You are not alone ! 999 was the ultimate superbike when I was a teenager. Got a 2006 for 4K€ last year. Had to do quite a bit of work on it, but it is so nice to have in the garage. 140bhp is enough on the road, and it does look awesome in monoposto !

It's gotten traction after the initial years of pure Ducatisti flame. The bike, especially in person, looks awesome and most camera shots dont really do it justice. It's also got a ton of unique features that makes it stand out and not belong to any specific period in bike design. Originally it was actually designed with a single sided swingarm and some other changes in the front, but these were changed by Ducati engineers/marketing people who wanted to cut some costs and primarily focus on the performance level alone, and then it was changed to a normal swingarm for production. Too bad (even though I still find it to be good looking).

I think the next generation in that model range was the peak of the analog superbike. But I'm probably biased because I own one: a 2010 1198 S Corse SE. It's a claimed 370 lbs dry with 170 HP and 97 lb-ft, and it's wrapped in one of the most beautiful liveries that Ducati has ever released.

It’s only a lot of maintenance if you do it all. I changed belts at 8k they looked like new, so then I changed belts at 30k they looked like new. If you ride the bike vs letting it sit in the garage the belts don’t stiffen up and if you aren’t hitting the rev limiter on it every 10 seconds you can easily halve the maintenance “requirements”. So at 33,000 miles, I’ve changed the belts twice, one set of fork seals, one starter clutch (a known defect on the 1098), one set of spark plugs, two rear blinkers (rubber stalks eventually break down and snap off), one headlight bulb, one radiator, one chain and sprocket set along with many sets of break pads and a pile of tires. So for 14 years and 33K that’s less than $5000 for the hard bits. I think that’s pretty reasonable and it still runs like a scalded dog.

I bought a base 2007 model when it was first released and had it for around 15K miles. Your review was spot on. Life was good and the motor ran cool enough when you were really ringing the hell out of the thing. A heavy clutch pull, fluffy sub 3K RPM, and stop & go traffic could make life miserable. Luckily, my home was nestled in a prime, back country riding location. The brakes were the absolute best that I have sampled over the last 33 years of sportbike riding. The plastic tank had recurring warping issues. Sadly, the aluminum tank, from the Ducati accessory catalog, went "obsolete " before I could order one. Still, she was a brute, and I'm glad I owned her for those 7 years...

@@hectichive889 they're not so bad, timing belt change every other year, dry clutches can wear fast if abused but other than that they're okay,if you want a hard edged, raw, unyielding thoroughbred motorcycle then this is the bike, worth every penny, utterly awesome, but if you want a bike to ride steady or pootle about on then a horrible bike to ride, very uncompromising but 100% Italian passion.👍✌

These were the last of the booming L-twins Ducati made, with a rad note from good pipes. The later L-twins got to be pretty soft on the exhaust note and required a lot of revs to develop power.

Fun fact: The designer of the 999 - Piere Terblanche - actually designed the 999 with a single sided swingarm and many other alterations, but he was overruled by Ducati higher-ups who saw it easier to get the same performance at a cheaper cost/manufacturing. Almost all the negative parts that Ducatisti complained about, were things that were changed by engineers and marketing people, not the actual Ducati designers themselves. Sadge

Messed up design. Trying to appease the old dicatista of old whilst introducing Japanese R1-esk style. One ugly machine that hasn’t aged well at all. Terblanche knew what he was doing with the 999. Now that’s one awesome looking bike that looks modern even by today’s standards.

Does anyone know what the most upright sitting naked bike is of the newer bikes? I'd like to get a sportier bike but do not want to be hunched over or laying on the tank. Please advise, Thanks! For reference I'm 5'9" with a large build.

Mt09 if you have had past bike experience. I'm the same size and the bike was perfect. The motor is a godsend. Other then that maybe a zh2 or a 1290.

Just in the first minute you have used 10 random images unrelated to motorbikes. 1 per 10 seconds! You’re ruining your videos with this junk

Find a true RC8R 2014... This one is the true analogic one. + Better than this ducati you have there

Of course a 2014 is better than a 2008. RC8 is known to be nice on the road. But it won absolutely no competition whatsoever…

Ducati 999 was the best BEST LOOKING DUCATI ever. Ducati 1098 was also good. Rest ducatis are just plain UGLY. Ducati Panigale V4RR is not only the ugliest UGLIEST DUCATI ever, it is THE UGLIEST MOTORCYCLE IN THE WORLD.
