The Hayes also has a unique grip design that makes it almost impossible to get a mag stuck on reload. It somehow guides the mag in and straightens it out. Given how easy it is to lose a lot of time fumbling a reload, this is a huge feature.

You are introducing me to so many new guns. I think I don't want the Staccatto anymore. I wanted it because it's what everyone else has but if you say the Platypus I'm getting is almost as good as a Stacatto, I might as well get another gun. I really like the Hayes custom. @@jimbobborg22 was just reviewing and rating double stack 1911’s that you generally can’t ever find at a “gun store”. As far as comparing them, I am giving them a score in each category compared to ALL pistols I have ever shot. Not just other 2011’s or race guns. For the sake of telling the viewers why one gets a certain score, it just helps sometimes to say “the 2311 doesn’t have a perfect trigger like this race gun, so it gets xyz score instead of a 10/10”. Sorry for any confusion.

BTW, I have no idea where you are located, but one of my local gun stores, which is also a range and a gym, is a stocking Staccato dealer and has three OA 2311s in stock, plus it has a few Atlas pistols in stock. They have for rent several of the Staccato pistols if you want to try them out. I have not personally shot the Staccato C, I have shot the XL, which is exactly like my STI DVC 3-gun. I also have the original STI Staccato (single stack) before the name change. I have no complaints with either pistol. And on a side note, I do have an SVI Infinity limited gun. Not flexing, just letting you know my experience.

@@jimbobborg22 Woah! can you actually rent an Atlas or just the Staccato's? I'm in Colorado and there are a few ranges that have Staccatos you can rent but nothing like the 2311's or "custom" 2011's. I'm glad they have 3 of the OA 2311's in stock, that means they might be gaining traction? Scheels in Colorado Springs does usually stock a couple Atlas pistols here and there, but you obviously can't rent them to try but you can at least get a feel for the ergo's that way.

They're using the rentals to sell pistols, which I think it is a good strategy. Yes, they carry Atlas and Staccato, as well as a few other more expensive pistols.

@@kevf500 zero worries. There are a lot of 2011’s that have the aluminum grips. MPA DS9 hybrid comes to mind and I know several guys that run those in limited optics. They wanted a lighter grip and the price is easier on the wallet.

I actually really like this video. Thank you. Yes, the other commenters are correct that technically the only 2011 is Staccato. but I totally get what you’re saying. As the producer you get to compare whatever guns you feel like. Let’s all move on. I own the Athena and the Erebus. I actually had my Erebus trigger tuned so it has an even shorter reset and it’s down to 1.5 pounds. Super short reset. I put the brass plates on the grip to make it heavier and it’s even lighter shooting them before. My friend, who has super fast split times has shot a bill drill at 7 yards with it at 1.22 seconds from the holster. It’s a beast. I have the atlas case and I have never used it. The reason is I never go to the range with only a single pistol so I have a multi pistol case. I’ve never shot or even seen a Hayes custom in person. They are a very low production custom shop. These represent the very top of the pyramid in the class. Whether the individual shooter has the capability to take advantage of it is a whole different story.

So glad to see someone making a HIGH END/Custom comparison and NOT include Staccato. Staccatos are fucking awesome, but they are, just as you said, mass produced production line guns. And yes, the Platypus is superior to the Staccato and I’m not factoring in price. Fanboys heads are gonna explode, and I was a bit of a fanboy when I paid for my Staccato, but my Platypus is so much better. Slicker, smoother, with a crisper trigger and far better slide to frame fit. And Stacatto can stop making us pay $100 for a damn optics plate or for a flat trigger shoe when you’re paying minimum $2600 and still don’t get enough mags. It’s a ripoff now.

They've become much more popular in the last year and orders have skyrocketed via vendors like Kovert and Modern Warriors. A year ago the wait for one of their semi customs was 4 months, now you're looking at 10-12 months. Gotta go with the standard Cobra 5" island ported model.

Fun video. The Bul is all steel except for the grip. Love my Air. After a few thousand rounds my trigger is an almost too light 1lb 6oz. I also have a DS9. The Bul compares very well with it. It's a shame you couldn't add a DS9 into the mix. DS9 and Vudoos swim in the same price pool. Was the Hayes ported? Doesn't look it. Hayes is definitely on my list of guns I'd like.

I'm not a ported barrel fan, so it was nice to get a look at a Hayes I may actually order. (Altho TBH, I may end up with a new or used Atlas since they're readily available without wait times and the older I get, the less I want to wait a year or whatever for a gun 🤷🏻‍♂️). As for the Air trigger, yeah, trigger discipline is a must 😬. I should probably increase the pull weight a bit but it's so much fun. 😁

I know there are a lot of people that hate that the finish is cerakote. For me that isn't a deal breaker at all for the price you can get a priest for. The pistol works amazing and I don't really care if using the gun a lot causes the finish to wear off. Gives it character for me, but for some, paying over $3k and it being cerakote is a deal breaker.

My, IK live just north of Hayes, Staccato, and Dawson Precision. Being old and on a fixed income now, I have to slum it with a Staccato C-2 for my EDC. My Custom Les Baer has become a little heavy for me. Which is an issue as an older White Man with the dreaded affliction of Lacoassius. ( Kinda embarrassing when your pants hit the ground around you ankles when putting groceries int eh car)! But make no mistake, the Staccato is no Les Baer. Not by a Country mile! Love your channel love your videos, but I think you definitely missed the mark on a few key topics in the video. The Vudoo has an issue for about 99% of us, it only comes cerakote, no DLC no Nitride,, should be the first thing that you mention. The Platypus and the Oracle arms were too poor choices for a video about higher-end 2011s. It's almost like you got paid a little bit by somebody to gush over the Platypus. Like I said I'm not a staccato fan or a Glock fan but the Platypus should not be in the mix. Most of us higher end gun buyers are laughing about the platypussy. It looks like it was made by Nerf.

I'm curious about the emphasis on finish material. I have guns with all the coatings mentioned and see absolutely no difference in function. I shoot 2 or 3 times a week (admittedly spread over a lot of pistols) and haven't seen any significant wear issues. I have seen Cerakote duty guns get holster wear on the finish, but that is a lot more abuse than most guns are ever going to get.

I have 4 staccatos and I have an atlas and a ck arms and bul. I would never buy a platypus. I shot two of them now and I think they are shi in my opinion. I would buy a staccato over them any day of the week. Don’t waste your money on a platypus they are to light the lock up isn’t good and cheap glock mags although cheap don’t drop worth a shi! 2011 mags are made of metal for a reason.

This video will confuse the hell out of people. It’s 100% opinion based. Calls the video a “2011” shootout without one 2011 in the video. That’s like saying “Glock” shootout and comparing a pile of striker guns but no Glock. Or a video called “best Kleenex” but that’s a brand on an item. Says the XC is not included because a comped gun doesn’t have a need for you but then you include an Erebus and talk about two comped guns you own. You didn’t show any of your groups and at the end of the day results matter not how the “recoil” feels. Very few people could shoot any of these or the dreaded “staccato” and do any better or worse. This is not informative at all. People need to go pick whatever they want and learn how to shoot. You are implying you can buy skill. Is that true? Can you buy skill?

@@AverageCompetitionShooter thanks for stopping by to comment my friend! We did hash out the whole 2011 thing in another comment thread also. I don’t own the Erebus and I was explaining why I don’t have a need in the competition world for a comp’d gun as I don’t shoot open. And you are correct, this is subjective in a way, but we do provide the high speed footage and the same grip is applied across all pistols. So that could help with an idea of how it may translate for others. I simply don’t have the time to change out the paper after every string, on every pistol, from each person to show you groups every time. The score isn’t counted or high speed isn’t used is any shots are outside the A zone at 7 yards. Sorry you get big mad for us calling these 2011’s. I will always call any double stack 1911 a 2011 because it’s just faster and easier. The added bonus of trolling people that get big mad about it is just the icing on the cake lol. Might start calling them clips instead of mags at my matches too hahah. Almost forgot. Never said you can buy skill?? Just showing which pistols I can run faster. Go train, go compete, run drills, that’s how you get better.

@@MountainRidgeShooters I’m not mad at all. There’s just so much of this same stuff on KZbin and social media. My point is it’s confusing people. To call a gun good or not (especially under rapid fire) is all about the results and reliability. Maybe shoot multiple types of ammo through them? Maybe set up a second camera on the targets? You were very specifically grading these pistols by your standards. You gave Atlas a 10 on craftsmanship and then immediately said Infinity probably does it better. So do they get an 11/10? Now someone might go out and get a gun that’s very ammo picky because of very tight tolerances and then be pissed and sell it and lose a bunch of money. I’ve owned an Erebus and sold it because in my opinion the XC is just as good. That Erebus isn’t worth two XC by any stretch of the imagination. I also got rid of my Athena and I now use an XL. I like it better. That doesn’t mean it is but I prefer the way it shoots.

@@AverageCompetitionShooter we did talk about ammo not working in the Erebus. We specifically say this is rating on what we have the ability to test. I would agree that an Erebus isn’t 2x better than a XC but I have also stated in multiple videos that the Athena isn’t 4x better than a shadow 2 either. That was the entire point of the “value” category. But a good idea on a target can. I can set that up for future videos

It’s just like I stated before with all these expensive “2011s” popping up I’d like to see people doing more detailed reviews. After all the cost is ridiculously high compared to an average pistol.

Platypus is not a 2011.....it's a double stack 1911. 2011s are 3 piece design polymer grip metal frame metal slide. Platypus is 2 piece hence 1911

Huh? When did I say a Platypus is as good as an Atlas, it literally scored lower. The Platypus DOES beat Atlas on the price category though... And yes, I own a Toyota too (I was a mechanic for years and understand quality per dollar). The price category is more like "best bang for the buck" kind of scoring.
