Gotta say definitely the best true diagnostic channel on KZbin , you my friend do a very thoughtful and well researched circuitry flow path. unlike some who see the first code and start changing things and swapping parts without the proper leg work and diagnostic procedures. A huge fan of your workflow and your knowledge of the scope, wave forms, circuit diagrams, and the things some mechanics shy away from at times. Love the channel!! Have learned from it and used it in my own work! Thanks

Excellent work. That's what a mechanic who knows his stuff & is not lazy to do real work looks like. I have the same 2.5l Jetta and have a p2237 code for the upstream sensor & I had already replaced the sensor & checked near wires, but code came back. I took it to various so called electrical shops and all they could do was scan the codes which I already did with my cheap scanner. Another guy hooked up his expensive scanner but didn't want to do any work just told me it could be the wires between ecu & o2 sensor hidden inside, or a bad ecu, and that it'd cost a lot of money. Thanks for nothing, I actually needed someone to diagnose the circuit and wires, not tell me to go to the dealer. This video is great that I now know where to check the hidden wires for damage before I go for ecu diagnostic or replacement. Thank you.

Thank you thank you thank you for such a detailed video. I am chasing after this code on one of my cars and I believe you set me down the right path along with showing me exactly what to expect and what is normal at key test points in the system. I have all the factory VW documentation and stuff like this to supplement it goes such a long way. Keep up the good work!

Just goes to show you Tom that whoever replaced the O2 sensor never did any diagnostics and never did a follow-up on the repair. Great work and I was a little skirmish when you started sticking your hand in that nest :)

Wow, I don’t even have this issue but I am fascinated by how easy you made that look. Kind of gives me some confidence in myself that with proper equipment and a little patience sneaky issues likes this can be resolved. Thanks man. My only problem is, I can’t afford nor would I understand a scan tool of that caliber. 😆

I had an issue with the downstream sensor. I got P0143 trouble code. Check live data, it had a close loop fault and the voltage on the downstream sensor was over 1 Volts where it should be around what you have there (0.44-0.45V at idle). I then checked the fuses and voltage continuity on circuit, those were find. I swapped out the that downstream sensor and code and subsequent MIL light cleared.

I noticed on my downstream O2 sensor that my heater wires the insulation was snapped open they were short circuit in each other. And blowing fuse 43, got that taped up I haven’t bought a new sensor. Fuse 43 doesn’t blow anymore everything on fuse 43 works, but now I still have the bank one sensor two heater circuit malfunction. When the car is cold the check engine light comes on, when it’s an operating temp and I clear the code. I drove it for 37 miles, and no check engine light. Is my computer damaged or do you believe I just need a new O2 sensor

I would have skipped all the computer testing and used my X-ray vision to look through the cowl panel and once I saw the mouse nest I would have assumed the mouse chewed through a wire and repaired it w some electrical tape.

Man I'm having the same issue with bank 1 sensor 3. Although it's getting power and the ground is good but the heater circuit wire is not functioning right. It keeps throwing code p0147 and p0146. I got under the car and disconnected the o2 sensor wires. I kept bending the wires left and right and I followed that same exact harness you showed which I looked for any cuts or mouse bites but didn't see anything. After putting the windshield rain tray back on code p0147 is gone now but I'm still getting p0146.
@PositiveLeadDiagnostics
@PositiveLeadDiagnostics 2 жыл бұрын
You should have some kind of bias voltage on the heater circuit ground wire with the sensor unplugged. If you don’t have that, do the same check at the computer with the sensor unplugged to see if you have the bias voltage there. maybe there is a break in the harness somewhere

Frank Gonzalez you can do so much with a basic test light,multimeter,cheap code reader..it all depends on you’re skills..and learning capabilities..sometimes you can only do so much then you’ll need a high end scan tool plus a scope.

Couldn't you just do a continuity check on the wire where you plugged it into the back of the computer, To the end of the plug where the o2 sensor plugs in?

What is the cost of this Job in America?
@tucoramirez6678
@tucoramirez6678 5 жыл бұрын
$573.95! I have an O2 problem code. In January 2019 I got a written estimate from a VW dealership just outside Washington, DC, of $268.95 for the new OEM sensor alone. The diagnostic is another $175 (if I skip their diagnostic scan, they will not guaranty anything if the car continues to throw the same O2 sensor code after the new sensor is installed). Note: another professional mechanic with 25 years experience has already used a very high end, $5,000 PROFESSIONAL Diagnostic machine which indicated I have a bad O2 sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 2). Plus 1 hour of dealership mechanic labor will cost me $130. This cost is assuming that THE O2 sensor is bad & needs to be replaced. By comparison, I can buy an original OEM BOSCH Sensor online for $120; borrow or rent a crow's claw & a ratchet tool from AutoZone for free or for less than $20 & change the sensor in less than 30 minutes. Moral of the story is this: Doing any work on your car at a car dealership in America (work that is not covered by your car's warranty), is the same as opening your window and throwing money out of it. They will rip you off.... every time!
