2007 BMW 328i Trunk won't open

The trunk of my 2007 BMW 328i got stuck. Couldn't open and key did not work. Had to put my knee on the bumper and hands in between the bumper and trunk to try to pry it open. It finally popped after a lot of effort.

This video was all what I needed. Coming up with a number of hypotheses and showing how to test them is a great approach. In my case it worked out with just switching the valet lock located in the gloves compartment. The symptoms I noticed in this case were that the trunk would not even make the noise of attempting to unlock / unlocking when using the remote or when pressing the button on the trunk itself. It seems that when the valet lock is activated the remote and the button in the trunk are electronically deactivated. It would open perfectly fine by inserting and rotating the card key in the trunk lock. Once I switched the valet key it all went to work normal right away. I would have never thought of it by myself. You saved me lots of time, hassle and money. Thanks!

I had same problem. There is a slide trunk lock button in the glove box and another grooved switch on the center console next to the cup holder. One of these reset the trunk latch so it opened. Good luck

Check the wires for the trunk I have the same problem on my e60 after that I check it and find out that are cut wires do to when you open the trunk it pull hard as they open

It worked, It opened with a little pressure on the trunk. Tried to open it automatically again by using the button on the key and it worked. Problem solved.

I faced this problem just yesterday, I suspect I was not lock the trunk carefully and start driving, then the panel show the warning signal. So I stopped the car and going to open the trunk wanna to close it again, however it was fail! Then I stop the car and use all electronic method + using the key to open, all doesn't work. Finally I use another method, put my how body on top of the trunk and try to lock it more tight, then I was able to unlock by using the electronic lock (The one on the trunk, not the driver seat or key button). Here is the Traditional Chinese version and hope others people can solve this problem. 出現的問題： 1). 懷疑車尾箱未確實關好後開車 2). 車錶板會出燈及警告提你車尾箱未關好 3). 嘗試用三個電子方法開車尾箱都不成功，分別是司機位的開關，車尾箱後的開關及車匙的車尾箱開關制 4). 用車匙解鎖都不成功，於是在出燈及警告下都繼續駕車回家去 5). 在網上尋找不同方法都解決不到，其中有段片完全是我遇到的問題 解決方法： 1). 先著車 2). 瘋狂在車尾上壓下去，目的是希望可以令車尾箱鎖實，然後再解鎖 3). 瘋狂車震之後，用電子鎖解開，因為當時情況混亂，我又有用車匙開，不記得是哪樣成功，但一定不是司機位的開關制，亦不是車匙的車尾箱開關制

I have the same problem with my 528i BMW 2009. I don't have any buttons inside glove department or on the right arm rest compartment. I tried using the key as well on the outside of the trunk. I'm going to try the method of turning the key to left and apply pressure on the trunk to see if opens. Any suggestions?

Use your keys and turn to vertically position than release. reinserting again, than turn to the your left hold for 3second. As you holding for 3sec, give little more pressure it will automatically open

Press down firmly with your elbow on the trunk, turn the key to open. Try it! Works for me. By pressing firmly, the latch can be released.

They charged $99 diagnostic fee. After an hour, they told me I needed to replace all the lock cables. Quoted me almost $1,000. I asked them if they got the trunk open, and they said they did. It ended up being the lock actuator ($80 part), which I replaced myself (took about 20 mins). The lock actuator was cracked (seems to happen often) and if you just replace it, you're all set. The dealer said they had to take out the back seats and crawl through to open through the emergency hatch. Hope that helps

It ended up getting stuck again for me and gave up after many, MANY attempts to open it again. Had to take it to the dealer. They removed the seats and opened it from the inside (mine does not have the winter package). It turned out to be the lock actuator. Super easy to change (less than 5 minutes). Hope that helps. I pulled down the center console in the back, reached my arm through and released the seats. Then pulled the emergency cable to release the trunk. Didn't take $99 to figure out how to open the trunk nor did I have to jump up and down on the bumper.

I only paid $99 at the dealer for their diagnostic fee, as they were able to open the trunk and I told them that's all I needed. I then took the car and changed the lock actuator (around $60) and voila, everything works again. The stealership wanted to charge me over $1000 for new cables, etc. Don't let them. If they can just get the trunk open, I bet you'll be able to see the lock actuator cracked. It's a $60 part.

Take a look at the lock actuator. If it's cracked, it will get stuck again.
