Jonny - Would it be worth it to remove the fluid out of the overfill tank as well? (and replace it of course). The more bad fluid out, the better -- yes?

Thanks for the video. Since I don't live in a cold climate, I have never used antifreeze. I have never had any kind of problems running my vehicles like this. Now of course if I lived in a cold climate I would use antifreeze. That's why they call it antifreeze!😊
@JonnyDIY12 күн бұрын
@@bentrider You're welcome 👍 Nice, yes running distilled water straight is fine during warm months or like you in warm climate. Water does not offer some of the benefits of coolant though like anti corrosion as well as water can evaporate easier
@bentrider12 күн бұрын
@@JonnyDIY thanks for the reply. As to your points. Corrosion does not occur any more with plain water than it does with antifreeze. I have proven that to myself over the years. The water actually looks cleaner after two or three years than my former antifreeze did. Think about it. In order for corrosion (which is rust), to occur you need to be adding oxygen. If there is no oxygen being added, then the only oxygen would be in the water and that will only do so much. Water should not evaporate that much. If you have a tight system, the only place it might escape would be in your coolant reservoir. I have never noticed loss of water due to evaporation. One benefit of running a water only system is that you do not have to deal with hazardous chemicals. You also do not have to pay for these hazardous chemicals.😀

@@bentrider awesome yeah I guess as long as the water comes out clean, and the car does fine on it, no need to hassle with coolant 👍

I have a Honda City 2021 model (Asian spec.... In South Africa its a Ballade) anyways, i notice these radiator caps are really crap. or they seem crap. They dont have a good tight fit or they just dont see to have much of a press down when u open them, i wonder if they even seal well? My car has only dont 21000 kilometers but the climate here is a killer, extremely hot... humid weather. How will i know when to change my cap.... besides checking the rubber for strange cracks or warps....

I have a 1999 Honda accord Lx. As soon as I start it up the temperature gauge goes from cold to hot within a minute. It is high but won’t overheat. I have changed the thermostat, coolant sensor, temperature sensor, drain and filled coolant but haven’t changed the thermostat temperature sender yet I have checked the water pump no drip from the bottom and the head gasket seems fine as I was driving for 30 minutes but car won’t overheat both radiator fan and AC fan turns on. Would you be able to shed some light on this issue
@JonnyDIY16 күн бұрын
@@TonyP0425 definitely sounds like the sender to the gauge or gauge itself since it's saying its overheating within a minute. I would start with the sender to the gauge then the gauge itself if that doesn't fix 👍

Always drain when engine is cold. Usually in the morning because it takes a min
@JonnyDIY18 күн бұрын
@@Snceday1 Yes cold or warm not hot because risk of burns. You can drain when warm you just want to make sure pressure has died down so when you remove cap coolant doesn't explode and spray all over. Towel over cap works well 👍

Bro, what to do if you have a heater core bypass?
@JonnyDIY3 ай бұрын
Same process just wont be able to run heat. So just run car to circulate and get any potential air pockets out. Can jack radiator end up or park on incline to help make bubbles come out faster too 👍
@CollosalTrollge3 ай бұрын
Yes i had this in South Africa, less worrying about wet carpets in the car and fixing a heater matrix, so my mechanic just did a bypass.

Hi jonny my 2002 mitsubishi galant is overheating really bad and making super loud hissing noise i looked at radiator and no fluid in it at all so i topped it off and now noticed behind firewall area and engine its leaking coolant maybe hoses are bad any suggestions cause the radiator and its hoses are fine nothing infront only in the back area its leaking
@JonnyDIY10 ай бұрын
Try and pinpoint where its leaking from. A hose or line back there. Worst case scenario is it's leaking from headgasket. You can do a pressure test on cooling system to help find leak. In the mean time keep topped off with at least water and keep eye on temperature gauge until you can find leak. If you check on cold engine and first start up you can sometimes find leak easier
@jasonnasiry10 ай бұрын
Awesome thank u Jonny sir. As long as I keep it filled with water and gauge doesn't go to high on hott I'm fine with driving it and it wouldn't ruin or completely destroy the engine ..it has not smoked as of yet just hissing really loud and air blowing loud when hott or pressured. Definitely a leak after I drove the car on full hott for about 20 min I know that was stupid of me
@JonnyDIY10 ай бұрын
@@jasonnasiry yes should be fine short term. If started steaming and hissing making noise again, best to figure out problem soon as you can. If headgasket, it won't matter (just dont want to overheat and warp engine head), but hopefully it's something much simpler 🙏👍
