Oh, its the cars fault when it died because it got neglected!? These German Opel Astras are extremely reliable and there are millions of them in Europe. Especially in Germany you won't find any Astra that is crappy and neglected like this one.

Whoever owned this Astra didn’t take care of this car. These 1.8 Ecotecs are reliable as long as you take care of it. It’s a shame the car was scrapped I would’ve bought it for $200 then put a used engine in it.

It's an Opel,GM's German division which they sold a few years ago to a French auto company. Opel used to build the most reliable engines on the whole European continent and even better than any of our big 3 auto companies..But they got themselves into trouble by constantly re-designing their engines in the past 20 years. Hence the reason Toyota owners are so loyal.

Wow. Last words in video "sounds like a model T. Ok bye." Yet you post this video as '2008 saturn astra fix'..? You literally just bitched at the fact that it was made somewhere in Europe (js mine was designed in Poland by vauxhall/opel but likely manufactured in Mexico by gm..) regardless then you gave up on fixing it not even noticing that it was a manual til the very end.. I wouldn't have come to much of a better conclusion in this case but extremely unhelpful for anyone looking for help repairing their otherwise VERY reliable car.. I have no idea what this guy did to his car and it's probably trash at this point but nice "fix" and thank you for the time wasted. I am going to get back to saving my awesome car. 👌

yes, opel has been producing quite interesting things since 1998, here in Europe when I took apart a z12xe engine for the first time, I alternately cried, laughed and wondered how people could drive 3-400 thousand km with it. you can bend the rod of the piston in your hand.

LOL at the story in the beginning of the video! Reminds me of my old lady when she got her first POS car at 18. She told me she was on the highway and the car would keep going slow, no matter how hard she pressed on the "go" peddle, LOL! I was hoping that the engine would just turn into a blob of molten scrap! I think this may have been your quickest fix ever! GET RID OF THE JUNK!!! LOL, has a pretty mean idle! OKAY BYE!

This seems pretty jerky. The Saturn Astra is the same car as Opel Astra in Europe, Vauxhall Astra in England, Holden Astra in Australia. All are owned by General Motors. Saab had noting to do with it. Saturn had already failed by 2008, and the Saturn rebadged Opel Astra was just a little too late to help. You see German parts because it was built in Belgium. GM did far better with the Astra worldwide than in the US. The 1.8 liter Ecotec engine is strong and well proved worldwide. Actually easier to service than GM’s US equivalent engines.
