Sir, i just bought a 2nd hand mazda3 2007, and i am experiencing its coolant always going down to minimum level to almost empty the reserve tank, what is basic part of cooling system should i check first? Hope you'll notice my concern..ty!

Check for leaks use a pressure pump tools u can buy it from amazon.if theres no leaks then check ur engine oil u might have a bad headgasket so coolant is fixing into ur oil..

My son's 2008 GT hatchback started overheating at 115,000km. The morons at the shop I once trusted said that it wasn't really overheating and it was just the coolant sensor. They said it was safe to drive. A few days later it was overheating again and it just quit while he was driving. Ended up being the head gasket which then warped the head, so needed an entire engine swap. I keep hearing how reliable Mazdas are, but there is no way a properly engineered car should need a head gasket with such low kms. It's now at 155,000kms shifting rather hard between gears (automatic) so I suspect the transmission will be next. This combined with the frozen ignition relays and faulty stater wire (both TSBs) that caused us a lot of hassle for almost a year, Mazdas so far are junk in my experience.

I spoke to the local dealer service department here and they told me that they "don't change the coolant unless it's leaking", which I found astonishing. That's despite the owners handbook saying that the coolant should be changed periodically (can't recall the interval). Very old coolant will likely have higher conductivity and will promote corrosion. It may also affect the life of the water pump.

@DiggerDog1962 Well, I'm 51 and have never changed coolant in 35 years of owning vehicles and I've never had an issue. My 99 Sierra 2500 has 309,000kms on it now. My son's Mazda that I mentioned recently had to have the thermostat replaced at 176,000km. The water pump is still good. Having said all that, I would never trust anything a dealer says, period. Ditto for most shops now. They're gouging everyone as they are so busy now that people are keeping their cars to avoid paying stupid prices for newer ones.

Bro I don't know where you went to mechanical school at but a set of jack stands at walmart barely costs 60 dollars, don't be that guy bro, if it could happen it will happen, and blocks of wood isn't going to stop a few thousand pounds slamming on you, hydraulic Jack's aren't meant to hold the car up, they're meant to just lift the car momentarily

i rather trust my 6x6 wood homemade jack stand its more stable its wider its balance rather than a skinny jackstand that will tip off if i push the car u know what i mean but thanks for ur concern but trust me this is more safer
