Replacing the rear shocks on my 4th generation Ram 1500. If you are about to replace your shocks on your 4th or in the process and having trouble, I would suggest on watching the video. Thanks for watching everyone.

Guys, what I did, I grabbed 1-1/2” hole saw, looked where upper bolt is and made a hole in the plastic wheel well. Both sides took me less than hour, up and down the jack. So many will disagree, but taking that plastic off for me means mud flaps, flares… anyway, win for me, idea for you.

Great job outlining the procedure on this. I will be tackling the same job this coming weekend. Thanks for the video!

I am about to do the same. How did yours go?

It went very well. I went to Home Depot and bought a 21mm wrench (box on one side, open end on the other). I put it in my vice and heated the middle of it with a torch until it was glowing red and then bent it with a rubber mallet until it was 90 degrees. I used that to take the top mounting nut off. On another note, I replaced the rear coil springs with 50% heavier duty ones from Amazon (Misakomo brand) for $175 to minimize the rear end squat when towing my travel trailer. Both the shocks (went with Bilsteins) and the spring change out helped tremendously.

Here’s a little trick I learned when I did mine, I used a crows foot to get on the nut on the inside of the frame rail. They’re not tacked, which I believe they should be. The best thing to get at that nut in my opinion would be a 21mm torque adapter with a 3/8” drive.

I totally agree, that nut should’ve been tacked. That would definitely make the process a bit easier. Thanks for sharing your tools of choice to get at that tuff to reach nut. Thanks for watching and please like and subscribe.🔧🔧🔧

After trying different ways to hold the upper nut I ended up trying an O2 sensor socket. It actually worked!!!

Bilstein 5100 shocks are really good. I have them on my truck. You should give them a try sometime. Good job 👍🏽

I was thinking about replacing the shocks on my truck with some Bilstein’s but ended up going oem all around. Bilstein has a great reputation and I trust their products to last and perform as intended. Thanks for watching.👍

@@user-hk8le4dz1z I purchased the shocks absorbers from a local Dodge dealer. All they needed from me was the trucks vin#, which was nice. Thanks for watching and if you haven’t already please like and subscribe.🔧🔧🔧

Nice video. Does this process also work with air ride suspension equipped Rams?
@93dajjdg
@93dajjdg Жыл бұрын
I do believe you should be able to follow most of the process you saw in the video. The height sensor on the rear air suspension may need to be removed to get the shock out easier, but again most of my directions should work for you. Thanks for watching and please like and subscribe. 👍👍👍

I wouldn't think you could compress that shock that easily

did you make a video for the front?
@93dajjdg
@93dajjdg Жыл бұрын
No I didn’t, but the front is pretty straight forward. Just take your time and if you have had practice with a spring compressor you have a big advantage. Thanks for watching and please like and subscribe.👍👍👍

Good. Vid. Have to replace all the shocks and ball joints on my 2013. Went quality aftermarket for parts since the dodge parts all gave up at under 90 thousand miles. 98% of the miles on my truck are highway. No off-road. OEM is grossly overpriced Ed junk.
@93dajjdg
@93dajjdg 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching, sounds like you have some work ahead of you. I enjoy my 4th gen ram and plan on keeping her as long as possible, so upkeep is the name of the game. I have to disagree with you though, 90k miles to me is a good amount of life for any suspension piece but you are correct oem isn’t cheap. Again thanks for watching and I do plan on making more videos on the ram so don’t miss out, subscribe.🔧🔧🔧

It’s a milwaukee 1/2 drive impact wrench. If I recall correctly the new ones are like $5-600. They’re well worth it.
