Good job, excpet I would recommend adding a step. Use a wire brush to remove the rust from the axle around the mounting bolts and use some anti-seize on the mounting surface.

Impact screwdriver is the best bet for those screws. If you strip them you will be drilling them out. For really rusty ones you may need a torch. Put anti seize on screws before reinstalling.

Great video with good placement of camera and step by step verbal instructions. You did forgot to put grease on the outer parts of the pads so this car will eventually develop squeaky brakes from the metal to metal contact between the caliper and the backs of the brake pads.

Hi just replacing pads I pushed piston in as far as I could with same tool as yours but having problems getting caliper over pads in fact whom on front pad came off when pounding caliper in place ..do I need to bleed fluid? Piston seems all the way in however the rubber is crunched up a little ....help!!!!
@HelpingHandAutoRepair
@HelpingHandAutoRepair 4 жыл бұрын
The rubber will crinkle up. That’s normal. Sometimes the caliper can be difficult to get over the pads just right. Unless there is a wrong part installed, the caliper should slide back over the pads without much difficulty. Make sure to seat the rotor completely onto the hub and use a lug nut to hold the rotor straight. Then put the pads into place and squeeze them firmly onto the rotor surface. Then slide the caliper over the new pads. Make sure you use an old pad to provide EVEN pressure when pushing the piston back into the caliper.

Would you need to bleed the brakes after ?

Nope. If you follow the video that is. If for some reason you open the bleed valves, then yes you will need to bleed the brakes.

@@HelpingHandAutoRepair the reason is if they'd bleed the valve is because its gonna be easier to compress the piston by hand 👍🏻

I don’t have a video unfortunately. Your are correct though. It will be the same process with the exception of the caliper bolts possibly being a smaller size. When you put the car in the air on jack stands. Leave the e brake off. This will help you get the rear caliper off.

Great video, but when I was changing my 2014 Sonata front brakes, As I mash the caliper back into place, brake fluid started leaking from the top of the master cylinder, the top was on as tight as it could be, do you know what could have made that happen?
@HelpingHandAutoRepair
@HelpingHandAutoRepair 4 жыл бұрын
Vernon Doss Thisdoes happen and rare occasions. As you are pressing the caliper piston back in, the fluid is also being pushed back into the system and most of the time the reservoir will be able to hold the extra fluid being forced back up. Sometimes there is just a bit too much fluid and it spills out. Nothing to worry about. Just wipe up the mess.
@chuck7133
@chuck7133 4 жыл бұрын
Get a turkey baster from the dollar store and take a little brake fluid out of the master cylinder before you press the piston back in.

Your piston basically sticks out more as your brake pads get thinner. When you put new brake pads on, you would use a compressing tool to push the piston back into place (because the new brake pads will be thick of course). So it can be difficult to put the caliper back on the rotor if the piston sticking out like that. So if the caliper doesn't fit on, then you'll need to use a compression tool, otherwise it's not needed.
