Thanks for posting this! I had trouble getting to the top 13mm nuts from the underside, even after rotating the compressor as much as possible. Just a few notes from my experience with my 2009 F150 FX4: 1. I detached the inner wheel well liner like you did, but ended up not being able to do anything through that area. 2. FX4 will also require removal of the skid plate. 3. The top two 13mm nuts were challenging to access from underneath, even after rotating the unmounted compressor as much as possible. In fact, I had to use a flex-head ratchet to access the first one... and then I noticed the top nuts were accessible from above, directly behind the battery using a socket wrench with 18-in extension and deep 13mm socket. 4. I will never do this again!

GREAT VIDEO!!! Did the same way, Ford never makes it easy, lol. it's 32mm on the rack & pinion side and 27mm in a front bolt. And, yes-top bolt MUST be in the compressor before installation.

Would you happen to know where the a c pressure switch is located ? I just put in a new a c compressor but its cycling on and off believe it could be the the pressure switch.

@@lizardjump995 Hello Dear Lizard Jump, I am a bit behind on this KZbin interface and what it is exactly that I am able to do with it... if that makes any sense. With that said, I am pleasantly surprised that I received a response from you about my comment. So, thank you very much. I was wondering how to contact you to ask a few questions of you. Would it be ok to ask you for a detailed tutorial? I would be willing to offer you a donation for the information. Please let me know. I would really appreciate it. Thank you and hope to hear from you.

Mine may be a little different, but I went out through the front, by the fan shroud. Just a little twisting and turning and it came right out. New one went in the same way. The 5.4L engine may be harder, not sure. 2009 F150 4.6L 2v.
@lizardjump9955 жыл бұрын
Brian Swann The truck I was working on was a 4WD and I’m not sure if the 4.6L is situated differently. If yours was removed from the front without much difficulty then that was probably the best way to complete the job. Thanks for commenting!

Soe here is how it went with mine 2007 5.4 liter: 1. the top 10 mm screw was super tight. I had to buy an Ingersoll-rand low profile angle impact wrench wich has 2 inch head thickness and paired it with a 10mm low profile impact socket (Amazon) 2. Then I removed the screws from the compressor and twisted it 10-15 degrees to the right (looking from the front) 3. that made the feeder line nuts (13mm) visible from the top so that you can put on a 3/8 ratchet with extensions and a 13mm deep socket. This is a two man job as one has top twist the compressor and the second one has to ratchet from the top. 4. Once one line was off do the same with the second. 5. remove connector and loosen the wire 6. tuck the fan shroud to the top and remove the big white fan (4x10 mm screws) 7. tuck the dryer line behind the metal fan center piece and the other line upwatds toward the exhaust manifold 8. now you can easily take the compressor out. Plenty of room 9. Assemble backwards. No need to take the wheel or the wheel well off. I had mine on ramps.

Thinking about doing this on my 07 F150 how long did it take you?

If you don’t have issues with the screw as I had I would say 3-4 hours.

Great video! Thank you. Would you happen to know what the torque specs would be on the 3 10mm compressor mount bolts? And also for the A/C lines on the compressor? Thank you.

Thanks for watching! Sorry, I can’t remember the specs but you should be able to look that up on line.

Making vehicles for over 100 years and still can't get it right. No one should be allowed to design a vehicle unless they spend at least a quarter of their time in a shop repairing and servicing the components they design. If they actually had to touch a real object and not a virtual cad design I bet servicing would become a lot easier.
@lizardjump9955 жыл бұрын
39knights I agree with you 100%! I worked for 20 years as a diesel/transport refrigeration technician and I always said that after college an engineer should work as a mechanic for 5 years in the field before designing vehicles. Things would probably be considerably easier to access and service!
@lorenzomaximo18185 жыл бұрын
They don't want to design easy to work on vehicles. They want you to have to take them into a dealer or replacement shop. Thats how they make tons of your hard earned money.

The easiest way to remove this compressor is to first remove the fan shroud and and the fan. Remove the line from the condenser that has the orfice tube and remove the the line from the accumulator drier. Remove three bolts from compressor and pull compressor forward and disconnect the lines from compressor. That's less than 30 mins

What were the symptoms of the compressor?
@lizardjump9952 жыл бұрын
The compressor had internal damage. The clutch would engage but the shaft was broken internally. The suction and discharge pressures remained equal on the gauges when the clutch was engaged and engine running. Thanks for watching!

Why did u change the compressor? Was it due to the A/C not blowing cold air or not as cold as it use to? Reason I ask is because I've noticed on my F150, the air is not as cold as it use to. If I'm idling for a bit, the air is not as cold, but one I get going, it improves.....Thx in advance....
@lizardjump9954 жыл бұрын
The compressor was locked up completely on mine. If yours is not cooling as good at idle as it is going down the road you might want to check the cooling fan or check to be sure the radiator and condenser fins are clean from debris. If the cooling fan isn’t operating then it will not cool at idle but will cool when driving down the road.

How did you flush system
@lizardjump9955 жыл бұрын
Jeff Magee sr I have an old Mastercool flush bottle that I used to backflush the lines, evaporator and condenser. The flush fluid is placed in the bottle then compressed air forces the flush through the system. There are a number of kits out there that operate on the same principle. Next time I do a compressor job I’m going to post the procedure.
