard time finding one for my year... Thanks in advance. =)
@fun_ghoul5 жыл бұрын
Definitively, you can put the ignition switch assembly in any 01-05 Civic from any other, as long as you use one with the interlock switch for an automatic. This means you can "upgrade" to the shitty "high security" keys if you like the look or want a shitty Chinese flippy Fobik, or _actually_ upgrade your 2003.5, 2004 or 2005 to the older and superior HD106. Of course, if you switch types, you're stuck with 2 keys until you change your door/trunk locks.

@MattsMotorz7 жыл бұрын
It is impossible to say. What should be done is to use a multimeter throughout the circuit (with the help of the wiring diagram and the factory service manual) to see where you are losing the connection, starting at the lock cylinder itself.

Allow me to crangratulate you on scrapping a lock that should have been repaired. First, the cause of the locks failure was due to the key wearing to the point that the tumbler (s) were forced sideways and jammed rather than sliding up and down. A locksmith could have made you good keys, replaced the worn tumblers and transfered all of the trasponder chips to new keys. Doing it that way would have kept all your locks on one key, and prevenred the old worn keys from killing the door and trunk lock.
