Much appreciated brother!! Got nervous reinstalling it using the new o-ring because it was a bit tighter and a bit difficult to get in but just had to get past the resistance and it went on smooth.

Hi, I had the P0456 on my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan SE, and I did the same thing by replacing this part. The new part came with an O-ring, but it was difficult to reinstall, so I opted not to do it as I didn't see an O-ring on the old part. Then, "GASCAP" displayed on the dashboard immediately, which it had not earlier. I've driven it several times and purchased a new gas cap. I will go back under the van today to re-install with the O-ring. Fun times.

How did u install the oring
@andyp9747Ай бұрын
@@MasterMind-zw3zl Going back to this the second time was much easier. The old o-ring was sitting inside the opening where the ESIM attaches. I reached in with my fingers to grab it, placed the new o-ring in its place, and then firmly pushed and rotated the ESIM part back into place. The GASCAP message just came on this weekend, fortunately after it passed the emission inspection last week. More troubleshooting fun. I'll try cleaning, sanding, and lubing with silicone the area where the gas cap meets the metal. I fear the charcoal canister has a small crack. This is so difficult to troubleshoot without a smoke machine.

Getting your hand in around that heat shield on the right of the tank to get to the evaporator part was a tight fit. I ended up popping off the heat shield a bit to get back in there. Getting you hand in to twist that part while pushing down the clip at the same time is the hardest part of the whole process. When I removed the old part, I did not even see an O-ring on it. It either completely worn off or was torn and fell down somewhere. This pretty much walks you right through the process. Good job. I would suggest getting it up on a lift or a ramp of some sort because working off the ground is not easy.
@marswrld2489Ай бұрын
Did it cause you to have a rough idle?
@sullivan-pughvideoproducti5531Ай бұрын
@ No - it did not. I will say that the 2 biggest issues I had in this fix were (1) getting at the damn thing. Although I didn’t have it on a lift, I had the truck elevated on tire ramps. Still had to squirm around on my back and pull back that shield to work my hands in that tight space. (2) Th O-ring seal - pulled my OEM part off and it had no seal. Disintegrated? Fell off? Who knows but when you have to lock it in place by turning it, you hear a click. The original manufactured part has this cylinder in the middle of the chamber that rattles but the aftermarket parts don’t have it. Quite frankly, it’s kind of a pain in the ass to squirm around up under the truck to change it out

One final comment: My dash had 2 warning lights on. The gas cap loose warning and then the engine light on (constant -not blinking). A constant engine light is indicative of a loose gas cap or vapor leak. Blinking engine light is a more serious problem, not related to emissions. As soon as I changed the evaporator part, the gas cap light went off. The engine light stayed on. I thought a few drives would cause it to disappear. It didn’t. The fix is to pop the hood, disconnect the negative battery cable from your car’s battery. Let it sit loose and disconnected for 20 minutes. Use a 10mm socket wrench to remove the terminal clamp. And pull it away from any contact with the battery post. Re-attach the cable to the post and it resets and goes off.

This was the EXACT fix for my 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi. It took me less than 45 minutes from start to finish to swap out this part. That includes backing the truck up on ramps, chocking the front tires, removing the bad part, replacing it and driving the truck off the ramps, putting up my flathead screwdriver, plyers and chock blocks. Turned out, I didn't need the screwdriver. For me, the hardest part was reaching the tab to pull in to twist off the ESIM and getting the new part lined up to twist it back on. Other than that, it was easy as pie! It does come with an O-ring but, I didn't use it cause it wouldn't go on with me trying to put it on there too. Not to mention, when I pulled the old one off, there wasn't an O-ring (unless it fell off somewhere and I didn't see it). Exact steps I did: Used the plyers to pull the electrical 'dongle' tab off as well as to pull the hose off. Using the plyers on the hose, I placed them on the hose where the hose fits on the connecting tube and just rocked it back and forth until it came loose. I then laid on my right side and used my left hand (awkward yes but it worked best for me) to reach up using my thumb to push the tab in, then twisting counterclockwise until it came off. I then did the same in reverse order to put everything back on. Then, I put my tools and ramps back in their normal spot, fired up the truck to see if the check engine light was on or not. Was VERY happy to see the light did not come back on. Even let it run for about 5 minutes and the light did not come back. Now I can get it inspected so I can get my tags before December. Thank you SO much for your video. SS

What about resetting or clearing the gas cap code? Will it do it by itself or do you need a scanner tool?

Just unhook positive cable for about a minute or so. You want to let it reset. If light comes back on after a few days it’s not fixed. ☹️

Eventually it should reset, but just disconnect your battery if you don’t have a scan tool and that will cheese the light.
