These expenses are more than reasonable. 9k for 1198s that is in 100% working condition and with all those extras is still a great price. This is becoming a future classic fast, so probably won't drop in value that quick.

I had a 848evo and it’s the best looking bike. That gen just nailed the styling and presence so well.

That amount of money is extremely worth it for that bike, do not regret it I'm sure the pride and smiles it will bring you will be worth every cent.

Last month I found and bought my 2009 Black 1198S with 960 original miles, Termi cans, the race ECU, and lots of CF parts. $10,800. SoCal. Changed the cam belts last week and replaced the Ohlins shock spring with a heavier rate spring for my larger than average self. Easy peasy. Bitchin like new bike.

Congrats!! Such a good bike.

@@PracticalEnthusiast I've had fast liter bikes forever. I currently also have an 05 ZX-10r. It's an awesome bike, but the 1198S is so much more high strung and intense. Compared to it the 10r is plush and smooth. The 1198S is a trackday missile. I love feeling the power pulses from those huge pistons.

What an awesome bike it become! I also invest money in my 2010 Ducati Hypermotard 1100 Evo (also one of the last "analog" Ducati) all the time to make it perfect! Cant stand if something on my bike is broken or scratched. Way of life! Like your videos very much, seen them all, very educational... looking forward to new bike overhauls! Dude, that's a beautiful bike and was a steal at the original price. Like you I have tried to find an "S" model in any reasonable condition for less than 10K and it's very difficult. You may be able to find a base model for 6, but an S? Almost impossible. Congratulations on your find! I have really enjoyed this video series.

Great job. I think you came out well ahead, plus you know the work was done right. I hope to get a 1198 soon, I can and will do my own work but I'm willing to pay more so I can work less LOL. Well done and enjoy your bike.

You made everything right! She will pay everything back. Even in money, if you might decide to sell her one day. And meanwhile money won‘t pay you, what you will get with every ride: memories only a few even have the opportunity to make. I own the same model but i paid around 10.000€ for it. and i think even that was a good buy. Cause she is in mint condition. And i feel blessed with every ride. greetings from germany! ✌️

Well I would say that at least 2500 was optional expenses. The maintenance stuff definitely needed but slipper clutch, exhaust, windscreen, etc are not needed items

I bought my 08 1098 4 Years ago for $6800, had to buy a used motor 3 months later for $1900, and last year had the motor professionally rebuilt for a little over $6000. Yes I could have bought a brand new one for that total amount, but this is one of those dream bikes.... absolutely no rider aids and is just a joy to ride.. I'll be keeping it forever. If you have love for the thing, the money really doesn't seem to matter,

Beautiful bike. It's quite surprising how all the seemingly little things, add up quickly. I'm fixing my 2004 cbr1000. Had to send the crank to be welded and reground for one con journal, and new bearings along with all the hardware to finish, is costing me close to $2000.00.

@@PracticalEnthusiast I’ve got a 2009 1198 base model, my friend and I have done all the work ourselves including the Desmo service. I paid $4,500 for the bike and it needed a lot of love. I’m in it about $7,500 but if I were to have paid shop prices, I’d be looking at about $13,000 in labor as we’ve got about 100 hours of labor in the bike. That being said, I just picked up a 2005 Monster S4R and gonna do the same thing but wanted a more comfortable ride for longer trips. But I live my 1198 and it has totally been worth it.

It's not the "last of the old school" Ducati's. That would be the 1098 and 848 with no traction control (no rider aids at all). Though some might argue the 748's and 998's were the last of the classic Duck's. Of course in 2030, the 1198's and newer will be classics as the last of the petrol-engine bikes.

I paid $2,000 for a Concorde. And spent 1500. And then the head gasket blew and it definitely wasn't worth that. The guy who sold it to me knew for an absolute fact that it had a bad head gasket I just didn't realize it until after and I got screwed over.

@PracticalEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
Any 2V Ducati is going to be easier on the wallet to maintain. As far as reliability goes, they're all reliable assuming they receive the prescribed maintenance.

@@PracticalEnthusiast okay thank you so should I just Google 2 valve ducatis? And go from there? Or are there any models in particular you reccomend?

I would suggest starting with the Ducati Monster 696. There are numerous other models, including ones with larger engines, but that will be one of the least expensive and most reliable ones to run.

@PracticalEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
@@kjslayz5097 I haven't had issues with the slave cylinder yet, but I have noticed a small oil leak developing from where the slave cylinder pushrod goes through the engine case. I think it happens because the rod is rotating with the clutch pressure plate (even though it really shouldn't, but nothing is stopping it). I believe there is an upgrade slave cylinder available that also comes with a new pushrod that is locked in place with slave cylinder piston so it doesn't spin and destroy the sealing O-ring. I'll pick one of those up soon, you might check it out too!
