I watched 3 of your videos, although not necessarily in step by step instructions, you are learning while teaching at the same time. That makes it more realistic to me. You don't fast forward a bunch of steps and you get us through it. I know a lot more because of your videos than when I started, so thank you to you! Tim

It’s always better to add r134 by weight. I believe this car requires 16 oz max. Great videos, keep up the great work.

Assuming you have your stock hood, every car should have a sticker telling you min/max r134a by weight on a sticker under the hood, so when in doubt check there!

Any set of gauges can get leaky seals, I had that problem just recently. My master cool gauges were leaking from the low side seals. I could have gotten the parts to fix them for $5 plus $12 shipping, but it would have taken several days, so I got a new set of Yellow Jacket gauges for $75 at Grainger instead, they had it for me the next morning.

I've read that pressure switch turns fan on Condenser to high at 213psi so I imagine that is an expected value when hot outside. however you may be overcharged. I believe the sticker under the hood calls for a fraction more than 1 can. Maximum is something like 15.9oz.

new to this but do you have to recharge your AC if you replaced condenser and radiator ?
@DoctorFixMaster
@DoctorFixMaster Жыл бұрын
Yes. You can't service the condenser without first evacuating the system of refrigerant.

Is it bad to drive around with no refrigerant or air? Asking cause I need to replace my compressor, which I will do myself, but need to drain the system/ recharge the system, which I will have the mechanic do.
@seabass22
@seabass22 4 жыл бұрын
BMTH 356 your fine. When you install the condensor, just be sure everything else is done. Save hooking up the lines for the last step because you want to keep a vacuum on it and the dryer. Undo the plugs, hook up the lines, and get your vacuum going on the system.

U put two 12 oz of Freon. So that’s 24oz. But the max is 15.9 oz only. How’s the car rt now?
@DoctorFixMaster

The values were a little off the ranges I was expecting after adding the coolant, and I kept adding it until the numbers were as close as I could get them to the optimum range. I did put in more than usual, but I haven't had a bit of trouble with the AC since then, and that was 3 years ago. Also be careful with the terminology. Most newer AC's use R134a, loosely called "Freon", but "Freon" can also mean R22. Make sure you're using the right refrigerant. R22 is rarely used anymore if ever.

Didn't know my car was out of freon until recently when a mechanic pointed it out but is it safe or okay to drive the car without any in it? It won't harm the car right? I don't really care about having my AC working since it's about to start getting cold outside.
@DoctorFixMaster
@DoctorFixMaster 3 жыл бұрын
Running your car without refrigerant in the AC will not harm it. It just won't blow cold air. More than likely the system will detect low pressure and your compressor clutch won't even engage.

Where did u find that gauge
@DoctorFixMaster
@DoctorFixMaster 2 жыл бұрын
I got my gauge set from Harbor Freight. It was super cheap, but it works. I did have problems with the high side connector though. It blew an o-ring, so I replaced the high and low side connectors with Robinair ones. Those are bulletproof, but I'm still careful about disconnecting the high side under pressure. I turn the car off now and let it sit for a while to depressurize before disconnecting it. I don't want to blow o-rings on my expensive connectors.

Were the robinair gauges pricy?
@DoctorFixMaster
@DoctorFixMaster 3 жыл бұрын
yes. As I recall the Robinair gauges were twice as much as the set from Harbor Freight, but the Harbor Freight ones I bought were temperamental and I had to borrow a Robinair set anyway to finish the job. :)

@@rynstvy I got a cheap one of those from Harbor Freight. That worked just fine, so evidently you can go cheap on those as long as it will pull a vacuum.

In principle, yes. Although I'm not familiar with the exact layout of the Si under the hood. There could be some differences, but I bet they are very similar.

R-134a cools, does it not? Is not cooling its primary function? Is splitting hairs over what I called it the extent of your contribution here? Anyone confusing R-134a with ethylene glycol should probably not be doing their own auto repairs.

It still works. 5 years and zero trouble. Some people say 'trust your gauges' and some people say 'fill by weight'. The latter is probably good if you can assume the can has what it claims inside of it. You be the judge, but you can't argue with a system that works.

You spelled "too" wrong and didn't punctuate. The repetition about the gauges was intentional. It helps people remember the most important things. How nitpicky do we want to be?
