2006 PRS McCarty

Using an appraisal letter to negotiate on a 2006 (or a 1996) McCarty? It’s not a ‘57 strat or ‘60 Les Paul . Just go to Reverb or eBay and check past McCarty sales. They built thousands and there are always many recent transactions to show the current market value.

I would think older would be more expensive? Older PRS guitars are so sought after. How is it for tight metal?

most people want either the 1980s models, or models from 2004+. If it was a 2005 however , it would have been an anniversary model and actually would be worth more.

@@seanbrooks2583 Thanks, I didn't realize there were McCarties from the 80s. I had a 2003 that was great. I had a 2005 solid mahogany McCarty that I didn't like. I've since moved to all singlecut models. I did have a 2006 Custom 22 but ended up preferring my 1994 CE22 over the Cu22, so I sold it along with both McCarties.

Why is a 2006 guitar worth more than a 96? Makes no sense, it should actually be opposite

Dani West Good question, and it’s all in context. My 2006 is appraised for what it is, as would a 96 be appraised for what it is. If you’re referencing my previous video, that was at a time when the story of this guitar wasn’t uncovered yet during an appraisal. It’s a 2006 and appraised for what it is.

Because over time, the guitar is worth what it is worth. The appraisal for this guitar came back as what it is, which is more than I initially paid for it, regardless of what year it is. As a 2006, in this condition, it is what it is and has its value. :) By that same standard, a 1996, in the same condition would probably fetch more than what this 2006 has been appraised at. At the end of the day, it all up to the market and what you or the next person is willing to pay for something. :)

If you had a 1996 and a 2006 in both identical conditions, I do believe that the 96 would actually fetch a few more dollars for varying reasons, such as being closer to the 'first year' run, the sheer number of units produced, and coil tap being introduced in Feb of 1996. By the time 2006 rolled around, there were certainly more on the scene, who knows if wood sources were the same as in 96, etc. PRS are decently consistent, but 'why one is worth more than the other' is a dangerous rabbit hole to go down, when ultimately, it's value is in the the eye of the beholder. Guitars/music is so subjective. Somebody might take an all original $35,000 1956 Strat and hate how it plays, simply because they don't like the neck profile or fretboard radius. In a case like that, clearly the person wouldn't pay that much for that guitar, despite it's reputation. All subjective.
