Thanks for you clear and concise info and video. My 2002 Elantra needs a new starter. Not having done one before, watching your video a few times then looking at my car, taking the intake and air box off as I wait for my starter allows me to reference things to yours. My Elantra is a 5 speed and it has one extra thing necessary to do. That is to pop off a cotter pin holding a transmission cable to the transmission block. This allows one to then see the upper starter bolt. I'm hoping things proceed smoothly and that I can get a socket and extensions on like you did. I hope my bolts break loose easily. According to Hyundai they are torqued to 20-25 lbs/ft. Which is not that tight, 🤞 so I hope these bolts don't fight me too much.😄 Taking the starter out from the bottom and putting new one up from the bottom looks to make sense. Anyways thanks for your clear, well lit video... I'm pretty well mechanically inclined, not like my late father, he could figure and do most anything. But I when doing work the first time gets me to worry about my confidence. Your video helps me hopefully overcome this. 😎👍

@@EpicHelp Well dropping you and anyone else a line on my installation. 2002 Hyundai Elantra 5 speed. Ok it's not a rocket science job. It can be done with care, thought and proper tools. 1: What I thought would be a PIA the top 14 mm mounting bolt was pretty easy. With manuals you have to pop off the clip and move the transmission Cable. Be careful not to lose the cotter pin and when time to you reinstall it so that that straight part goes through the mounting clip receiver. Doing that I used a ratchet with a longer extension and the bolt broke loose easy. They are not torqued on with Steve Austin power. I left it in but loose. 2: I jacked up the car on two jack stands and because I'm anal about things used two jacks as well. Using a trouble light I found the two electric connections. One is just a clip you can pull off. The other is a 12mm nut if your starter is OEM. I thought this nut would be easy, but it was not. It's hard to get a regular 12mm wrench on it as those two metal bars get a bit in the way.... I recommend you use a stubby racheting wrench, 12mm. This will fit and you can use your hand strength to break the nut loose then spin it off by hand. 3: 14mm bottom bolt PIA.... A regular 14mm wrench is hard to fit and get leverage to break bolt loose. I used another Stubby racheting wrench 14mm and was able to get it on the bolt and working both hands up through parts it's tight I was able to with my dominant hand break the bolt loose and the racheting Stubby wrench worked ably. I did not pull this bolt out yet. 4: Went up top and worked the top bolt out using the rachet and extender. There is a black ground cable attached to this bolt, remember to re attach it when you reinstall the bolt. 5: Back under I removed the bottom bolt and the starter came off easy, you just as in the video lift the back up so it clears the metal bars and you fish it through the bottom, easy. 6: Get new starter ready. Take off its 13mm nut and washer. Fish it up to the mounting position, not too hard as it will fall into place to tell you it's in. Take the lower bolt and work it into its mount by sliding it into the starter, I worked both hands, my left to push bolt and my right to hold starter in place. 7: Go back up top and get your top bolt ready by using the extension to fish it into its mount.. again make sure you put that ground cable on at this time. This became a bit of a PIA because to tighten you have to push and the starter wants to move. My right arm I worked behind the intake manifold and held the starter in place as I finger tighten the bolt, then once captured it became easy to rachet it snug. 8: Back under I went and using my stubby racheting wrench I worked the bottom bolt nice and tight. Hyundai recommends 20-25 lbs.ft. but I could not get a torque wrench in so I tighten this bolt as comfortably tight as I could. Double check the wiring, the plug and maybe the 13mm nut to be sure you have it tight enough. 9: Back up top, tighten this bolt and if you have a torque wrench you should be able to torque it to 20-25 lbs.ft. if not tighten it till you feel comfortable with it. 10: If you have a 5 speed put the transmission Cable on its connector. Grab the mounting plate and put it on. Take the cotter pin an push it through the receiver making sure the straight pin goes through the hole. And you are done.. Mount the negative battery cable on battery and go start your car. If she starts fine you know you did a job well done...give yourself a 👏🙌👋 Reattach the air box, air filter and intake plumbing....I decided that since the throttle body was open to start my car, rev it a bit using the cable by the throttle body and spray some throttle body cleaner since I have a can of it. Then I put the rest of the intake plumbing back on. Take your jack stands off and why not just check your oil level at this time, maybe your coolant too. I started my car up and let it run as I reset my dash clock and reset my settings on my car stereo. That's it folks. I got frustrated a bit as I noted above but I took some breaths, talked to God to help me persevere and got it done. I'm not a master mechanic. I have good aptitude for things, lots of good tools from my late father who was a machine fitter by trade and could do almost anything mechanical... I miss him and wish he was here to see my success on this job😢 But it can be done if you just keep your cool and persevere. Having done it once I hope to not have to do this for many years to come, but it will be easier next time as you gain knowledge. Peace out 👍

Here is a tip for those with 5 speed manuals. That little cotter pin holding the transmission Cable to its mount above the top starter bolt. If you aren't careful pulling it out it could pop off and then you have to go hunting for it. If I had to do it again I am thinking if maybe taking a small coffee cup cutting it to fit around this clip/mount so that once you pop it off, using a flat blade screwdriver, that this cup cut to fit around this cable mount that it could catch the cotter pin and keep it from possibly popping off.... Not sure if this idea would work, but my mind was drawing it out, so I toss it out here as a possible idea to try.🤔

Do a search for "hyundai elantra starter mounting bolt" along with the year. You should find these bolts for 2 or 3 dollars online.
