The a/c on my car stopped working (could turn it on, but no air came out of the vents). This is a step by step on how to replace a blower motor on a 2007 328i. Process should be similar in any e9x (e90, e91, e92, etc) vehicle. Process should take no more than 15 mins.

This video just saved me a ton. The dealer wanted $450. I found the blower online for $55, watched this video and viola! 09 e92 back in business. Thanks to good people like this that take the time and effort to post these for the better good of the bmw community.

Excellent reference and it was helpful in my preparations. However, as Fitz said below, you DO NOT need to take the glove box, cup holders and ducting out to change the blower motor. I just completed the swap in 20 min by removing ONLY the lower trim panel. You need something to pull down on the motor release tab. I used one of those 'right angle' screwdrivers. Don't use your finger- it can pinch! Be patient and wiggle the old blower out. It WILL clear the ducting. Pay attention to the position it came out and the new one will go back the same way. Thanks for posting the video!

I have a 2008 BMW 328i and the blower motor went out 2 weeks ago, dealership quoted me 2000.00 to change claiming it would take 10 hours of labor, Well.... I didn't feel that was so and decided to reach out to KZbin as I do with almost any issues and you were on point. It took me 1.5 hrs but it's fixed thanks to your video and I appreciate once again the time you took to post, thank you again!

Also to note if this doesn't fix the issue and take a look at the connections around the back of the heater controls, make sure it's connected properly, as if the black ones in the lights will still turn on but if the white connector isn't in fully the vents under and in the dash are blocked off disabling any air though the dash, however you will have air in the rear, I had this issue and took me forever to figure it out. Thanks for posting this best instructional video on this cheers

Excellent instructions! A few days back my car' blower motor began making loud noise. I took it out in 10 minutes. Then removed a small plastic cover at the bottom which gave me access to the lower bearing. Using a straw, I lubricated both bearing and placed everything back in reverse order in 15 minutes. It works like new. Thank you so much!

Did this repair yesterday, using your video. Took me about 2 hrs total, had a go with the air tubes, finally got-em. Replaced blower and regulator. Cost me $243 for everything. Great video, thanks for guide. Everything working great, my back's a little sore though!

This video was really great! Turns out that there was no problem with the motor, and it was just a stick caught in the blades, preventing rotation. Sweet! The trickiest part was getting that A/C air routing tube back in...

It could be the Blower Fan Regulator - the white device he took off the old fan and put on new fan housing. Try replacing the regulator first. However, i would replace both just to get rid of any other problems for later.

All I can say is thanks!!! Beautifully done, Had no problems getting to the fan. In my case the fan is going bad but I gave it a spin and it started working again. There was a damp spot on the inner sound proofing so I am going to assume there is a water issue. I will look into the microfilter as well. Will have a motor on order ASAP and will have it swapped out in no time! Thanks again guys!!!

Extremely helpful. Thank you!Once I got the blower out, the rotor seemed very stiff so I thought I would try a small burst of WD40 first. Low and behold, when I made a temp reconnection, the fan ran like a dream. Put all back in place and system working perfectly. I ignored the squeaking bearing that had been going on for weeks - hence it became too stiff for the motor to start the fan moving. If yours starts to squeak, try a little lube before you assume the (expensive) motor is blown! Fiddly job getting that ducting back in place but just take your time

Great Video and very accurate - cheers mate - managed to service and lubricate the motor bearings and its working fine now (You saved me over £200!) so thanks for that !- may only be a temp fix but then again may last a few years so worth servicing the motor (It may not be burnt out)- and if it does go again I'm only into £80 for a new replacement- well worth tackling for the home mechanic- Thanks again ! :-)

Well, the truth is: there's absolutely no need to remove the glove box and there's absolutely no need to remove the air duct. I don't know why there are so many guides on the Net that suggest removing the ducts (and to make it easier also suggest removing the glove box). None of this is necessary. All you need to do is remove the plastic foot panel with the light. And then just disconnect, unlatch, twist and carefully maneuver out the blower motor. It's like replacing a light bulb. The air ducts don't really prevent you from doing this. The whole procedure takes about 10 minutes. Also, what "2 latches" are you talking about? The motor housing has two protrusions sticking out of it: one is a latch, another is a screw hole. The screw hole is typically unused (by BMW itself). The latch is easily undoable, after which the motor twists out clockwise. I.e. there only one latch.

Great video, thanks for posting. A couple of differences I noticed with 335i coupe, I can remove fan with a bit of wiggling just by removing lower panel and unclipping lower clip of air tube and pulling it down a bit, no need to remove entire glove box. Also my lower panel had 3 wires attached, bulb for footwell light, a temp sensor and bluetooth module so 3 wires to unclip before removing lower panel, all pretty straightforward though. My actual problem was a rattle at speed, pretty sure it wasn't the fan itself, which I took out and gave a little oil to the lower spindle anyway, but the temp sensor mounted to the lower panel was rattling in it's housing. A little insulation tape to pack the gap between temp sensor and housing and I have a tight fit again with no rattle.

Good job Leo for the video. But you know that you can replace the blower motor without having to take apart the dash or the glove box.. I did it on my 07 328xi. Get under there and un-clip the motor, twist it and just shimmy it out (it comes out with gravity's help). Transfer the resister to the new blower, make connections, then get back under there and shimmy it and twist it back in to lock. You may have to carefully wiggle it in to get by the wiring and plastic vent and stuff. But it's quite doable and not that difficult. It took me 20 minutes to install a new motor and believe me I'm no mechanic.

Ok I had my 2007 BMW 328xi window replaced by a local shop. When I got the car back and turned on AC there was a noise like a baseball card. Could the idiots at the shop somehow dropped debris from the window and seal into the blower motor? I am ready to go back to the shop screaming but I am not sure if this could happen. When I looked around the car interior there were pieces of the seal.
@LeoPerez23
@LeoPerez23 7 жыл бұрын
Possible, yes, but doubtful. Check to see if maybe some leaves fell in (pop the hood and see if there's anything there). If you want to take apart and just spray some WD40, that may also get the job done. The noise that made me change the motor was more of a chirping noise than a baseball card.
@PoppysGuitar

ok took it back to the shop that replaced window and vented. Guess what? They found "tape" debris lodged in the fan blades. Oh yeah, the shop owner didn't do the replacement his 19 year old son did. Claimed I must have done work on it and left tape in there. I said "NO! not me" that's why I brought it to professionals in the first place. Leo if you have an incompetent kid work on your car anything is possible. but thanks.

The only way would be to take out the blower motor and test it with a battery. You can remove the resistor and hook up the blower motor to a battery and see if it spins. If it spins, then it's probably the resistor. If it doesn't, then it's probably the blower motor. Hope that helps

Remove the panel at the bottom where the foot light is at. 2 T20 screws hold it. Then you have access to the blower motor. Unplug the power cable, lift up the notch and rotate clockwise. It literally takes 4 minutes to take out. There is literally no need for all these unnecessary steps. Like literally no need at all. I seriously doubt that there is a difference between the non LCI and LCI model like mine to matter. Look up Vehicular DIY, it’s literally a 5 minute job to take out the blower motor and 5 minutes to put it back on and be done with it. You don’t even need to take out any vents or anything. Only thing you remove is the bottom panel where the passengers feet are resting that has a light and a 12v outlet if yours is equipped with it. Unplug them after taking off the 2 T20 screws and you have access to the blower motor. Unplug the power connector of the motor, lift up the notch that’s close to the firewall side, and rotate clockwise. After all that the motor is out. So many unnecessary steps in this video it’s unreal.

You know y’all can access the blower motor from underneath the glove compartment.. no need to take the cup holders and dash out…

There is NO NEED to remove the cup holders or the glove box. ONLY the lower cover needs to come off, and then one screw releases it. You guys went around your elbow to get to your ass... Other than that, good vid.

Could you not simply remove the bottom panel and work the blower out. You work blind but with cameras you can see a lot
