2010 Dodge Journey not Starting - Gear Shifter hack

I have a 2010 Journey and this works. 👍👍👍 Yesterday, 9/12/23, I needed to move it just a little bit backwards and I’ve having issues with it so I can’t start it right now. I flipped the storage armrest up but no plastic plug. Then I thought maybe if I pull this catch all/ coin pocket rubber whatchamacallit out that is right behind the gear shifter then maybe it’s there. I believe some models have a full length armrest. Sure enough it was. The plastic tab was right there. I thought for sure it wasn’t this simple. You barely push it down but if your up hill or down hill then be ready to push on that brake pedal hard because there are no power brakes. 🫣 Yea it took me by surprise when I let off the brake pedal after putting it in neutral. **REMEMBER, there is no need to put a lot of downward pressure on that tab . 👍👍👍** Thanks for posting this. 🤙

Thank you for this video. My Dodge Journey been doing this for years. My son told me this what it was. Yet, Pep Boys told me they’d have to drop the transmission to get to the neutral safety switch.

It's the brake light switch. You don't have to pop the chrome trim off either. In the "loose change tray" right in front of the shifter is an access port. Pull out the plastic liner in the tray and then pop off the cap for the access port. It's square and black. You can't miss it. But yeah like dude said above me... Replace the brake light switch in the pedal.

Put foot on break, turn car to on(right b4 start) put in neutral, then crank. 100% works

Yes thats what we was doing before but since its for a new driver i thought ill fix before we give it to him.

Girl this video just helped me so much thank you! I’m still having issues when I drive and press the gas the dash lights flicker and the gear knobs are jerking like it’s trying to give out!!!

Its only a temporary fix though. I eventually went to the junk yard and replaced the entire gear shift box. It was pretty easy too. Make sure you have a good connection to your battery if the lights are flickering

@@madamevaughn1 actually it was my battery the whole time..! lol I got it replaced and it’s starting before I can turn the key now lol so In my case it was the battery going out! Thanks again boo!!!

It has a auto security system so it was stopping me from trying to drive it! Lol slick smart car wanna be lol

It was easier just to go to a junk yard and get the shifter for $20. I changed it myself and it took me like 30 minutes

That's crazy I did this today and it worked aftwr changing my battery. Any updates? Did it eventually need a mew starter ??

Tienes una mala colección de cables de batería i el motor de arranque no pasa sufíente carga el motor grande, tendrás que checar el Star, si si pega ose gastaron los dientes, si es así lo tendrás que cambiar i verificar vien las colecciones de la batería,.

Yes you can just throw it in neutral. It was better just to replace the shifter because those things just go out so i heard

@@yordiperez8680 es el safety neutral switch que esta mal. Me esta pasando el mismo con mi troka también.. aveces puedo prenderlo en neutral y aveces no . Me están cobrando 455$ para cambiar este safety neutral switch porque según esta al entro de transmisión.

Replace the brake light switch located on the brake peddle which signals the shifter interlock to let the car start snd release the shifter and it’ll fix this if it hasn’t been damaged worse by this “Hack”
