Thank you so much for this video! My kid and I repaired his ignition after he had to have it towed back to the house because his ignition jammed up. Took us a couple father/son hours and got it back up and running. Saved us hundreds of dollars and it got the phone out of his hands for the afternoon.

Thanks so much as I was unsure of what to do when the steering lock/arm slid back as the lock would not go together. Your explaining on how depressing the steering lock puts the little arm back to position for installing the lock. I spent hours trying to figure this out and your video cleared up what happened, One way or another the steering lock needed to be in correct position for installing the lock. You are the only person I seen who addressed this issue. Greatly appreciated. Great job. Kleff

Thank you SO MUCH, sir. 16:30 was my issue, this is the second time I change the ignition switch and got blocked again. The first time I had the car to the locksmith thinking it was the lock cylinder, but not sure how the ignition switch was related with the failure, at the point that I thought it was coincidence. Obviously, the folks from the locksmith did not say what the actual problem was. The second time it got blocked I was so mad, it could not be a coincidence anymore, your video saved me money.

After watching this video I googled his name and contacted him. I sent my lock to him and he rebuilt it and cut a new key. Often the old key won’t work with the new wafers. I got it back and installed it and It works great. I cannot say enough about his great service. The cost was 1/4 of what a new lock set would have been installed and programmed by a shop.

Great video on how to get the key cylinder out of the housing assembly. That drill bit tip works great to get the roll pin out. The other tip with the pick tool worked great too. I just remove the tumblers and the springs and put the key cylinder back together. It still has the chip in the key. You still can’t start it without the key. It’s just as secure as push button start now. The other feature now, You can take the key out and leave the engine run and lock the doors and go in the store. I took mine apart before it actually totally screwed up. The key cylinder was starting to not want to turn. I figured that was my two minute warning I better fix it before it leaves me sit somewhere.

THis is amazing. Mine is a 2013, slightly different looking cylinder, but the steps were the same. Execpt I can't get the Cylinder back into the housing. The little seer piece hits the inner part and wont go beyond
@gerbodis3 жыл бұрын
I realized that I believe with 2013-2017 Civics, you have to unscrew the steering lock on the housing, press down on a metal piece and that will pop out the internal part that connects to the Lock Cylinder. You then have to put the lock cylinder and the internal part back into the housing at the same time holding them together as you push them into the housing. This is because the seer piece on the lock cylinder need to go passed the ring on the internal part, but it can't because the housing blocks it from doing that if you're trying to push the lock cylinder in.

A remarkable video, very professional. Thanks for the quiet and methodical explanation of every detailed thing you did. I'm preparing to remove the core of my lock on a 2007 CRV. I was confused to see you cut a new key. I wish to keep my old keys and I hope my locksmith is able to fit the "wafers" in the tumbler to fit my keys. Is that possible or do I have to switch keys and put in the code thing from my old key? Thank you.
@kernkeys85773 жыл бұрын
The used keys may function for a while, but the wear on the key will cause accelerated wear on the wafer tumblers in the ignition. This will lead to premature ignition lock failure. In cases where the old keys are extremely worn they may fail to enter repaired lock, due to the new wafers digging into the rounded edge of the track milled into the key. I have repaired ignitions like this since 2013 and have never had anyone tell me that an ignition I repaired has failed again. I get calls from from people with locked up ignitions that have had theirs repaired by other locksmiths, that didn't cut new keys. The ignitions lock up prematurely and need to be repaired again.
@daultonruff22813 жыл бұрын
@@kernkeys8577 I've watched other videos that validate your statement. I've failed to remove the core like I planned. I'll have to take this to a professional. @willhaile92724 жыл бұрын
I didn't understand why you would remove any wafers but the broken ones. Seems like unnecessary extra work. Having removed the wafers and the springs, how does one identify the wafers for the right slots so they conform to the key cut so the cylinder rotates? I think I would prefer to remove each wafer, and if it wasn't broken, I would put it back so as not to get it confused with the others. Also, I would have liked to see the key placement in the code cutter. I like your method of removing the roll pins. Its the easiest way I've seen yet. Thanks Kern.
