I just bought a Silver 04 VIPERTRUCK a couple of months ago. Always loved them ! Viper has ALWAYS been my favorite car, and getting my hands on this truck was a dream come true. It has a lot of mileage on it though 132k, so I know that this is going to end up being a huge money pit, but I love my truck. I didn't know that Silver was the least common of the three colors. I have seen a lot your videos and I always seem to learn something from them, even just now when you reviewed the exact truck I just purchased. Thank you, Mr. Racer X, and keep up the great work.

Such a fun truck, I have a 2005 yellow fever edition regular cab, it’s definitely a drivers truck, pure power and no electronic nannies. Something is up with that shifter though, mine is much more precise and direct and doesn’t lean way over like that.

I remember when these came out, Dodge made them in response to the Ford Lightning supercharged trucks. The Supercharged Ford lightning was in Guinness book of records with a top speed of 146 and this Ram beat it with a top speed of 156. I owned a 2003 SVT Lightning but the RAM was a more upscale truck than the Lightning was.
@morrischoo99602 жыл бұрын
I had the 99 lightning and a 93 and 95. The 99 was actually more balanced than the srt10. And it was quicker with a transmission tuner and smaller pulley. But I really want one of these now. Just a beast..

Dailied my '04 for 14 years and put 180k miles on it. If you can get your hands on an X-Metal shifter, that's the way to go. It has a built-in pivot which will direct 2nd-3rd and 4th-5th upshifting so you just have to hammer the shifter back-and-forth without any seeking.

OH WOW! What a nice truck! Back in the day my buddy had a quad cab SRT 10. While I absolutely loved it, he in fact actually hated it. He bought it while he was on tour in Iraq. I actually picked him up from the airport and drove him to the lot to pick the truck up. About a month after owning the truck he told me he wished he never bought it. Said it was a pain in the butt to drive and that it drank gas like a whale drinks water. Funny watching you comment on the long stroke of the shifter. Jay would joke and say the throws were so long his arm would fall asleep between gears. The only thing he liked about it was the torque. He told me it could tow anything but refused to do so because towing made the gas mileage even worse. I thought the truck was incredible. I begged him to sell it to me instead of trading it in. Jay wasn't really a car guy, but I was. It drove me crazy knowing all of the things I could do to that truck that Jay didn't wanna do. I never got the chance to do those things. Jay got married and moved to Houston a few months afer he bought the truck. Unfortunately I eventually lost touch with Jay. He was a great guy. This review brought back some good memories. Thank you for that. I love the reviews of these slightly older cars. Can't wait to see more of them!

For those commenting on the video about shifter throw, they're not that bad at all. I have a 2004 with only 5k original miles on it. The truck in this video is no doubt ridden hard and was put away wet. There's a rubber cup that goes between the shifter handle and the top of the transmission. When they become worn, you get sloppy shifting, long throws and gears are hard to find. Mine is crisp, precise and much shorter throws. If the previous owner hammered the hell out of it, this is what you get. Find one that isn't beat to death and I think your enjoyment level will go up signifigantly.
@VenomKen8 ай бұрын
Someone hosed the shifter on that one. They aren't that sloppy. 20 years later mine is still almost as good as it was new.

Mr. X, that is a "used" truck; that shifter is excessively worn out/sloppily adjusted. A shifter service or replace w/ short throw or similar will cure that wide shift pattsrn! Thanx, Jeff in Nor California! P.s.- i have a 2019 Challenger GT & i use to have '06 Magnum SRT8!

Thanks for the review. I have an ‘08 regular cab/bed 2wd 4.7V8/6speed manual with 42,xxx miles. While it’s down about 200 hp and 170 tq, it still pulls well. It was the last year for a manual in any 1/2 ton pickup and the first year for the updated 4.7V8 with 310/335. Since I’m the OG owner, it’s still under factory drivetrain warranty. The shift on my NV 6 speed is a lot shorter and precise than that T56…but nowhere as stout. It’s capable of barking the tires from 1st to 2nd.

Great review Racer X! I used to be a Mustang fan until my wife and I saw the the Dodge Challenger at the Cleveland Auto Show! Got my first Mopar, a 2009 Challenger SRT8 a year after. Next was a used 2004 SRT10 Ram, a few C7 Corvettes, and then back to Mopar. A 2016 B5 Blue Hellcat, and recently a 2022 Octane Red Hellcat Redeye. FCA sent an email to me asking how I liked the 2016 Hellcat after having it for 2 years, and I replied...It's just about the perfect car, the only thing that could improve it would be to add Bacon! I didn't hear back from them! My two sons also have Hellcats, a 2016 Go Mango and a 2017 Pitch Black. The younger son had two Ford Lightnings that were really quick. The sound of the Eaton blower was a big part of the acceleration sensation.

I think that the 2005-2006 quad cab Ram SRT-10 is the only automatic Viper V10-powered vehicle ever made. The 2006 models got better looking interior and exterior facelift. I would have loved to see another high performance on-road Ram 1500, but that never happened.

I would love to get this truck someday. Good video. You mentioned a lot about how fun it is to drive and how rare it was. It would have been cool to hear more of a review though. I liked the stats of how rare it was but you probably said it ten times. How does it corner? How does it pull out of one? Do all four tires feel connected or does the heavy engine and light rear end make it have severe oversteer? How's the sound of the radio? Does the interior rattle? That kind of stuff. Thumbs up none the less.

I had a new 93, 95 and 99 Lightning. And now just 3 months ago I was wanting one of these. The Prices nationwide have gone up. Low mileage ones are near 50k. The one that got away was about 37k with 20k miles on the east coast. I ended up with the 15 Srt Challenger 10k miles 6spd 41k. The rarity of the truck and collectible potential are Absolutely still getting at me. Maybe if the Challenger moves up in value, I might move close to 50k for a 10k Srt10. These are beasts. A friend of mine that owned a dealership back in 04 had this for his daily. It was a brick with a rocket engine from what I remember. So muscular..

I have a silver 2005 totally custom Ram SRT-10 Viper Truck and I love and it turns heads everywhere I go whether it be from the headers and full exhaust or slammed look and mods I did. The trucks an absolute beast and with the 305 gears will break free in first or second at mid rpms and a stomp of the pedal. But sucked on the highway so I changed the gears to 411s and now have to be at 80mph to enter into 6th gear. Shifter definitely takes a while to get use to and still commonly miss from 2nd to third. That shifter appeared extra loose like mine was and that was due to a dried out rubber insert that goes between the shifter rite below the leather boot. Since the actual shifter is 2 pieces and rite at the 45 degree bend to go straight down into the box is where 2 bolts hold it together with the rubber between the steel mating points(cheap and horrible design like the plastic slave cylinder and shifter cup) . My truck is on my channel in some of my shorts if ya wanna check it out. Did I say i installed Lamborghini doors on it as well. Great review video you were spot on my friend. Always True, Woody
