I know this is old now bud, don't think I saw it originally for some reason. I just wanted to say, it's the battery that does not like the cold, not the engine itself, if you turn on the ignition and put full beam and hazards on while you get yourself ready it will warm the battery, when ready turn the high beam and hazards off and it should start a little easier, you get this issue more with Lithium batteries too.

Thermowax is likely the problem with cold starts, The FZ1 uses this type of system. Its a cylinder on the throttlebodys with wax inside that when the wax is cold it goes hard and forces some small valves in the bodys shut to choke it, when the bikes warms up the wax melts and the valves open again
@Theillestrator10506 жыл бұрын
I looked into that under your advice and others seem to have that issue too, is there a fix you know that works?

That will definitely be my first resort, although people report the same success by just using a piece of milk carton for full on free too
@audiogarden216 жыл бұрын
Yeah but think about it. Any time you cut up a material you're going to leave a jagged edge, which is not something you want rubbing against your seals. It might work in the interim but long term who knows what kind of damage it's doing to the seal. Saving 8-9 bucks now isn't really worth the potential hundreds of dollars to replace seals later.

hey man, does that two bros pipe have the stock 02 sensor? (if it doesn't have the 02 sensor or any o2 sensor it won't be running the closed loop system which could make it harder in the cold) Also do you mean the bike won't idle, or it just simply won't crank over until you hold the throttle a little?
@Theillestrator10506 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have the o2 sensor in the tail end of pipe, but I'm not too sure if it's somewhere on the collector pipe or not. Someone mentioned the thermowax system hardening in the comments so I looked into it and it seems other owners have had this issue with that part as well. On some cold days, the bike can be cranked over and it will fire at first but it wont actually idle until the throttle is opened. Then I have to hold the throttle open just enough to make the bike idle at normal speed until the temperature gets to about 115 degrees. after the bike warms up completely it idles like normal.
@KawiJohnny6 жыл бұрын
- The illestrator - Yeah could be thermowax but could be a secondary sensor as well (02 sensor) That thermowax just melts and tells/allows usually a valve to open basically, basically acting the opposite as like an enrichener or choke on a carburetor, opening up to pull more air into the system. If its staying closed and not melting right away that could be your problem. With a bit of research people say its directly connected to the idle air linkage assembly as well so it seems to makes sense. I would also suggest maybe looking around for that 02 sensor if youre not sure you have one. Its better to have one, then to not for the longevity of the engine. Also, i prob sound like a broken record but any tuning related questions or concerns you have lmk! Would love to tune that thing if you ever needed/wanted. Lmk if you fix the problem and stay warm up there lol.

I guess one upside of going with a single headlight, you get more wattage for other stuff. The downside? Lack of wind block and half as good visibility after dark. The headlights were GREAT on the FZ1 (I had a 2011). You just might spend more money on the Arrow head + "OUHWOLHNSEIOUHSEDFN" slip-on than you would a Yoshi R77 full system which was actually developed by Ivan's Performance Products specifications (he's on the East coast, has a superb tune for the ECU and that system... 150 whp).
