I'll always take a slower manual transmission car over a faster auto or auto style everyday of the week! Unless you're on a track, driving is about engagement, not just going fast. in my 30 years of driving, I've never found any auto/PDK/DSG?WTF?(lol) that engages a driver like a car where you row your own! Hell my daily is manual Honda Fit Sport, and being such a low power car, half the fun is ringing it out on your own. A slush box in a low horsepower car is just brutal!

Just to clear up a couple of things.... .1 =480hp, .2 =500hp, .2 S PDK =530 GT2 is actually the last Mezgar turbo ... today about $450K Differences between .1 and .2... .1 Mezgar engine.. has coolant pipe issues.. easily modded for high HP, some say it sounds better than the DFI, drives more like an AWD drive car. .2 DFI engine which is the starting point for current engines and bullet proof with no known issues, updated interior with touch screen PCM that still looks fresh (black plastic dash fascia vs gray, updated switch gear but the seats and rest are basically the same), different and less intrusive AWD system that returns the car feeling more rear wheel biased and better handling, revised rear suspension again for handling, different tail lights with the addition of LED. In today’s market, the .1 manual is a great value whereas a .2 car would be $20K+++and climbing more if you can find one for sale... it will be the collector as only 480 (give or take) were made 2010-13 A 2009 is considered a .2 car as it gets the lighting and interior upgrade with the carryover Mezgar engine ( I can’t confirm that it got the updated suspension and AWD but I doubt it.)... it would be a nice collector as it has nice bits from both versions...a straight .1 manual turbo is a car that you won’t lose money on...buy it drive it and enjoy it... or consider a .2 Turbo S PDK ... they are really really fast and have a much more comprehensive list of options as standard ... lastly, the .1 tiptronic turbo is the absolute bargain. Nobody is paying attention to these cars... it’s a Mercedes tranny and it works really well with the Turbo motor. I hope this is helpful... I have a 2010 TT MT cabriolet that I’ve put black electrical tape over the odometer because I can’t bare to watch the mileage go up as I love driving it so much! It truly is a car that you would daily drive... (but if you live in the city... get the PDK)... stay well

The 997.2 turbo has a completely different engine compared to 997.1. Also it has other improvements in suspension etc The 997.2 manual is the one to have and really rare car. The best to be collectable

2009 is a great year and definitly a bit more rare. 2009 was deep into the recession in the US and I believe only 226(ish) 6-spd coupes were made for the market.

I own a 997.1 tiptronic. Before buying i tried both manual and tt. Im usually a manual guy and on the net they say go for the manual, but im glad i drove the tt too... I never would expect i liked the tt more! I think for this kind of of car with this powerband, unless you use it on the track or mountain roads daily, the tt is the best choise. Also mine is tuned stage 1, its a simple and save tune to do and it adds 50 bhp and 100 nm. The clutch of the manual is not strong enough for even stage one and it will slip. Its not just the 0.2 seconds faster standard, compared to the manuel, but after this simple tune its arrount 1 second faster and this means all the world, than its soo much faster and a greater joy to drive than the manual!! Dont believe the hype, if your intrested in one of these i strongly suggest you drive both! Either way you cant go wrong, the last Mezger engine will be a collectable car, manual or tt!
@jeanpaulceulemans9973
@jeanpaulceulemans9973 3 жыл бұрын
the manual is lighter, more robust and way easier & cheaper to service and with a better clutch it can handle all the torque you can reasonably throw at it Tip indeed accelerates significantly faster because it keeps the turbos whizzing You'd need a syvecs ECU with open throttle shifting to challenge the tip
@mak23997
@mak23997 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I have a 997.1 tip as well and people crap on it all the time. But those people have never driven it. It's a good transmission and you can go much quicker (actually 0.3 sec 0-60 per the owner manual) than the manual and if you're interested in modding it for more power it can hold way more than the manual. I miss rowing gears sometimes but I also like that my car is still lightning fast and I don't have to worry about shifting gears or mis-shifts and over-revs on the engine. To each his own I suppose. But I agree, the looks, speed and timeless design will make it a classic. I don't like the body style of the new ones except for the GT variants.

This is the pinnacle Porsche in my eyes. It was another perfectly well thought out review. A few years back, I drove a friend’s (quite affordable) 996 turbo. I wanted one so much. I explained and justified it with my wife. Instead we bought new curtains. I think I keep my ‘87 Carrera for spite. Thanks for the video.

Have this color combo in a 2008 manual cabriolet. Topless version just makes it that much sweeter on a warm sunny day 😎 Great video reviews on the 997 with great background info. I almost traded it in 2 yrs ago. Thank God I kept it. Its so rare to see one for sale! Freaked out the first time I saw the new 997 when It came out years ago and vowed I would one day own one. The best overall 911 shape in their history. Had my ECU tweaked last year and its well over 500hp now. Crazy fun!

@mak23997
@mak23997 3 жыл бұрын
@@Motormouth... That's not true. I have a 997.1. They have many issues, though not as bad as the IMS in the 996. The coolant epoxy failure, spun camshafts which will eventually happen to both banks, leaky gaskets for the tip transmission, master cylinder/slave issues for the manual, deployable rear wing failures. I have had most of these in my 14 years of ownership. At the end of the day it's still a porsche and not a honda. It will break down and you need to remember you're buying what was once a $140K top end German sports car and will pay accordingly for service and repair.

I have a 997.1 Tip. People knock it but I love it. Smooth, fast and at a light I can still hang with most of todays super fast cars because of the quick accelerations and brake torquing which of course you can't do in a manual. I miss the manual sometimes but that rush of just dropping the accelerator and holding on for life can't be beat. And the other commenter is right, 997.1 was the last of the Metzger race derived engines. 997.2 was DFI, computer derived engine.
