I did my gearbox change yesterday and the box is muncher bigger than the one in this video. There’s no way you would lift it off like you did in the video. Neither can you swing it around in the gap between the subframe and underside of the chassis… it’s too deep. I was working in a very small gap between the engine and gearbox once split. That small I couldnt fit my clutch alignment tool on the plate and cover and then fit it in the gap. If I was doing it again I would make a plate for my jack and chock up the gearbox to keep it level when taking it on and off. The subframe would also need to come off totally to give you access into the clutch flywheel . It caught me out really and once I’d started there were no going back. I’ve taken many gearboxes out of many vehicles so no novice but this one wasn’t easy following this video. Do you have a video of you showing you removing a 6 speed gearbox in this way? If so I would love to see it. If you do actually lift it up yourself you should be entering yourself into the Worlds Strongest Man😎

@WMCS4 жыл бұрын
Hi 🍻✨✨.,, as far as I’m aware all VAG engines unless it’s an Sports Line.,, DMF starts at 1.9.,, so your one should be a solid flywheel
@gentledensityforfairfield64423 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin-Albert, After watching your video for the third time(!!) I have a couple of questions; #1,Why do you undo the single nut on the taper spindle of the ball joint to the control arm, rather than removing the two threesquare socket bolts that hold the ball joint to the spindle? #2, It appears that you undo the bolts on the front cross section of the subframe, and the two large washered, rubber mount bolts on the left but not the two on the right; is this correct? Essentially you let the left side of the subframe hang down to gain clearance for pulling the transmission back, yes/no? #3 What grease do you use on the clutch splines? VW gives a service number in their manual that has no connection to grade/specs on this side of the pond. Normally North American clutch kits come with a vial of specific spline grease, but none was included in the LUK kit I received from UK. #4 The VW manual specifies using new bolts on the flywheel and pressure plate. Have you found this necessary or just more VW overkill? Lastly, for now; do you find the 130 hp. diesels suffer less from the strain of the engine torque on the DMF than you have seen on the 174 HP versions? Is there any general driving technique you would offer to help postpone/prevent replacement of these DMF units? I agree that the likelyhood is that they are under-engineered for the power/weight factors of the vehicle - a VW engineering miscalculation. My apologies for the too many questions. No one here has ever seen a T5. Doug (Lonely Cali in BC)
@WMCS3 жыл бұрын
Hey Doug 🍻 1. It’s a lot easier to just pull down the lower suspension arm that way. The method you’ve mentioned will involve a bit more time aligning the two bolts back in place ., which can sometimes cross thread. 2. Yes exactly that ., but there are times when I’ve had to slacken the other side but not remove it fully just for a little bit more drop on the subframe if the gearbox needs coming out fully. 3. I always use red rubber grease. As it doesn’t disintegrate and clump up as some other grease. Which in return causes the clutch to bind with dust over time. Causing clutch drag. 4. Always use new bolts. As they are stretch bolts. If re used there’s always the possibility of it snapping under torque. 5. General advice for prolonging the DMF life ., avoid leaving clutch pedal depressed and in gear ie: when at a standstill at traffic lights or in traffic. Because the pressure plate will be continuously pulling on the top plate of the DMF to allow the clutch to be disengaged. They are designed to be released after straight after gear change. Yes the do suffer less unless it has the stop/start technology then the DMF is a lot more robust.

Why did u take the bolt out wishbone could just simply take the two bolts out the strut and remove driveshaft alot easier also don't use a impact gun to remove a gearbox drainplug that's one way to crack it and same putting back in also the driveshaft bolts are meant to be replaced as they are stretch bolts
