I worked at Jeep Truck Engineering in Ram Vehicle Development during the inception of this truck. We had built a few test mules years before the actual Viper truck was released and had an absolute blast driving them around the metro Detroit area, beating up on unsuspecting pony cars of that era. They were a handful to drive but would lay rubber for as long as you were willing to let them. Non stop shenanigans.

Nicely done, a few points of my own, You bought a performance truck for fuel mileage and or over all reliability, it's a performance vehicle, you buy them for the fun, if not then your a a**hole, if you could afford one of these in the day, these issues should not have entered your mind. I had a close buddy with one in 2004, only issue he had was driveshaft twisting, clutch drop at 5800 from a stop, it would twist of, his response, "Fix it and lets try that again "

@@nateplays9264 I honestly love it as it’s basically a unicorn in the Car world, it’s never depreciated since I’ve gotten it only increased in value. I hate going to a car show with the same car as anyone else, I’ve seen two other ones in my travels in province wide car shows never a nightrunner and majority are four doors. It’s a beast on the highway and I find going from 80km to 160km is my favourite, blasting from a launch is a blast and rowing the gears is fantastic. With the stock shifted the throw is large and it takes a little to get use to banging, some parts are semi rare, factory tires are drying up as Pirelli stopped production, It gets massive double takes as it’s not over the top on looks, I have rat rods, convertibles and crotch rockets but to me it’s the most discreet that I enjoy for myself and never disappoints me when I hop in to go for a rip. Speed is a weird concept being so high up as you don’t feel how fast your actually going (the lower to the ground you are the faster speed is perceived hence go karts feel blisteringly quick) bluntly it moves 5k lbs faster than you’d ever want to lol I’ll never sell it as I know I’ll instantly regret it and never obtain the same thing. It’s very easy to be a hooligan in as a majority have been crashed and written off. No drivers aids to save you. Stereos factory are decent with a 10” port box sub i could ramble for days if there’s anything specific your pondering let me know

But not beyond a little "Showing Off" once in a while. But I have a "curiosity" my Documentation, and online VIN search show it as a 2005... BUT, it is the Mineral Grey, and NOT "Silver"... and it has the dual rigt-side exhaust and molded bumper of the 2006 models..?? I do not have documents on the exact build date. My only guess is that it WAS Silver, and the previous owner changed out the rear bumper, and upgraded the exhaust, then re-painted it into the 2006 color...

@@Jaded-ITS Not trying to anger American Stellantis owners but there is a reason the F comes first in FCA and I'm not a fan of Peugeot or Fiat so to me it feels very off. I still love my older Dodge pickup though.

Again this is an opinion. FCA have already gone very European with the brand. Just one good example is they don’t put a Cummins in the 1500 or the Jeep, they could... instead they put an Italian Diesel that has major issues and is right around the corner from a recall. Also this same engine has had trouble for years in Europe as well. You know straight up that Cummins makes a better engine but they don’t own Cummins. It’s all a money saving tactic and it works two fold. The vehicle only needs to last as long as the warranty and they get rid of a flawed engine quickly. So come on now folks don’t get all angsty at my comments, shit happens. A lot of companies are shells of their former selves and they will never be the same. Don’t defend these companies too hard because above all remember they don’t care about anything but their image and the bottom line.

@@bigmrfnB I’m just saying the family of vehicles dodge is now associated with is a nice group, in fact Alfa Romeo used Hemispherical pistons before Dodge did, and I like seeing an Alfa Romeo And thinking it’s the same vehicle family as my Ram. And Dodge still makes incredibly good shit. Charger, Challenger, Viper, Ram, all great vehicles.

early models had less than par hubs up front, and would overheat and shear off pre production models. and also an early recall on improper tq'd harmonic balancers on early runs, were a few painful recalls. that would wipe the crank snout. RIP.

Thumbs for building this monster back then, even if it was just for a short time. But Dodge/ RAM isnt boring today: They Hellcat- swap everything, which is hard given todays safety, emissions regulations, and an ongoing electrification of vehicles...

I've got a Gen 3 Viper and the parts issue usually falls into one of three categories. 1. Shared part across the Chrysler lineup-usually available and inexpensive. Examples include switches, sensors, etc. 2. Difficult to find Mopar parts but aftermarket substitutes and upgrades are available. Usually pricey. 3. Viper-specific part. Expensive. Often unavailable because Chrysler has a habit of discontinuing parts for low-production vehicles as soon as they can-so you're looking for used or NOS parts at significant markup. That's kind of what you deal with on a rare vehicle. There's not enough of them to make it worthwhile for the aftermarket en masse, and those that do charge a premium because they've got limited numbers that they can sell. The manufacturer doesn't care because it doesn't make sense to make parts for vehicles that are long out of warranty and not numerous enough to generate profit servicing.

It's very loud and grumbly, stick is very short and stiff, you basically can't stall this thing unless on a hill, get 12.8-13.5 mpg, the wheels are really thick tires, probably fit a 33/35, it a very wide car, feels like a tank, and when lowered (I'm a skinny person) I Barely fit in the front, the srt10 has a power steering leak on the pinion, it's a fun truck and I love it, I wish they didn't stop them but people probably crashed Most of them, the bass has some thump to it than other vehicles 1 gear is crazy and 3rd is my favorite

I have a 2005 SRT 10 quad cab with -7200 miles, the bed full of a seemingly endless supply of 100 dollar bills, champagne spraying out of the windshield wiper fluid reservoir, and painted in platinum (not platinum color-ACTUAL PLATINUM). I got the rare super-turbo-dilithium warp core engine (so rare that they only made 0 of them). It gets .0000007002 miles per gallon (and runs best when the gas is poured into the tank one drop at a time using a turkey baster), raises people from the dead anytime I drive by a cemetery, and does my laundry for me (including separating delicates). Only real issue I've had with it is occasionally one of the 100 dollar bills isn't as crispy as I prefer, but that's not as big of a deal to the random people I give them away to as much as it's an annoyance to me...

Not going to abuse it, but I'd drive this thing and haul stuff like a couch, wood, plants, bags of mulch, bags of potting soil, dirty crap to make my yard look nice.

Paxton, roe, and procharger, I think. These engines could only handle 6-8psi of boost before kaboom. You need to forge the engine to make any real power. The 48re could barely handle the stock hp. I've had mine rebuilt 2x.

Currently an owner of a 06 quad cab for 2.5 years now and yes the 4 speed is horrible. but saving up for a swap soon. everything else has just worked. the oil cooling lines/power steering did fail (which was comin in those) and thankfully not too costly to fix. overall I still love it and will probably try to keep it for many more years to come.

I have an '04 silver that I drove daily to nearly 200k miles. I have no good reason to not drive it right now, but I'm currently enjoying a ratty '62 Beetle. I did have the power steering and oil cooler line leaks. In fact, even the replacement cooler lines leaked. And I did do the clutch hydraulics upgrade. The power steering leak was the most painful. The radiator fan is hydraulically driven from the power steering pump. So a low steering fluid levels also meant some scary engine temperatures.
