I really appreciate the attention to detail and the camera angles provided as well as a simple explanation without rambling on about irrelevant details. Your videos are concise and too the point and easy enough to understand no matter how much experience you have in automotive maintenance. Thanks for the vid!!!

Nice video. I like the fact that you are doing it in your garage on the floor and not on a lift in a professional repair garage. Give regular people more confidence to do it themselves.

Thanks for this video it got me in the right direction. I spent 2.5 hours trying to get the bolts off the caliper bracket with my wimpy 3/8 drive. I spent $35 and bought a breaker bar (1/2 drive 15" handle) and the bolts came off in 2 minutes.

After removing the screws that hold the rotor to the hub, they typically can be threaded back into the rotor in the previously empty holes clocked about 90 degrees from the holes you removed them from. This will push the rotor and hub assembly apart with out the risk of damaging a stud from an errant hammer swing. I really enjoy your videos. Are you still working on the quad-copter?

Great video. I'm jealous that your rotor hold down screws came out so easily. I have NEVER had them come out like that. :) I almost always have to drill them out (they are usually Aluminum). Also, the two threaded holes in the rotor can be used to push the rotor off the housing. That way you don't have to hit the assembly.

When prying the callipers apart it's a good idea to ensure that you are not flooding the reservoir, especially if you are dealing with really worn rotors and the driver is keeping a good eye on their fluid levels.

Thanks, hackman for your your useful tips, particularly the turning the wheel to better approach the back...I wondered if you ever ran into 4 wires in a brake pad replacement box (from a dealer); I can't figure out where they go...They're approx 3 inches each and somewhat U shaped.

Very well done instructional video on the subject. Knowing about the 18mm size caliper to knuckle bolt comes in handy as I have to go and get a replacement. Funny how tools sprout feet and wander off. On thing i noticed which I'm rather strange about is the term "Emergency Brake". I got into the habit of calling it a parking break. Dumb as it may sound is that I think emergency brake to the automobile mechanical total novice is that it seems to denote what is used in an emergency situation. Which yes it obviously can. But the novice I think sometimes takes it too literally as I have gotten into so many peoples different vehicles and the parking brake is not engaged. When I have remembered to ask them what the name of it is while pointing to the hand lever the reply has always been emergency brake. I maybe totally wrong on this but I'm under the impression that applying the parking break helps to adjust the rear brakes but then that possibly could be just on drum brakes. If I am deluded on that I now will jump to the concept that in any case the driver should always have the parking brake applied when exiting the vehicle or when it is parked. This of course applies to auto transmissions because anybody with a manual trans knows that novice or not. Why do I feel so full of myself all of a sudden?

When you jacked up the car using a floor jack under the middle of the front end what did you put the jack on? I've been very shy about resting the jack on anything in the middle front but it woud be nice to know where it is safe to do that. It saves a lot of time to raise the whole front end.

It's such an amazing video. However I have some questions. Do you have to resurface your brand new rotor before to putbit on the car? Did u check for the"safe" thickness tge rator should be according to honda specs? Thanks again
@Michael-xz4ym
@Michael-xz4ym 7 жыл бұрын
New rotors should be well within recommended thickness, and aside from cleaning off residue like he did in the video, new rotors should not need to be resurfaced. That's why they are new.... So you DON'T have to do those things

The OEM pads are organic. They do a good job for most commuters and last 3 to 4 years. Duralast is a good pad and their pads and rotors have a great guarantee. If you decide to upgrade to bimetallic or ceramic the pads they will last a bit longer but rotor replacement will be more often. Ceramic pads do have much less dust but costs over twice as much. I can do a front pad replacement in less than an hour, and the organic pads for the front are only $20. Video Pros - Removing anti corrosion goo from the new rotor is very important. Knocking the rotor loose with big hammer vice prying on the assembly is a great point. Video Cons - Go to harbor freight and get two jack stands and two wheel chocks - Yes go now. Signed: Capt. Obvious

Overtorque especially on alloy wheels means they will be much more prone to breaking off at the hub. Too loose and they fall off, too tight and you are going to have them fail when you brake hard. If you tighten them up till they creak then they are too tight. Air tools to tighten are definitely a no go here, they will strip the studs with time.

Yeah I hate when they do that. Unless there is a leak in the brake system (which should be repaired as soon as possible) you should not keep topping off the brake fluid as the pads wear and fluid is displaced into the caliper pistons.
