2008 Nikon D60 Review! (Is it Worth it in 2020?)

In short, the Nikon D60, released in 2008 is still a viable option today for photography, and the quality of the camera on par with other top DSLRs.
👉 The only downsides I see are its age and only having the ability to shoot photos, but otherwise, I would totally recommend this to anyone at any skill level in photography!

I have a D750 and my old D60 that's now 12 years old. I still use the D60 sometimes. The main reason is the CCD sensor in the D60; it renders colors very vibrantly. It's not very color accurate but it has a certain look to it. There's something magical about those old CCD sensors that aren't being used anymore. 10,2 Megapixels is plenty enough by the way. I have used the D60 as my main camera for 9 years doing large prints and paid shoots and it comes out great. It's old, lacks dynamic range and you can't bump the ISO up above 800.. but that really forces you into thinking about lightning conditions. Seriously, I often grab the D60 because I like to push it to the limit and that gets me more creative. It is still very usable as said in this video. And it fits all your F mount lenses ofcourse. The D60 is a steal nowadays. The biggest downside of using old tech is always the battery... being 12 years old, it lasts about 45 minutes. Luckely aftermarket batteries are still available.

Hi Maxwell, Inenjoyed your video. I just biught 2 D-60 bodies for 50 each. Gave one to my granddaughter and one for me. They are a great starter dslr. The lens you have on there is most likely the 18-55 VR. There are some great videos on you tube that explain all of the features and how to use them. You are right video came along in the D3200 or D 3300. Learn the basics with the D-60 and if you really like it move up to a good used D-5300. Enjoy yourself!!! Cameras are lots of fun!!

Maxwell: I missed one thng in my comment, I highly recommend you get 2 new batteries, they are available on Amazon or Battdepot for about 12 dollars each. The original battery is old and may not hold a charge very long especially if you are useing flash. Keep an extra card with you also. Nothing worse than having anbattery die when you are out taking pictures. Brad

That is My 1st DSLR Camera when i was 14 & 15 yrs Old Never Let Me Down back in the Day i took many iconic photos with that thing. Very Sharp shooter like a gun, Clear shots better than Phones til today in my opinion. But the only bad one thing is it dont take vidz. But 4 Photoshoot very worth it.

Amanda Houston Ahm for my Video Vlogging Ma’am is Sony Handycam HDR PJ-740VE & Samsung Note 4 But now Currently i have No Mirrored DSLR Camera because I gave it to my uncle in the Philippines he’s a teacher and like to take Photos for souvenirs of indigenous people who’s living in the Rural Areas. Maybe in the Next few months I will get a Nikon D90 or the D3300 bcoz Im Also planning 2 take photos of the people in the mountain and Develope or print it and give it all to them for free and use it for wildlife animals photography and my Vlogging as well :)

What is this camera like for taking actions photos? Like a dog running, does the action part Go all fuzzy or is it fairly good at action shots

it is not the greatest for action shots. However, I would recommend making the shutter speed as high as you can. Using the burst mode or high speed continuous might also help to get more of the action in focus.

I don't believe you can, I think the camera is too old. However, if you have a smartphone, you can use that as a webcam which will make the quality better for zoom calls. The D60 can only shoot photos, and isn't capable of being a webcam.

hmm. I see, from what I can tell, you're using the wrong battery for the D60. There needs to be a specific one used in the camera. Maybe try ordering another one off amazon specifically for the D60.

There is an app for it, but the reviews don't seem great. The way I do it is transfer them into my computer, then upload them to my Google drive and then it's synced to the Google drive app on my phone.

The camera only accepts SDHC cards (whether a SD card or a micro SD in an adapter) which caps out at 32gb. Higher capacities have to be SDXC which the camera won't recognize.

wanie mimok Don’t wipe it with a napkin or tissue - they will likely transfer more dirt onto the lens or scratch the glass coating on the front element. Try applying a microfiber cloth in a circular motion to the lens or if that doesn’t work try a lens cleaning swab.

@@muaznetnet honestly, if you get use out of the camera and u will use it frequently. But, this camera is from 2008, so I would reccomend upgrading to something like the Canon M50 from 2018 which is only $500.

The D60 is extremely good for photography. However, I would say to get a more recent option because this camera is from 2008. I would go with the Canon EOS M50 and it is $500 with the kit lens. I currently use it for my videos. I have a review/unboxing as well on the channel if you're interested.

Honestly, that error could mean a lot of different things. I’d first of all recommend that you take out the battery and charge it, then leave it for a couple of hours and put it back in. If that doesn’t work, try cleaning the lens contacts (the little metal dots on the rear of the lens) with a microfiber cloth or a lens swab. If that doesn’t work, take the lens off, and look inside the camera to see if the mirror is in the up position. If it is, the mirror might be caught, and I believe if you push it to one side it will return to the correct position, but I’d watch a video on how to do this. If all of these suggestions don’t work, then in most likelihood the shutter mechanism has failed or the aperture control unit is in need of repair and I’d take it to Nikon in that case.
