His body was going into Shock. It's not an overreaction, just naturally happens, and he had no control over it. Blood pressure suddenly drops dangerously low, dizziness, fainting. I witnessed a guy slam his little finger in a door, then pass out. Ouch!

I dropped about 200lbs of concrete on my middle finger, smashed it hard enough that the skin ripped and flesh slipped out. I blacked out from that as well. Post-injury shock for sure.

Same exact thing happened when I broke my arm. At first, I didn't notice it. Then, it sent me directly into shock. Without folks around me knowing to keep me awake, I would have most assuredly passed out.

To the people criticizing the coach and trainer for not letting him fall, you have no idea what you're talking about. Yes, if someone is passing out you want to lie them on the ground. But you do not just let them crumple to the ground. The coach and trainer did it right. They slowly lowered him down, so they could be sure he wouldn't hit his head or his already fractured arm.
@peteandrepete5286 жыл бұрын
Bob Jones.I don't understand it either .The coach and the trainer absolutely done the right thing and so would the complainers if they were there witnessing it.A lot of things could have went differently if they would've let him free fall.I'm sure the player was grateful that they were there to catch him.It's a scary feeling especially when you have no control on where you are going to land.Any one who has ever fainted knows what that feels like.

Vagal episode or vasovagal response or vasovagal attack (also called neurocardiogenic syncope) is a malaise mediated by the vagus nerve. I passed out once because I was exhausted and hit my elbow on a chair. Look it up.
@jessefireguy6 жыл бұрын
Frank Steen happens often. Pushing to hard is a cause as well.
@dhillskier7511 жыл бұрын
anyone interested why this happened, doesn't really have to do with pain tolerance so much. The body can respond to injury different ways depending on if it is superficial or a deep injury. Receptors for deep injuries are located in deep tissues, such as bone. So the massive impact of the ball sends a strong signal of a serious injury. To respond, the body lowers blood pressure to reduce blood loss. A strong enough reaction means you pass out.

I took an 85 mph to my bicep. It didn't break any bones but it left my arm dead for the entire day and split the skin about a half inch with a nice ball tattoo. Give the guy a break! He took it like a man, it just got to him. THAT FUKKKEN SHIT HURTS...

At 0:42 you can see the umpire looking into the dugout BEFORE Rhymes said he wanted to leave the game. The ump was looking at the dugout because he sensed the deep pain Rhymes was feeling and the ump was saying with his eye you gotta take him out of the game. He is in bad shape. His brain shut off to avoid the pain. That's why he passed out.

I remember when I was playing softball a fast pitch came in and I moved to get out of the way and I got hit on the elbow, hurt like crazy. My dad was recording it and in the video it shows the ball coming towards my ribs but once it hit my elbow their was a loud smack sound and my yelp. I got a dead arm instantly and a huge bruise, at first everyone who wasn’t paying attention thought it was a cat that meowed because of my yelp but the pain was horrible.

Not necessarily a fracture, as mentioned by the announcer. Passing out with pain, the introduction of high stress, the sight of blood, etc. is a very common response. Us medical professionals call it 'Vasovagal Syncope'. The heart rate drops, the BP drops, you get pale and sweaty. Interestingly enough, it often happens when you are straining to have a bowel movement. Usually you recover in just a few minutes. Occasionally, you pass out in the toilet bowl and drown. We call it, 'Pulling an Elvis'.

I just remember waking up with a soft cast on my arm.

Athletes have to learn their bodies so well - and if a man - they have to learn when to not "man up" and hide the pain. They can do themselves a huge disservice if they do. Did you hear the bat hit that ball? No. That was his arm that was hit by the ball. Sounded the same. But he walked it off - until his body said whoa and shut him down. When the body has to over ride the brain - the brain is voted out of control by the body and that is it. You have no more control. You lose consciousness and a whole new negotiated contract is being negotiated while you are not even present.

I've only felt something like this once in my life and it's fucking scary and it sucks. And I've put up with some pretty fucked up shit before. I was at wrestling training and my best friend caught me with a knee right to the jaw with his brace and broke my jaw in two places and it didn't knock me off my feet. I never sat down nothing. Completely fine. But I crushed the tip of my finger putting a massive wooden beam for one of the rings in place into an h brace, and my finger went into the brace with the beam and split the nail all the way across and it was literally dripping blood and that was probably one of the most painful things I've ever had to experience because it was the tip of my finger. And the nail. And I got so light-headed I had to sit down I thought I was legitimately going to pass out. I never did but it's insane that my jaw was broken in two places and I was completely fine but my fingertip was crushed and I almost lost consciousness. Crazy how the body works. I've probably given blood or gotten blood work done 20 or 30 times in my life and never had one issue either. I always get up and I drive home and that's it. No problem. The last time I got blood drawn and blood work done I almost passed out. It was so weird for me because I've never ever ever had a negative reaction to having blood drawn either in getting blood work or donating blood and we're talking dozens of times never one issue until that one time. Shit like this happens. This is a long time ago so I don't know what the injury ended up being but that was a pretty nasty ball off the arm
