I bought an old 1978 Sixpack camper for $400 and my wife and I had some of the best times camping with that. We did stand-on-your-tailpipe Jeep trails in it, got way the heck out there, set up camp and did day hikes into the wilderness. It sure is awesome to take a shower, cook a hearty meal and get into a clean bed at the end of the day. We used it a lot until our family got too big so now we have a regular RV. Would love to have something big enough for the family that can still do 4x4 trails. EDIT: My camper was 1700lb , this behemoth is 4000 lb good god

And heaven help you if you have a rear blowout at speed.

5:02 one correction, he doesn't have a compressor style fridge if it uses propane. He has a 2 way power absorption refrigerator. It relies on a source of heat to evaporate a refrigerant to drive the cooling cycle instead of a compressor. So, you can use 110v or a small propane flame to heat the refrigerant.

Where I'm from, nearly everyone owns a trailer or camper. Many have cabins tucked away somewhere. There are a few who use them for hunting, as a base camp of sorts, but for most it's a status symbol. . Camping is homelessness cosplay. It's what you do for fun when you already have a roof over your head that you work to maintain and use as your sanctuary from the world. You have means, you have stable income, you have acquired your own habitat... so why do so many people get campers and trailers? Just to show off to the neighbours and co-workers. So you get the camper/trailer, you load it with satellite tv, microwave, AC, and all the comforts, and you wait for everyone else to notice it, and you imagine you hear them all saying "Wow, Steve is doing well. He's got a second home and it's almost as big as his first home." . I live in the mountains of Western Canada. Nature is literally within spitting distance from the front door. But most people who go "camping" drive less than half an hour away to the local lake, to the "flats", and in some cases just to the campground at the edge of town. They are literally a 4 minute drive from home, but they take the trailer or camper and pay for a spot, and for a day or two they live in a smaller box than the one they are used to. Only the smaller box needs cleaning on a far higher level at the end of the weekend, because you don't wanna park it with a tank full of brown for a week or month or however long it is before you take it out again. And then there's the quads... They haul or tow the camping unit to the campground, then get a ride back to pick up the quads to go quadding, that is, unless you paid extra for the toy hauler package, so your second smaller home comes complete with a garage. There are beer runs, grocery store trips, and going back into town to eat at the restaurant so you don't have to cook. . And it's all stuff you could have done from home, from the comfort of your couch, with a full size fridge, and a toilet you don't need to drain and clean, and a shower you don't need to refill. You could have saved all the time and money you spent on that second, smaller home and used it on something else. You could have helped your kids get a home of their own. You could have paid for your grandkids' education. You could have bought that Dodge Challenger Hellcat and taken the Mrs. to the coast and stayed in hotels for a few years in a row. . But people won't see that. No one will see your kid's kid getting a degree and say "Wow, Steve is doing well. He just gave the world another veterinarian". And the Hellcat will be in the garage all winter, out of sight, out of mind. But the Camper/trailer... that's too big to hide. Even when you aren't using it, it's parked beside or behind your house, on the concrete pad that used to be your lawn, and everyone can see it. And you imagine that since they see it, they all say the same thing: "Wow... it is almost as big as his first house."

Where I'm from, quadding, hunting, and boating are frowned upon inside city limits. You can't do any of those things from your 1st home.
@JS-hw8ve
@JS-hw8ve 3 жыл бұрын
@@ben501st Hunting is illegal within city limits... but 4ish minutes drive gets you outside limits. The two lakes and one major river are just outside city limits, so 6ish minutes away. And the RCMP are lax about quading, allowing it on back roads and alleys as long as there are no complaints from the neighbours, and they are loose about allowing quads, side by sides, and dirtbikes in town as long as they try and stay off the road. . They used to be allowed on the road until about 10-15 years ago. It is a small town.

I have a 2003 Excursion. This era HD ford are known for having soft springs and also lack a rear sway bar. Upgrading to airbags in the back and adding in a rear sway makes a TON of difference, especially if you are hauling any weight. Went from two handed white knuckling at 50 to one handed cruising at 70+ pulling a 27' Trailer after getting the suspension sorted. =D
