Good vid, love the stationary camera especially. Tip to Ducati clutch mods, use the 2012-on actuating cylinder and new type push rod with cross pin. Stops the rod rotating with the pressure plate causing havoc with the cylinder.

Good job and very pretty bike. When pressing in metal parts, try using a different metal. Kinda like brass, or a piece of pvc. It could save ya some problems.

The more teeth, the more the load is spread across a larger surface. Should make for smoother shifting and lever action. I wish we could come across bikes like that in Canada for the price you got that one for.

great video :) you did however made a small mistake... you didn't align the metal clutch rings, they have a small mark on them, and you need to align it according to one of the six front bolts... at least when you are assembling a normal clutch, dunno if it is mandatory with a slipper one...

Hi Scot, I'm in Kansas (KC metro area). I haven't taken on other's projects before, but have done some project consultation and part list construction. If that's something you're interested in, shoot me an email at usedbikereviews@gmail.com. Thanks for watching!

You've made a very enjoyable series of videos, especially interesting to me, a former owner of a beautiful red 1198 SP. It was a mistake to sell it, but maybe it was too much for a man my age. Here's a dumb question which I have a hard time finding an answer to. Oil leaking onto a car clutch results in slipping and requires repair, yet most modern motorcycles have clutches bathed in oil. I believe that Ducati has also gone to wet clutches. Why don't they constantly slip, since oil is meant to reduce friction to a minimum?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and for the comment. Wet clutches rely on oil specifically formulated for wet-clutch motorcycles. These oils don't have friction modifiers, and that aspect mixed with the wet clutch pack's friction material, prevent it from slipping.

What's the marker pen you use for indicating the bolt heads? I bought some stuff in a tube, you can't draw it on, it goes everywhere... Need something better. Thanks.

Thanks for that demo. Does the new clutch affect the feel at the lever much?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 жыл бұрын
The pull is a bit lighter, but the main difference is on high engine speed downshifts. If the slip is engaged, the lever won't bounce back immediately until the slipper is done slipping.

Do you think it would solve my problem with clutch slippage? I replaced one of the 2mm spacer with a 1 mm spacer, as recommended by many people, slippage partially stopped but now I can't find neutral. This is on a 998, let me know what you think. Thanks
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 жыл бұрын
Changing the clutch pack stack height will help fix slippage, although making the stack taller (i.e. installing a thicker plate) I would think should stop it slipping, not installing a thinner plate. Difficulty finding neutral is typically down to 1) the clutch system has air in and needs to be bled, or 2) the clutch basket is heavily worn/grooved and causing the clutch plates to bind and not fully release.

The ball ramp/spider design slipper clutch are inferior compare to the EVR CTS or CNC Master Tech slipper Clutch, additional wear and tear where the little ball bearing slides/rides on the ramp area and require periodic regrease around that area.

Do you think that after all these upgrades, this is the ultimate 2-cylinder Ducati?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 жыл бұрын
I really do think so. I've ridden a 1299 Panigale S, and while it is an amazing machine, you can never really tell if the bike is giving you all the power and performance it has to offer because of all the electronic safeguards. With this 1198, there is no doubt what the bike is doing and what it is capable of, and I find that to be a more enjoyable experience.

Did you use anti-seize to lubricate the ramps? If you did you probably shouldn't. Anti-seize actually contains metal particulate and is technically an abrasive.
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 жыл бұрын
I used Loctite moly paste since the clutch instructions just said "grease here" without an actual recommended type. I've successfully used moly paste on many metal to metal sliding surfaces with no ill effects.

@@PracticalEnthusiast oh ok. Moly paste is excellent. It just looked like anti-seize in the video.
