@MPI100 Jelzin 1985's point was that it's a sequential gearbox so you don't need a clutch. He's correct. The initial question didn't ask whether there are H pattern gearbox's that can operate in a similar way.

The clutch swithc sends a signal to pull back timing allowing to switch gears without breaking. The clutch does nothing else to the gear set. Dog gears are made to be shifted without a clutch because they dont have syncros. Also, pressing on the brake pedal allows the pads to be seated properly prior to a heavy braking turn and also removing any slack between the pad and rotor.

@jelzin1985 no, he doesn't need to use the clutch to shift down, but most drivers prefer it because it doesn't wear out the straight cut gears.

@WiseGuy02 No, um racers do that because it pushes the fluid in the hoses a bit more so they provide more braking power. :)

@MyBoogeryBooger Actually, it's because sometimes you get "pad knock off" where the brake pads get pushed back by the disc. It means that when you go to brake, the first part of the pedal application does nothing because it's just taking up that slack. Therefore when coming up for a big brake like at Fuji, they'll dab the brake to make sure the pedal will be firm and the pads will be in the correct spot, not a few millimetres from the disc!

@jelzin1985 sequential or not doesn't have to do with it. There are H-gated gearboxes (dog ring gearbox) that you can shift the same way as this sequential box. Most use a quickshifter that cuts ignition for a 1/10 second or so, so the gears are unloaded when you jam the shifter, though you can do it manually by just lifting the throttle a bit.

Would love to drive that. That whining sound aswell is just awsome :) Hopefully all my time using my steering wheel on video games will help in the future.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. What video system do you use to show the dash display? I would like to have the same setup in my 997 Cup car.

Never used a sequential gearbox, so I'm a bit curious, why wont he push the clutch all the time while switching down? Is he using the engine too to slow down the car?

why does he brake in main straight.?? a lil bit braking¡
@NerdonWheels9 жыл бұрын
+Claudia Jara That's to prep the hydraulics, so that when he steps on it for good, the brake pedal bites harder.
@RallyVozac7 жыл бұрын
Not really, he does that to warn the one behind him that he should get out of his slipstream cause he is going to brake hard for the corner. Or it can just be a trick to misinform your opponent that you are going to brake but actually you leave him behind.

@saadatorama11 жыл бұрын
Shirfy - he is using the clutch almost 200% of the time while downshifting. Down on most sequential gearboxes is up a gear.. Dog gears can be shifted without a clutch as they don't have synchros

i wish more people, especially women, would be more courteous and wave thanks like he did on 2:25 . I can't stop doing it, its classy as hell. "sorry about that, thanks for not being a dick about it" or "I usually don't drive like this but I really have to poop!, don't take it personally."
