The reason the whole oil filter cap comes off when you try to remove the drainbolt from it is because the torque specs weren't followed at a previous oil change. The drainbolt is only supposed to be about half as tight as the oil filter cap. Because you use the oil filter cap drainplug to tighten the oil filter cap, that's exactly what's causing the problem. Oil filter cap = 18 ft.lbs. Oil filter cap drainbolt = 10 ft.lbs. A lot of mechanics never remove the drainbolt and that's fine if you prefer to do it that way. If you do then there is no reason to take off the drainbolt just to replace the smaller o-ring. I would change the oil every 5,000 miles. If you're driving 90% or more highway miles then maybe 8,000 to 10,000 miles would be okay. And the oil filter cap is only part of the housing. The base part is what the oil filter cap screws into. Thanks! This was also a 10K oil change and the oil didn't look very black so I'm expecting similar results. I'll post an update in another 10K miles. BTW, the LS600HL is sweet!!!

mine called for 9.5qt but it was so high on the dipstick, wound up taking 4.5 to 5qt out for it to register at the highest point. my dipstick is in the back not the front of my 09

bro thats a high milage LS. I am glad to see this car runs! I just bought mine 2010 LS460 with 113k miles on it. What would you recomend to pay attention on to make my car able to run same milage as yours? Thank you. By the way I have lots of lights on the dash related to ABS. The guy said I need ABS actuator. Might be you know what to do. As I understand it is a common problem for these cars

Just sold it this spring to my friend’s parents with 284k miles on it. What I recommend: Fix it when it breaks, and do preventative maintenance like changing out the fluids as recommended by Toyota. The ABS module is a common failure on these. It needs to be replaced.

I liked WIX and Napa Gold in the description (they are the same), also you can never go wrong with an OEM Toyota filter. I don’t know that you’d have any issues with any filter with 5k mile changes though.

I have a 2009 ls460 with 200k mileage. The transmission fluid was never changed. Is it ok to drain and fill the transmission fluid?

Are you experiencing any transmission issues? If not you should be fine. If it were mine I would definitely start serving it at the recommended intervals.

As long as there isn’t any problems beforehand you’ll be fine, I just changed my 06 gs trans fluid and did a drain and fill at 260k for probably the first time in a long time if ever

i changed my oil, and i didn’t listen. tightened the filter housing so tight that i’m not leaking, i’m draining oil. i should’ve listened to you 🤦

Very little. About 1oz every 1,000 miles. I never need to add oil between oil changes. I highly recommend using 0W20 full synthetic oil. That is the best thing to reduce oil consumption.
