2007 Jeep Wrangler JK Gets an Upgraded Aluminum Throttle Body. Lightening Bolt Symbol Fix.

The plastic throttle body was cracked on our Jeep Wrangler JK so I bought an Aluminum throttle body to replace it with. In this video, I will show you how easy it is to replace the throttle body on your Jeep 3.8L engine and do a relearn using a scan tool.

On our Nitro.. We were getting the lightening bolt symbol randomly, and it would actually put it into limp mode and keep it under like 3k or 4k RPM. But if I cycled the key it would go away. Turns out that the water pump was just bad and it was sensing overheating I guess and going into limp mode... Even though the temp gauge still looked fine on the dash. I put in a new water pump and fixed the problem completely. So be aware, that lightening bolt can also come on if it's in limp mode, even if there are no throttle body issues or accel pedal issues. It had a very vague code saying "coolant system performance". I just thought it was the throttle body again, since I had to replace it before with broken gears and it had a similar symptom. then I thought it could be the accel pedal- but, I got thrown on a wild goose chase about the accelerator pedal. There are two sensors built into it and on Chryslers-- APP2 data pid in the scan tool will have a random drop in the data and look like it is dropping out. But I found out that it's actually a built in test that it does. It's very consistent if you check it with a scope, but the scantool is too slow and doesn't catch it a lot of times and so it looks like a random signal drop. I almost bought a computer over this... and an ECM repair guy I talked to said that he wouldn't be able to fix it... So he didn't even know that this is part of it's operation.. Anyway, just some thoughts on the lighting bolt and the rabbit hole it took me on. :)

The torque spec on those throttle body mounting bolts is only 5.5 ft/lbs. I would not have used the power tool.

Which is why I didn't use a power tool to tighten it up. The impact was used to run the bolts up and save my wrist then I tightened them by hand as you should have seen. Power tools are like my right hand, I have used them almost daily for 40 years so I have a good feel for how to use them. People with little experience probably shouldn't use them.
