2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 Review - The Coolest Thing Chrysler Ever Built - VIPER V10 POWER!

Back in 2005 my now wife and I were walking around the streets of Berlin. We’d been there for a couple days at this point and all the standard European cars with their small gasoline or Diesel engines had begun to blend into the background. As we were walking down the streets I heard a far off distant rumble. I looked at my wife and said “that’s not European, that’s an American engine!” A couple seconds later a bright red Ram SRT10 came shooting past with all the onlookers desperately trying to take pictures of it. That truck was as exotic to the Germans as something along the lines of an SLR is to us Americans. Not gonna lie, made me proud to be an American on that day in Berlin! Being a MOPAR or no car kind of guy it legitimately made me feel a little more at home.

I had a silver extended cab automatic 2005 SRT-10 Ram for almost 9 years and that thing was great! Daily drove it with no problems the entire time I owned it.

The trx may be quicker but the srt10 still has a higher top speed. The TRX tops out at 120, same with the raptor. I have a Srt10 Ram in Blaze Red I got for $13k with 104k miles and currently at 120k and hits 125 mph extremely quick for its age.

Please don’t try and compare your SRT 10 to a TRX. I owned an SRT 10 myself and the TRX is in a different league. The speed limiter doesn’t matter it can be removed. Just stop.

I have a 2003 single cab V6 that is still running. Whenever the engine dies i thought about building the srt-10 clone. I'm currently getting 13mpg so going to 9 wouldn't be much difference,just faster

Fantastic review. Love me some Ram SRT10. Another automotive channel I'm subscribed to also reviewed one of these, only this time it was the Quad Cab. And from what I can gather, it's not just the slower performance and increased reliability problems that differentiate the automatic and manuel. Because the transmission is based off a Cummins diesel engine, the overall feel of the truck is more like a workhorse and less of a sport truck. Which feels underwhelming when the engine is.....I mean come one it's the from the Viper.

Yeah exactly. It’s half a second slower to begin with due to the 500 extra pounds and then you also have 2 less gears. But even so, you can’t go into this expecting it to feel like a Viper. It is 2000 pounds heavier!! And still has the truck like tendencies. Still felt awesome and pulls but not like a supercar.

People get the auto to tow with. You can tow up to 6500 pounds with it. The manual is technically not supposed to tow anything as stated in the manual. Mine had a tow package none the less and couldn’t tow anything. People do but you run the risk of screwing up the transmission big time.

I owned a 2005 regular cab, silver with a tonneau cover and six speed. Most fun I’ve ever had in an automobile. Hard to drive fast…and people think the Viper was hard to drive.

I had a 2004 Black/Black RC 6 speed. Sold it in early 2022. It was ok. At it’s release it looked like no other truck but a lot of trucks look like this now. It moved pretty good but drove like a truck and had a lot of shake to it. It was just ok really. I don’t regret selling it as a lot of vehicles now make almost the same power while getting way better gas mileage. That thing drank gas. Anyway, it was fun but ehhh…better trucks out there now.

The 3rd gen viper engine also ran hot. I swapped a 170 degree thermostat in mine but it didn’t really help on really hot days. Needed to do an ecu mod to turn the fans on earlier. So yeah the truck was pretty cool but in the end it’s really time to leave the party now.

Yes and the srt 10 emblem had an orange color in it on the 06s whereas the 04s it was just a chrome badge.

Chrysler is the king of gimmicks and this truck was no different. Built to shock the markets and it did this. Unfortunately, a Ford Lightning with 385 hp 450 tor. would eat it alive 24/7.

@@WhudUpKneeGrow Not stock on stock because you can't hook from a stop in the Ram and you sure can't outshift the Ford automatic from a roll. I had a Ram Viper and couldn't come close to a lighting due to the auto tranny and monster torque the cobra produced. Also owned a stroked 2004 Rumble Bee with a 125 shot that ate the Viper to pieces. I love the Ram Viper but it wasn't produced to race light to light or drag strip.

You are right. Had a 2004 RC stock 6 speed and lost to a friend’s Lightning on a regular basis. I could shift the hurst. It didn’t matter. The Lightning was just faster.
