With the yellow transmission dipstick, that I point to near the end of the video, on the driver side of the engine bay.

Just bought same year outback wagon with only 79,700 miles on it, don’t know how it’s possible but it’s true lol… the transmission is slipping between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd do you think this will resolve that problem or just aid the problem
@DrewsBackYardMechanics4 ай бұрын
Whenever I have a transmission slipping, I 1st try only changing 1 quart of transmission fluid, & see how it reacts, if it seems to help, I will try changing 1 quart of transmission fluid every oil change, if it doesn't help you could try a quart of Lucas, I do know the owner of this Outback had to have the transmission rebuilt, about a year later, they seem like weak transmissions to me.
@Exz174 ай бұрын
@@DrewsBackYardMechanics do you happen to know how much he paid for the rebuild or even a ball park guess
@DrewsBackYardMechanics4 ай бұрын
@@Exz17 So actually, I was mistaken, he had someone replace the transmission with one with low miles from the junkyard, & before installing it they changed the fluids & filter, but he said in total it was under $2,000, but of course that will very depending on where you live.

Should I change both filters I’m putting in a new gasket or just the internal one
@DrewsBackYardMechanics4 жыл бұрын
At least the internal one, but why you're under there the other is easy enough to change and is not expensive

Hi thanks for posting this I have a 2002 outback it's been over 170,000 since I bought it and want to do gearbox oil do you know if it's the same basic setup as yours and does it need to be drained first Please help me 🙂
@DrewsBackYardMechanics2 жыл бұрын
It should be I will check
@DrewsBackYardMechanics2 жыл бұрын
It is the same basic setup, & if you are going to change the fluid you will need to drain the old fluid first

I just bought a outback same year as yours with 146k, what maintenance should i do? Besides the obv water pump belt kit. All fluids flush ? Diff ?
@DrewsBackYardMechanics5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't do a flush, just a fluid change
@jahpunk75 жыл бұрын
thanks for the vid man, i also have 03 outback, 205k miles...do u add AT fluid while engine is running?
@DrewsBackYardMechanics5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, you want the transmission warm when you check the fluid level to make sure you get a proper reading. I always park the car on a level surface, and put the car in neutral with the car idling with the parking brake set.

Hello, about how much fluid came out, I know the manual says 9.8qt for the entire transmission but obviously not all of the fluid comes out.
@DrewsBackYardMechanics3 жыл бұрын
I honestly can't remember maybe 6 or 7 quarts
@stanza77 Жыл бұрын
How many quarts did you drain out and how many did you add?
@DrewsBackYardMechanics Жыл бұрын
I honestly can't remember, but a Subaru online forum said it's anywhere between 4 to 5 quarts

Any idea for the torque speca on that internal strainer?

Just snug that's all I did, but if you call a Subaru dealership they should be able to tell you if you are worried about it.

I've got an 04, H6, 5eat 5 speed auto, my external filter is up in the L/H front guard and I'm wondering if mine has the internal filter as well ?? as it would be wise to change that as well, If anyone can tell me that would be great, also, great video mate and hi from Australia.

My car has a big nut where the little filter goes..why.....
@DrewsBackYardMechanics3 жыл бұрын
Is the big nut on the back of the filter because that's so you can put a wrench on it
