I remember when Chevrolet first brought the pre production ZR1 to Carlisle back in 2008. One of the engineers got in and started it. It sounded like a base C6 on normal startup. Then he asked the crowd if it sounded like it had 638 horsepower. When the crowd said no, he gunned the throttle and the roar was so loud that it startled half the crowd. Then, he asked “how about now?” Lol

Over the years i've had a least 5 different corvettes ....my favorite is the one i have now...it's a 2013 60th Anniversary ZR-1 with the Anniversary Arctic white paint/ stripes ,,,,, the car is beautiful and what a beast ...just love it!!

Hands down, the C6 ZR1 was the best Vette GM ever made. The engines were hand made and signed. Sadly, you still need deep pockets to own one and maintain it. But they're worth every penny.

same for the LS7, except for the cooling issues that the LS7 does not have. Love the LS9, but stock they consistently put out WAY under 600 hp numbers on the dyno. LS7s are rock solid, late ones (12-13) are around 520 hp. So yeah, I'm keeping my Z06 Centennial Edition. Still love the ZR1 though. Z06 with Z07 package just edges it slightly.

@@C6SuperchargedZR1 😂 ls7 has valve issues, ls9 only needs a solid isolator and better cooling bricks. Zr1 is the King of the Hill, a z06 can’t hold a candle to it.

And unlike the C7 ZO6, the C6 ZR1 had no over-heating issues. Go figure. Plus, the ZR1 came standard with Carbon Ceramic brakes. Which mean no brake dust! With the C7 ZO6 these you only got these brakes if you checked the ZO7 option box and that was an expensive upgrade. So, yes, the C6 ZR1 gave you a better bang for the buck IMO. Lastly, Jim Mero made available updated software for the ZR1 which improves the handling even more. Great upload Lyle.👍 Save the Wave👋

Hi, just subscribed a couple weeks ago, and really enjoy your videos. I just bought a crystal red 2010 ZR1 will 11K, have not taken delivery yet, but looking forward to it. We currently have a 2019 ZR1, 2020 3LT C8, kinda decided we want a c6, std shift, so ZR1 it was. We are older, theses are all babied, driven only on nice days, we live in Maine, so they get parked for 5 months or so. Keep up the good work.

Yep, I’m finally in a position to seriously consider a Corvette and was really wanting to start looking at the C6 ZR1. The cheapest I found was $69k and I’ve seen them over $84k. Ugh.

Me to I bought a c5 zo6 last summer and modded it to save money and I wanted the c6 zr1 but with that being said the c6 zr1 has went up a lot in price the last year with the used car market being crazy. I think In the next year though they will start going back down in price.

Most of them with low mileage are now 94-100K. But like Lyle hinted to, most have been tracked so you got to be careful even with the ones with low mileage. They say low miles as a teaser, but on forums, you'll see that they've been dogged out on tracks. In other words, abused. Be careful and good luck.

Same here. I have a 03 Base C5 I almost pulled the trigger on a trade 2 years age with a C6 ZR1. Damn I wish I would had. I believe it was 50k with low miles they have gone up 20k since.

@@josels1292 There's 2 gorgeous ones for sale at RK Motors in Charlotte. The black one is a cream puff. Has no signs of tracking in the pics. But the sticker price will make you cry.

The last thing you want to get for a "first" Corvette is a 638 HP power house. You'll get in trouble real fast.

I had the opportunity to track the ZR1 at Spring Mountain in Pahrump. I own a C6 Z06 snd also drove that at Spring Mountain. The ZR1 is certainly faster but the brakes are the real differentiator on the track. They allow you to drive much deeper into the corner than the Z 06. That’s what really stood out to me. Thanks for the insight. Never knew the amazing Brembo’s were from the Ferrari.

U for got about the Dodge Viper it was a super car and it came out before the 09 ZR1

It was a very competent car, for certain. I have driven a few examples or different model years and I alway felt the Viper was more of a high-powered curiosity than an actual production super car. Not many were made, and they always seemed to feel hand-built and not quite finished--plus they smelled of hot glue when they were at temperature. Not to day they weren't exotic or fast--they were--and the ACR version was a true track monster...It just always lacked the "finished" feel that a super car should (in my opinion) have. Lyle

Good morning, just purchased a 2009 ZR1 last week. It gets shipped this Friday. This will be my 3rd vetter. I had a 2015 stingray and then a 2018 zo6. I am a little more excited about this one. 16,000 miles and one owner before me. Any recommendations on changing anything or leave as is? Chris

Replace all of your fluids if it hasn't been done and check tire dates, but other than that it should be a very nice ready-to-go car. Lyle

Didn’t Z07 Z06 come with F55 in 2011? I have one.

I looked it up, and when they introduced the Z07 package in 2011 it DID have the F55 Suspension! I learn something new every day in this line of work, and this is what I learned today! Additionally, in the 2011-2013 production years, only 740 Z07 equipped Z06's were produced--which means that you have a very rare car AND that I don't feel quite so bad about not knowing about the specifics of it! :) :) :) Lyle

@@csvette Z07 s are truly amazing too, just a few ticks off of the ZR-1 at nuremberg and actually laid down faster numbers at Sebring. Some people will argue that the Naturally Aspirated motor is better for the road courses due to the fact it won’t heat wash like the LS9. Love the information, keep up the good work. Maybe a short video of the Z07 Zs would be cool.

Those are all great and storied cars. I would argue that the prices and low production numbers of those three supercars place them in a different category than the $103K ZR1, but I see your point. Maybe I should adjust it to first mainstream, mass-produced American Supercar? Lyle :)
