I worked at Jeep Truck Engineering in Ram Vehicle Development during the inception of this truck. We had built a few test mules years before the actual Viper truck was released and had an absolute blast driving them around the metro Detroit area, beating up on unsuspecting pony cars of that era. They were a handful to drive but would lay rubber for as long as you were willing to let them. Non stop shenanigans.

BUT, it is the Mineral Grey, and NOT "Silver"... and it has the dual rigt-side exhaust and molded bumper of the 2006 models..?? I do not have documents on the exact build date. My only guess is that it WAS Silver, and the previous owner changed out the rear bumper, and upgraded the exhaust, then re-painted it into the 2006 color...

I've got a Gen 3 Viper and the parts issue usually falls into one of three categories. 1. Shared part across the Chrysler lineup-usually available and inexpensive. Examples include switches, sensors, etc. 2. Difficult to find Mopar parts but aftermarket substitutes and upgrades are available. Usually pricey. 3. Viper-specific part. Expensive. Often unavailable because Chrysler has a habit of discontinuing parts for low-production vehicles as soon as they can-so you're looking for used or NOS parts at significant markup. That's kind of what you deal with on a rare vehicle. There's not enough of them to make it worthwhile for the aftermarket en masse, and those that do charge a premium because they've got limited numbers that they can sell. The manufacturer doesn't care because it doesn't make sense to make parts for vehicles that are long out of warranty and not numerous enough to generate profit servicing.

I did have the power steering and oil cooler line leaks. In fact, even the replacement cooler lines leaked. And I did do the clutch hydraulics upgrade. The power steering leak was the most painful. The radiator fan is hydraulically driven from the power steering pump. So a low steering fluid levels also meant some scary engine temperatures.

It gets .0000007002 miles per gallon (and runs best when the gas is poured into the tank one drop at a time using a turkey baster), raises people from the dead anytime I drive by a cemetery, and does my laundry for me (including separating delicates). Only real issue I've had with it is occasionally one of the 100 dollar bills isn't as crispy as I prefer, but that's not as big of a deal to the random people I give them away to as much as it's an annoyance to me...

A very cool truck with a pretty serious design flaw. You take a Viper V10 engine (heavy) and put it in a RAM 1500 (heavy) and front mount it (front heavy) and then only sell it as a 2WD truck (nearly no weight over where 100% of the power is going) and you end up with a heavy truck that struggles to put down all of that power and LOVES to over-steer under any kind of cornering. It's fun, albeit not particularly fast, for experienced drivers. It simply tries to kill inexperienced drivers.

If I remember correctly, (on models without the tonneau cover) the rear spoiler was installed in the beds rear stake pockets and was removable. So if you needed to “use your truck” you could remove and stow the spoiler at the front of the bed in the front stake pockets. Btw, I WISH that I got 9city/12hwy in my truck! 🤷🏻

Yeah I have a 2004 regular cab and it doesn't have a tonneau and you have to line the bolts on for the spoiler and took a while to figure it out lol, have a bed mat in there

FYI, the quad cabs was developed to be a tow vehicle for people that had Vipers. That's why it came with a 4 speed transmission and a tow receiver. None of the regular cab trucks came with a tow receiver.

My 2004 RC has a tow receiver...I mean it’s not rated to tow but you could if you wanted to.
@bryenwalker354 жыл бұрын
@@fitfogey if it's a RC SRT-10, it did not come from the factory with it. Quite a few quys have added them to RC and tow regularly with them actually.

It's very loud and grumbly, stick is very short and stiff, you basically can't stall this thing unless on a hill, get 12.8-13.5 mpg, the wheels are really thick tires, probably fit a 33/35, it a very wide car, feels like a tank, and when lowered (I'm a skinny person) I Barely fit in the front, the srt10 has a power steering leak on the pinion, it's a fun truck and I love it, I wish they didn't stop them but people probably crashed Most of them, the bass has some thump to it than other vehicles 1 gear is crazy and 3rd is my favorite

The old SRT 10 doesn't compare to the new TRX, I kinda hate saying that but it is true. Now lets see a video on the Ram VTS.
