5th Generation Toyota 4Runner - How To Install Upgraded Sway Bar End Links. This week we tackle upgrading the sway bar end links on our 2012 (5th Generation 4Runner). Our 4Runner has over 200k miles and the sway bar end links show it which we discovered after another modification we performed. We sought out some that would hopefully outperform OEM and we believe we found them. These are the forged sway bar end links by Overland Custom Design (link below).
With the increase mass on these bad boys, we're certain they will hold up to the abuse some of our trips will be sure to dish out.
Let us know your thoughts on this episode and the mod for the 4Runner.

If you watch close you can see the jaws of that open end wrench actually spread open under that torque. I just got done replacing the Mercedes end links and a few other goodies...future video. The adjustability of those links are pretty cool. Love watching the content!

Another missed comment. Ugh. Thank you for watching and sharing that little bit of insight. Of course you had the better view of the wrench so we appreciate you pointing that out. We definitely like these over the OEM. Hopefully they will last a long time. We appreciate the kind words and your support as well.

Whenever possible, its a good idea to use the box end of the wrench. It engages the nut at 6 points instead of 2. This is much less likely to strip the nut or snap the bolt. The box end looks weaker but it’s not (assuming quality tools). Even when you’re replacing the hardware a stripped bolt can be a real headache. Otherwise great video.

Hi Stepen. Thanks for watching, commenting and the kind words. I agree. Trust me, with the cars we work on (especially our 70 mustang), stripped bolts aren't something we enjoy dealing with but we have to tools to handle it when it happens.

Thanks for posting this. Im replacing mine tomorrow. 1 unrelated question, what bumper do you have on the front? I find the selection for these 2010-2012 models limited.

HI Adam. Thanks for watching and sharing the kind words. We really appreciate it. Good Luck with your upgrade. I'm sure you'll like them. Our bumper is actually a custom made one. I've had several folks ask me the same thing. It was made by a connection of the company that I bought the rig from so I don't know who it is but I wish I did so I could share it with everyone. Stay safe out there!

First thanks for the video - observation: you forgot to use the loctite, Questions: Why did you not do the rear? and how do you set the correct length if you have done a lift to your truck?
@SpiritedWrenchers
@SpiritedWrenchers Жыл бұрын
Hi gmen1305, thanks for watching and sharing with us. We greatly appreciate it. Thanks for calling that out on the loctite. We actually went back and took care of that afterwards realizing that we probably should have added some. To answer your question on why not the rear, we felt we wanted take care of the front first and we'll plan on going back to take care of the rear at some point this year. So many projects on only so much time and the front was more of a pressing need. For the length, we replicated what we had since the 4Runner was already lifted with the OEM's in place. Hope that helps and thanks once again.

Question - Is this upgrade a plug and play? Remove and replace? Do you have to get an alignment or anything like that post install?

Hi Rob. Thanks for watching and asking. We appreciate it. This is a simple remove and replace. No alignment is needed for these. Cheers!

HI Brett. Thanks for watching and asking. We greatly appreciate it. We currently aren't running the Duro Bumps but I've looked into them. They will likely be an upgrade that we do soon as well as replacing the rear sway bar end links. Cheers
