i was confused for a second when you unplugged the abs module. i thought that was the culprit. but you worked your way upstream of the system unplugging the next module in line. nice work. but ifi had the schematic to look at longer i wouldnt of got confused.

Thanks for the comment Phil. I am always trying to keep the videos as short and to the point as possible as not to loose viewer interest. Do you think that more time of diagram on screen or talking about how I interpreted how the circuit works would be good in the future?

Thank you good information I'm going to check that ground get the car up in the air on the hoist and check the engine ground I just clean the battery terminals up and I just clean the ground cable from the battery to the frame of the vehicle

Excellent practical demonstration. I had always thought there were only two 120 ohm CAN resistors in parallel, giving 60 ohms when measured at the DLC. To my surprise, in the schematic shown at 4:13, there is a 120 ohm resistor inside the DLC itself (on top of the one shown in the Diff control module and the ECM)! Hmmm, that's confusing. Is that resistor inside the DLC out of the circuit when you measure resistance from a breakout box? Do you still normally get 60 ohms if you measure at other CAN tap points, say at a (still connected) module somewhere else?

Good observation. If you look closely you will see on the schematic in little boxes in those circuits saying -MH8 or MH8 (I think MH8 or MH6 hard to see in video I even looked up schematic and hard to see there as well). The vehicle has one or the other so still just 2 120 Ω resistors on this Bus. So if this vehicle does not have a rear diff module one of the 120 Ω resistors will be all by itself. Note usually the stand alone resistor when equipped will be near the optional module that it is in place of, however there are exceptions, always consult SI. Would it be helpful if I do a video on wiring diagrams?

@@BrianMann216 Brian, thanks for the response! I get dealer repair manuals for all the vehicles I work on, but the communication networks are often not discussed in enough detail to help with repair. Presumably dealers have other documents that explain those connections more fully, but I haven't been able to find any of those. Thanks for your video like this one! Well explained communication diagnostics, like shown here, here are gold. Dave

Good job. Question, how did that bad ground make the can bus signal high voltage?
@BrianMann216
@BrianMann216 5 жыл бұрын
The chips within modules are provided voltage , powers and grounds that is , from the module it self. If the low reference (ground) for the module is high, all the low refreences for the vehicle will higher than they should. IE a old school GM PCM can have a bad ground and still communicate , however sensors on the 5v reference will all read higher than they should. Everything can get skewed.

@Brian Mann I really enjoyed the video I’m a student at a tech school to become an auto technician but in my spare time for extra money I run a tiny shop. I recently done an engine swap on a traverse and run into the same issues. Wiggle the same wires and was wondering if you can give me an idea of witch ground solved your issue and where is it at. It would be much appreciated. Thanks.
