The intro section of this video should be mentioning at the end of each sentence "AT LEAST IN THE US" - this model is not some "returnal" of Mercedes to diesel passenger cars, nor has it anything to do with a boat engine, nor did it come out in 2006 - Mercedes has been selling E, C and most other classes (even S) with diesel engines for decades, and this model (the W211) came out in 2003, in 2006 it had a face (or engine)-lift where specifically the 320 guise transitioned from I6 to V6... I've watched three minutes of the video, the guy talks like he was a pro, but has very assuredly said at least 3 factual bullshits - or if not BS, than at least wrong for everywhere else, MAYBE except US (I've no knowledge about Merc model availabilities and yearly ranges in US) - as all carmakers, Merc DESIGNS cars primarily for their own market, in this case - Germany and by extension EU.

you don't have any idea about mechanics I'm assuming? Just do yourself a favor and don't start trying to talk about the engineering or mechanical properties of that engine until you've studied up. Its sounds really dumb you trying to talk about something you don't know. The reason it doesn't smoke and make a bunch of noise is because the first, it has a conservative fuel map in the tuning. Diesel engines smoke because you rich up the fuel mixture so much that it cannot burn all the fuel being provided. Secondly, the quietness comes from good lubrication, perhaps a thicker valve cover to block some of the valve/injector noise and lastly a well designed exhaust system. Now that you've been educated a little bit, next time just stick to explaining what you do know, and research what you don't.
