How to change the two serpentine accessory belts. Some models may have a pivot bolt that requires loosening to allow the alternator to move freely.

I've read a few of the comments below. These people's angry complaining can be tempered with the fact that none of them have posted a video of their own, let alone a "better" one to correct your human oversight. No matter, thanks for saving a duffer like me an expensive trip to the mechanic. I had a squeaky accessory belt and all that had happened was my tension bolt had come loose. I tightened it up and the problem was solved. Those doinks at the shop would have charged me $100 for literally 2 minutes of labor. Thanks again!

Great video, always helps to research a job before you start it, I wasn't sure about how to tackle the A/C tensioner, but thanks to you it will be a breeze, nice idea going through the wheel arch as well. Thanks

Thank you, good info and comments regarding third bolt on alternator. Keep them coming.

There is a third bolt under the alternator. If you go underneath the vehicle, you will see it beside the oil filter. Loosen that up a few turns, and gently tap the alternator tangent to the path of rotation about that bolt and that should loosen it up.

How much should I pay for this two belt job from a good mechanic that works out of his house? I will pay for and supply the belts. Thank you.

Should the tensioner for the AC belt spin with the belt at all or should the belt "gently" move over it while it sits? Did one last night and the belt started to smoke so figured we either did it too tight causing friction or that the pulley wasn't spinning with the belt.

Hey, do you know the torque specs on the tension pulley bolt. I sheared mine off now have to replace the pulley. I don't want to do it again.

My Elantra squeaks really loud when you first start it, the sound settles after a couple minutes. Also, it squeaks when I turn on the A/C. Do you know what could be my problem?
@D12Diesel8 жыл бұрын
Hi. Sounds like your belt is either not tight enough or worn out. Other possibility is that the pulley is turning with too much resistance causing the belt to slip which creates that noise. I would start by changing the belt though.

I've throughly loosened the nuts on the alternator but it won't budge... Any advice?
@D12Diesel8 жыл бұрын
There is nothing else holding the alternator from moving. Once the two bolts are loosened you should be able to move it. It may require some force if it seized itself in place over the years.

There is a pivot bolt at the very bottom of the alternator that needs to be loosened to facilitate loosening/pivoting the alternator to slip off the belt.

I got both belts replaced last year. Ac belt is gone. Is this normal?
@D12Diesel6 жыл бұрын
No it should not have failed again so quickly. It is possible that it was a faulty belt. Possibly, your A/C compressor is seizing up and the belt was sliding and burning over the A/C pulley. Its hard to identify the problem without being there.

hey fella, you forgot to tell us about the bottom bolt on the alternator which must be loosened to move the alternator, the hub bolt. clown, you cost me quite a bit of aggravation, if you're going to put stuff on the internet please know what you're talking about, it's misinformation from people like you that cause internets bad rep.
@D12Diesel6 жыл бұрын
The pivot bolt does not always have to be loosened to move the alternator up or down and in my case it did not need to be. Perhaps I should have mentioned it in the video, though logic should have suggested to you that there will be a pivot place that may be seized up holding the alternator in place still.

Ya I know. He said it would lift up very easily. Just saying.
