Thanks for this, I'm looking at doing this on my 2007 Freelander 2 (LR2) so should be fun!

How did you separate the lower control arm ball joint from the steering knuckle? I have loosened it but I cannot fully extract it. I am using a ball joint fork to pry the lower control arm down but it only goes so far and stops. Hope you can help.

Read my previous replies about this same question. Pry bar, hammer, ratchet straps, heat.

Do you need to do wheel alignment after changing wheel bearing using this tool?

Do you have to left both front wheels? Did you remove the ball joint? It doesn't look like it was removed.

KC, Im in a bit of a mess.. Im stuck on removing the knuckle because I don't have the removal tool. How exactly did you detach the ball joint? I got it off, but it WONT completely come off. Im so frustrated. Help?

You can try wrapping a ratchet strap around the end of the control arm to help pry it down and hold it. Then use a long crow bar or pipe to get leverage for pushing the control arm down and out of knuckle. It usually gets stuck coming completely out and how I get it out is with a 3lbs hammer and a short metal pipe. I place the pipe on the end and top of the arm and hammer it many times until it comes out. It's a real pita. Since you're taking the knuckle out it might be easier to just remove the control arm, will make it easier to get the ball joint separated

Thank you for your video and information. I purchased the same Gen2 tool. How did you separate the lower ball joint and hub spindle?

The lower ball joint is not easy to get separated. VIDA calls for a specialized pry bar tool that costs a lot of money. I opted for a long crow bar wedged between the control arm and crossmember. Also a metal pipe pressed against the control arm pounded on by a 3 lbs hammer helps it loosen the ball joint and arm.

Thanks again. It came apart with the right leverage. The tool worked flawlessly, I coated the bearings and threads to prevent wear. I can't find torque specifications. Would this be a VIDA manual? www.ebay.ca/itm/For-Volvo-2001-2014-XC70-V70-Service-Repair-Workshop-Manual-Factory/252308579062?fits=Year%3A2012%7CModel%3AXC70%7CMake%3AVolvo&hash=item3abec362f6:g:VgEAAOSwhIZbKtIy&vxp=mtr

You display in the video that this is a 2010 Volvo XC70, but YOU SAY it's a 2010 XC90. I looked up the front wheel bearing part for the 2010 XC90. That assembly is a bolt on type wheel bearing and hub, not a press in type. The bearing assembly for the XC70 IS a press in type.

Yes that was an error when I was recording. That is why I put in text over the video XC70. I also own a XC90 so I got mixed up when I spoke.
