Thx for this video. I have an 04 and the leather is shot on the wheel and I wanted to replace and this video helped me out a lot. Note you need to have radio 4 digit code after disconnecting the battery.

If you don't have the 4 digit code for the radio, there is a way to work out what it is, by entering the radio's hidden menu settings...

Thanks for this video. Btw does it safe enough to plug the battery during ignition switch in position II ?

Serhii Ihnatiev not wanting to be liable I refrain from a concrete answer but will add I unplugged negative, put key into position and also left the the door open for ~10 minutes

Can I ask where you bought that replacement wheel? I have an 03 S40 myself and was hoping to get a different steering wheel.

b0rgishm0rg absolutely. The wheels are pretty rare to come by in the US but I got mine on UK ebay. I found someone friendly enough to order it for me on the uk forums, remove the airbag, and ship it my way. You can ship airbags, but you need to have the proper authorization to ship hazardous materials... which I did not have and I did not want to be responsible for it going off having it shipped anyway. If you can find it without the airbag, even better. FWIW when I contacted the sellers directly, most weren't willing to either ship to the US and/or remove the airbag.

***** Ah okay, they did seem hard to find in the little amount of time I was looking. Thank you though, I will see if I can find a European or UK seller to order from.

Can you do me a favour and check... when your steering wheel is central, how many turns is it from centre to left lock? and how many turns is it from centre to right lock? Is the number of turns exactly equal both ways?

It "should" be roughly equal, if you were already in good alignment. Probably 3.5 turns each way or 4.

Can you do a video of how you loosen the dashboard, there the gauges is, speedo, rev, fuel and temp?

Not my post. Gatos has pictures on how to perform this here. www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=184922 With my new wheel, I found it more difficult to pull it through the wheel than on my older one. Expect the horn to go off while you pull it out or put it in unless you disconnect the battery.

Is it possible to adjust the steering wheel angle by removing it and refitting it in a different position?

Probably not. There is a lever underneath though to adjust the height... probably the best you're gonna get but it's not what you're after.

My horn doesn't work, but i'm afraid that the air bag will pop when i open the steering wheel. Can it really happen?

Patryk Antkowiak definitely disconnect the battery and discharge the system before trying to remove the cover, who knows what’s going on in there. The likelihood the connections come off and it pops is probably low, but you don’t want that thing exploding in your face.

@@TomKrall Thank you for answer. But will nothing happen after reconnecting the battery? For now, I will try other repair methods, and take the steering wheel down as a last resort.
