Back in 2017 when I just started my job at the Home Depot as a lot loader, I found a white Challenger that had a rear spoiler and the hood was vinyl wrapped with Hatsune Miku. I only saw it twice before never seeing it again. Thankfully I still have pictures of that "muscle" car.

2009 Dodge Challenger R/T Hemi 6MT: Diane landed her a young buck that's going to be a "defensive tech" at UGA. She drives a Challenger and somehow manages to park it illegally in every single historic downtown area in every single medium and small southern town possible. She likes parallel parking the wrong direction and burning rubber when she makes a u-turn to leave, making sure traffic coming both directions has to stop and watch her. It doesn't matter if there's a traffic light on both sides of her little stunt, she'll just plow through. She's Diane. She won't have to work a day in her life over 30. She's rich, and she's a B*TCH. Her future husband is a big sweetheart though... and his dad's a cop.

This was a car that benefited particularly from the advent of blindspot monitoring. Never driven one, but I sat in a Redeye at a car show once and was amazed at how little I could see over my shoulders.
@Seniorup
@Seniorup 2 жыл бұрын
I have a 19, this is the first car I've left blind spot monitoring beeps on. And the backup cam is the ONLY WAY you can tell how close you are to the barricade while backing in to a parking spot. And you can't pull in because the spoiler thingy on the front is low enough it'll hit sidewalks or those little cement stops.

The Camaro of the same time period (pre-current one) is almost or worse than the Challenger too. I was shocked at trying to reverse park or lane change in one. Felt like my head out to go out the window to see.
@DareToBeDeviant
@DareToBeDeviant 2 жыл бұрын
@@whiplash308 I can vouch for the Camaro problem. A long time ago, at a dealer lot, I was getting service done and walked around the showroom floor to see what plastic cars were featured that week. Oh, a ZL1 convertible? 'Kay. I sat in it with the top down and was immediately hit with a problem: Where the windshield comes in contact with the top was right there, dead center in my field of view. This meant I'd have to either slouch (killing my back) or tilt my head to drive the damn thing. Same goes for putting the top up/down. Yeah, I'm a little long in the torso at 6'2" but I shouldn't be slapped in the head for it.

When I ride my motorcycle I gently accelerate through other driver's blindspots and if necessary move over in the lane. When I pass Challengers and minivans, I drop a gear and go wide open throttle. However, most challengers are already going 20 over, so they pass me instead.

Retro styling for modern cars came before this car and the Mustang. With the new beetle, new Mini Cooper, Jaguar S Type, Rover 75, and a whole other mess of cars that came out in the late 90s. Retro cars are nothing new. Even the cars of the 70s borrowed from the design language of the 1930s. Heck there were neo classical cars in the 60s and 70s. This was nothing new, even in its time.

Actually, y'all are all wrong and imma tell you why. The 1990 Miata was the first retro car of the modern era. The Mazda people can deny it all they want, but the NA Miata is a Japanese Lotus Elan. It's completely divorced from the angular styling of everything else sold at the time. Late 80s early 90s were all about wedges and Mazda popped out a cute, rounded roadster that was straight 60s.

That moment when you "got in the head" of the old men....THAT....THAT was powerful stuff. That was a Bukowski moment of clarity, sadness, frustration, etc. ALL of it. THAT made this episode for me, by far...ONE of my fav RCR moments. I'm 38yrs old and I had a moment like that last week where ALL...ALLLL I wanted was to go back in time to when I was a few years out of getting my DL, and I still had my handmedown 1993 MAzda 323 Manual hatchback eco-shrimp in Aquamarine. And all I wanted to do was....go places on back roads and look at parts of the region I lived in at a chill pace. That I could relax and chill and see the surrounding farmland and waterlands, mashlands and such and to enjoy the manual shifting and weather and yea.....and good milage. But now....Everybody is in a hurry. Every car looks more like a bad copy of each other, and within me is this Brobdignagian urge to tell the world to BE QUIET with your fake exhausts, fast paced "LOOK AT ME" shout about clout and go no faster than 5- because we have literally JAMMED up the roads.....And all I want is that country road in a small Japanese hatchback on a summer afternoon where I can pull off the road and look down a valley into some family's hamlet and thing "wow....". I named by car BABE the Blue OX [as much as a mazda 323 with 98 BHP EVER could be called an Ox...which I loved to laugh at].

That definitely seems like the trend with Dodge interiors, at least until recently. Usually pretty functional, but just parts bin, bland and boring. I like the interior in my 2005 Ram 1500, but it's nothing special, it's just there and pretty boring. Feels very much like a commercial vehicle. Doesn't bother me but I can see why other people would be begging for something a little more memorable. Yeah, the C pillars have their own area code, but having driven both an R/T and owned a Scat Pack, neither with BSM, so long as you check before you merge, or simply hit the gas, it's really not an issue. Harder is getting out into certain intersections enough to see, all the while the hood is jutting out forward. But I drove my Scat over about a quarter of the continental US, without issue. It's a boat, but it's a practical (for a coupe), fun experience that doesn't get old, and a fantastic grand tourer when equipped with a V8.

I still want one of these. I have only ridden in a 2010 SRT8 my wife's brother bought one summer, he then proceeded to drunkenly roll it into a field one night. It was the same color as the one in this video and found it to be a very safe and compliant ride. It had gobs of power and torque and made great noises. It's the only muscle car that you can have that retro look, fantastic power, and travel cross country with your wife and kids comfortably. Edit: Just wanted to add that a few people actually daily these Challengers years round-up here in Alaska, and I am not talking about the AWD with the 3.6 either. They throw some sand in the trunk and run studded winter tires. They seem to do just fine as long as the snow is not too deep.

I remember a Chinese language car magazine’s editorial lambasted the retro-design of the 2008 Dodge Challenger and Ford Thunderbird to prove that American manufacturers are stuck-in-the-mud whereas Asian and European manufacturers has moved onto hybrids and green energy and whatnots because it‘s the future. This car is the antithesis of a Toyota Prius: it’s loud, it’s gas guzzling, and the scourge of many teenage environmentalists, but it’s fast, looks cool, and heck loads of fun.

All Chrysler interiors looked like that from the early 2000's until the early 2010's 😂 I actually appreciated the simplicity in the designs until I actually had to touch something and was greeted with 80's quality cheapness. But they still had charm somehow, like the old Chevy Chevette death trap I bought as a first car that had zero redeeming qualities but was rear wheel drive so could do 360 spins in the snow even with just a gerbil on a wheel under the hood.
