Thanks for an excellent tutorial. Bought my part on eBay for 16 bucks and installed it in 20 minutes thanks to your detailed and crystal clear instructions. Saved me almost 400 dollars! Greatly appreciate the excellent quality of instruction and filming.

Thank you so much. Would be really expensive if I had to pay for labor cost. The clock spring is very pricey. The time and effort to record and share this with all the people that without this video would not know how to correctly do this is greatly appreciated.

DEaler would charge 1hr of labor for this plus retail on the part.

Check recalls online for your model and year. Mine is being replaced at no cost by the dealer. Along with 3 other recalls.

Thank you for this great video. I have to admit that I did not watch it all the way through at first and I was also thrown by the extra connector for the steering sensor.

My sister-in-law thinks the horn is a necessity. I don't think so. But regardless, it is now fixed thanks to your video!

Thank you for such an excellent video. We are super impressed with the care and clarity that went into making this. My horn is doing the same thing as yours. I am ready to order the clocks spring and follow your lead. But wanted to get your opinion. Is there any way that the following cancels out the clock spring as the issue: If we turn the steering wheel to 10 or 2 o'clock, the horn WILL sound - not consistently necessarily. But for all practical purposes - we have no horn. The panic button on the FOB on the other hand does sound the horn.

I started hearing a rattling noise from the clock spring area even if I am driving straight. I am going to take each part off from the steering as you showed and figure out the cause.

Thanks for the great video! Did the replacement ...but it did not fix the horn :-(. I have a 2012 Highlander Limited. Bought the cheaper aftermarket clock spring. My horn only was the only thing not working. Everything else on the steering wheel worked fine before and after the clock spring replacement . The horn did and still does work from the key fob alarm button. (So not fuse/relay.) Not sure what else to check? I agree it would unlikely be the airbag/horn front cover unit (as rarely used). But not sure what else to check? Any ideas?

Wear a wrist strap around your wrist and connected to a bare spot on the door frame. A stray static charge can set off the airbag - you want to be grounded. And DISCONNECT the negative on the battery.

One caveat: there's an extra security horn on my 2012 Highlander w keyless fob v6. So the panic button honked, but the regular horns were actually disconnected. Since I thought the horns worked, it sent me down a rabbit hole of clockspring replacement. Per this video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqWUpGmontSEq7s you can test the clockspring by bypassing it by grounding the appropriate colored pin (check a manual, mine was yellow) in the connector plug that plugs into the bottom of the clockspring. If you remove the air bag screws, you can just take the ground wire off and touch it to the steering wheel metal to test the connection in the horn switch, which is really just the frame grounding out when you push on the air bag.

My 08 Highlander limited hybrid, my cruise control doesn't work anymore. Fuses and fine, no error codes. Someone told me he had the same issue and replacing this fixed the issue. Beside the horn, do you think this clockspring replacement will fix my cruise?
@mikebroderick1708 Жыл бұрын
I would say yes, the clockspring ribbon cable (that breaks) connects everything on the steering wheel. So a broken cable would likely break multiple controls on the steering wheel.

Thank you for posting this. I was able to finally get me wife's 2008 Highlander horn fixed. It would've come in handy recently on the highway when another vehicle wasn't paying attention and cut us off when merging swiftly into our lane! My instant reaction was to lay into the horn but it didn't work and the other driver I don't think ever knew what he/she did. This vid also came in handy where the guy shows the part dissected. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmeVmq2fa712nqs God Bless.
