People need to understand that M5 and E63 are not 'overpriced' but over-TAXED. While they may be 30-40% more expensive than American cars in the US, American cars (and other imports) are just as expensive in Europe. For example, a Lexus LS460 is 60-70% more expensive in Europe than it is in the US. The base Ford Focus with the smallest engine in US is the model with the largest engine in Europe, and it costs 120% more than it does in the US. I would bet money that BMs and MBs have their price tags at their present level because of the absurd level of taxation in their production. I recall that France has a payroll tax of 70-80%. There are also mandatory benefit contributions that equal 100% of the salary. If it's my money, I would invest in Africa before considering doing business in the EU. Wonder why German cars have such abysmal reliability record? Money is saved where it can be - places you don't see. For example, whereas American and Japanese cars use plastic in the body panels and interior, Germans use plastic for gears, pumps, and shafts. Their cars are unreliable by design, just so you can keep paying them after the sale.

I'd prefer the M5 a worthy investment if you know how to take care of your car. Ive owned two GM cars and it gave me nothing but problems i bought a 2005 M3 a several years ago and lets just say for a used car I've never had any issues with it the car is about to hit the 200k mark never letting it go.. :)
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 жыл бұрын
Well for one things cars aren't investments at all, and for another depreciation is much worse on M5s than it is on CTS-Vs. GMC, Chevy and Cadillac are all higher than BMW on JD Power's initial quality rankings and have less problems per car than BMWs do. I'm glad you haven't had any issues with your BMW, but that is absolutely the exception and not the rule. This M5 has already had a recall so serious they had to completely stop production on the car and institute a sales freeze while they fixed it. It was causing the engines to blow up.
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 жыл бұрын
***** Actually investment does, SPECIFICALLY mean "in monetary terms". That's specifically what an investment is. And because the M5's depreciation is much worse than the CTS-V's, and because it costs $40k more than the CTS-V, the M5 is a much worse investment. And that's assumng you buy an M5 for investment reasons, which would be idiotic because they're not rare and they don't hold their value. And yes, JD Power is a reliable source. All their data comes from actual owners, and you just said that ownership is a reliable source of information. You just don't like what they have to say, so you call them unreliable. LOL? Way to contradict yourself there, buddy. Here's a hint: Next time research how JD Power gets their data before shooting yourself in the foot. And yes, I have a CTS-V, I drive it every day. No, I'm not making a video for you. Get over it.

@juanflores4225
@juanflores4225 9 жыл бұрын
Vernon Price and a corvette is a 105k why again?? Have you seen the cheap plastics they use to build a corvette? European cars use better materials and are more expensive because of production costs almost everything is hand built and the wages for those employees are way better than what americans make why? Because alot of employees own stakes in the company and actually have a say in what changes need to be made and how the production plant is ran. You dont have that in american cars unions got greedy and so did gm why do you think they needed the goverments help to stay afloat? Because they werent building the cars to effectively compete with european cars and japanese cars at that.

***** So you're biased and an idiot. Worse quality? Go look it up on JD Power where you will find BMW has FAR more quality issues than Cadillacs do. Worse ride comfort? The CTS-V has magneride, and the BMW doesn't. The ride is better in the Cadillac in both touring and sport modes, and the suspension is far more advanced. That's why they Ferrari 458 uses Magneride shocks, because they're the best. The CTS-V is more engaging to drive, the BMW is kind of boring. It doesn't feel as connected, the steering isn't as good, and the simple fact is that the M5 is a minimum $30k more than the CTS-V, and that's before you add any options. The CTS-V also does 11.7 @ 120 stock, so the M5 isn't actually faster either.

lets look at the price difference here (i'm not a big fan of either car) the BMW costs about $38,000 more. For what? BMWs are overpriced, it has a nicer interior but that's just because all cadillacs have bad interior. From a performance and driver standpoint the CTS-V is better.
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 жыл бұрын
I mostly agree, but not about the interior. The CTS-V's interior is actually very nice, and I prefer it over the M5's dull, spartan interior.
@mattphillips8644
@mattphillips8644 10 жыл бұрын
Vernon Price I'm not saying i'm a fan of BMW's interior (because i'm not), but the screen in the Cadillac doesn't always respond when you click it, and its a little bit annoying. The interior also doesn't feel very special. But Cadillac is on the right track, being an American I am impressed with how far the CTS-V has come and other American cars like the Corvette. The Cadillac is a great drivers car for the price. I like the Audi S6 and RS5 better than both of these cars though because those have great interior (especially the S6), and are very fast.
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 жыл бұрын
Matt Phillips Oh are you talking about CUE? The CTS-V doesn't have CUE, and the screen in mine works 100% perfectly every time I use it. You should know, though, that the CTS-V is both cheaper and faster than both the S6 and the RS5. You wouldn't believe how much faster the CTS-V is than the RS5. I've raced a couple of them, and it's not even close, they are just not in the same league as the CTS-V. It would be fine if they didn't also cost more than the CTS-V, I mean with 420 HP they should cost more like $50k, not $60-70k. The new Chevy SS sedan has the Corvette's LS3 V8 with 415 HP, and it starts at $45k, and it was built with GM's modern, lightweight good handling design philosophies, just like the C7.
@mattphillips8644
@mattphillips8644 10 жыл бұрын
Vernon Price The Cadillac's I've been in have an unimpressive interior. Your Cadillac isn't faster than the new S6... it goes 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. That blows away any Cadillac. The new RS5 is also definitely faster.
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 жыл бұрын
Matt Phillips I don't agree with that, at least if we're talking about modern Cadillacs. The recent ones like the new CTS and XTS have really nicely designed interiors, and the CTS-V is nicer than the M5's.

I like both cars, I have driven the older M5, and personally would have the Caddy over it, simply bc of the insane price difference. Not just the purchase price, though. To maintain the BMW is gonna be way more expensive than the V, plus 30K for a second quicker on a track, that it will probably never see. As much as I love M's I can't even get behind that.
@Stu282
@Stu282 10 жыл бұрын
This has got to be the worst comment feed currently on the internet if people seriously think the BMW costs more because of the interior you're wasting everyone's time. Speccing the M5 with that 10 year old 550i manual gearbox is a huge insult to BMW deliberately down speccing it to make it seem fair on the Caddy. If you're not gonna test the cars in their optimum state there's no point comparing them. The M5 was designed from the ground up to use the DCT unit. That manual is a cheap fix afterthought to suit the American market, a poor gearbox for a modern M car.
@Dgannt
@Dgannt 10 жыл бұрын
Exactly. You get what you pay for, allwyas. The M5 is a bit better everywhere and sums to a better overall car. It's never just a better interior. The materials used, built quality, the engine, how it delivers power, how it shifts and so on. It's a bit better in everything and that is whay you pay for. In Europe sometimes they compare Vauxhall VXR8 Tourer (Holden HSV) with M5 or Audi RS6. The last gen VXR8 has some 600 hp but it's still slower and does not have the same quality anywhere. You get what you pay for.
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 жыл бұрын
bezor Ta Not really. If the M5 is a "bit better" then it should cost a "bit more". But it doesn't, it costs $50k more than the CTS-V - almost TWICE AS MUCH - fort MARGINALLY better performance, if any. For C&D's Lightning Lap, two different CTS-Vs beat both the new M5 and the new M6, which indicates the M5 is not actually a better performer.
@Stu282
@Stu282 10 жыл бұрын
Vernon Price This isn't a race. Did you honestly think in your own head that for large executive 4 door sports saloons/sedans the price should reflect it's lap time on a racing track? Seriously? Like bezor Ta mentioned, Holden build 600bhp 5 seaters all the time. It wouldn't give them the right to give it an M5 price tag because the overall quality is so far inferior regardless of the extra power. When the M5 was launched it went straight to the top of its class and has pretty much stayed there. Nobody outside America deems the CTS-V even worthy of comparison, let alone a winner.
@vernonprice5986
@vernonprice5986 10 жыл бұрын
StuRaz Oh so price to performance isn't a thing in your world? It's a thing for people here in the real world. In fact it's one of the definitive factors of the word "value". When the CTS-V, the current version, launched, it took the M5 to school and left it there. That is what we like to call "a fact", and it is a fact REGARDLESS of who you think deems it worthy of comparison. That's the great thing about facts, they're not subject to your opinion. So when you have the CTS-V beating the M5's ass up and down the street in every performance category, and doing it for $40k less money while having the most advanced suspension in the world, real wood, Italian leather, suede, you really do have to ask the question: Why would I pay $40k more money for the M5?
@Dgannt
@Dgannt 10 жыл бұрын
Vernon Price When you make everything a bit better it adds to the total cost. It's that little last bit that is the expensive part that people pay extra for. May I also mention that US car prices, the famous best bang for your money, does not exist anywhere but in US. These Cadillacs cost as much and sometimes even more than BMW and Audi here in Europe and elsewhere. It's only US tax laws that makes demestic cars much cheaper than imports. The new Corvette with the Z51 pack that cost $60K in US cost $110K in Sweden and $100K in Germany. Now that US manufacturers realized cars need handling and want to compeat with Euro cars, they have kind of over done it. These are luxury sedans, build to travel at high speed on Aoutbahns, in best luxury and quality. They are not track cars otherwise they would build them for even better handling if they thought the owners of these cars would take them to track. And Cadillac actually does not beat this M5. The BMW has better engine, gearbox, quality and speed. Cadillac may seem to have good materials but build quality is not at par with Euro cars. The best measure for success is sales and while BMW, Audi and Mercedes are global successes, Cadillac only sales are in US, despite over 30 years of trying to make it in Europe. It's a great car, just not there yet.

dieselngoungou CTS-V: $64k. M5: $93,600 "actually". But of course a base M5 has no equipment on it, so you will end up adding $10-20k more to the price just from adding basic options because BMW gives you NOTHING for the base price. The CTS-V comes with almost everything fully loaded for the base price, the biggest option is the Recaro seats. Saying the price difference is $25k means you're bad at math. It's a MINIMUM of $30k, + $10-20k more when you add options that should be standard to the M5.
@hikeskool
@hikeskool 9 жыл бұрын
Vernon Price Yup, exactly. If you want the performance package (required to make the car feel anything but mute), decent brakes and full leather you are looking at an extra $20,000; "competition" package: $7,300, brakes: $9,250, full leather: $3,500. That takes the price up to $116,000 and that's without any other options.

The M5 and the E63 AMG are both overpriced for nothing. The CTS-V is priced right, but if you want a high-end performance car that's pretty hard to find and worth the money, then get a Jaguar XFR-RS. Jaguars are pretty high-end cars and they aren't mass-produced the way BMWs and Mercedes cars are. I can tell the difference between a car that's worth the money and a mass-produced car that just gets overhyped and slapped with a high price tag for nothing. Mercedes in Europe are taxi cabs.

***** plus a flash? What kind of bullshit comparison is that? First of all, the CTS-V is faster than the C63 stock to stock. By a LOT. CTS-Vs run 11.7 @ 120 completely stock. Second, CTS-Vs are cheaper than C63s. C63s START at $65k which is more than a CTS-V. And you want to compare modded to modded? $750 in parts gets you an upper pulley kit and an intake, which puts you at 620 HP or so. How much is that flash for the C63 again? And how much HP does it add again? Yeah. Just saying, the C63 is really not in the CTS-V's league.

As a proud owner of the STS-V, seeing the CTS-V at this point in time and seeing how far it has come from its days as the Catera (screech) Im glad to see it can compete with a legend such as the M5 or E Class AMG. Unfortunately I can't afford the new CTS-V so I beefed up my STS-V's Supercharged Northstar to 610 horsepower. Yeah the M5 is more luxurious than the CTS-V, but the CTS-V is much more fun to drive in my opinion.

Both cars I have been in was tested on radar gun from a friend of mine. The Bmw I had it at 161 mph and it took over 2 miles to sustain that speed. The cts-v I had it at 201 mph and it took 1.7 miles to reach. I don"t know about the 5% rule. But if it does apply the cts-v still out does the Bmw if the "real speed" was as much as 10% advanced. Anyway, the CTS-V I own and the Bmw I Ran for a friend , dropped off behind the CTS-V by 4 miles of the "Isolated"highway we were testing them on.

Personally I am a Mercedes guy and would have the E63, but I think that out of the options the CTS-V is the best looking. Also, I don't understand when people critisize the interior on the CTS. Personally I think the interiors on BMWs are terrible. I test drove a CTS-V once and the interior was fantastic. It was black leather with white stitching and it looked and felt great. Though if I was to get a V, it would be the wagon. I just love the thought of blowning the doors off a Porshe in a wagon.

The Cadillac CTS-V comes standard with premium imported Italian leather on both sides of the seats, door panels, and dashboard. The magnride suspension was choosen over BMW's for its superior handling characteristics. The styling is fresh and new and sleek too. The tester here actually LIKED the CTS-V MORE than the BMW but, was let down by the standard transmission which 90% of Cadillac owners would NOT choose on their cars. Cadillac is in the top 5 for dependability and safety too.

I can't wait until they do the 2015 CTS-V vs 2015 M5 comparo, the M5 should be face lifted by then. But damn the new CTS is a much sexier car than the new 5 series. And I'm a huge BMW fan. Congrats on that cadillac, I'm liking the direction GM is going in general. Its about time that Cadillac started to truly compete with the Germans and Japanese. Game on!

For people saying Cadillacs are for old people. You've gotta understand that comparing the CTS-V to other Cadillacs is stupid. The CTS-V is one of the fastest four-door, production cars on the Nurburgring (only being beaten by the Panamera Turbo and the WRX STi). That's still a pretty awesome effort.

The new CTS-V will clear all up. Test mules have wider tires. I pretty sure GM will put some track focus tires on it. The hp will be at or above 600. Hopefully the Vette auto 8 will come with it. The stick will be a option. The next battle should be epic.

It should be absurd. On the lighter Alpha platform this thing will move - we can hope for an LT4 (used in the new Z06) but it will probably be a new engine similar to how the LSA is a "detuned" version of the LS9. It will be exciting nonetheless.

Wow, this is the first time I've actually heard the F10 M5 make this fantastic induction sound. I had no idea it sounded this good. Mic positioning probably matters a lot because the lame exhaust note normally completely dominates the induction sound from the outside and inside, it's lame speakers playing the lame exhaust note.

Quality? BMW and Mercedes offer cheap vinyl seating, plastic dashboards and door panels whereas Cadillac offers premium imported Italian leather on both sides of the seats, dashboard, and door panels. Premium Italian suede is offered to cover the entire ceiling in the new Cadillac XTS Platinum Edition. Premium woods are used in the interior and/or genuine carbon fiber. The CUE system has been rated the best by the actual consumers too when compared to the competition.

I've read many many comments from Europeans saying " Americans can't make quality cars". Americans make plenty. . Thing is we make affordable cars for the masses. They say American cars can't go around corners. Well the zo6 and zr1 squashes that theory. Next complaint... build quality "cheap plastic exterior and interior" well the c7 and newer caddys are changing that. No matter what they will complain (not all but most) fact is our cars are built good and affordable.

Vernon, at first I want to say: The Cts-V is a good engeneered car with a fantastic engine and no "plastic-desert" (like normal in us-cars) inside. But the only racetrack, that really matters is the "Nordschleife" of the nurburgring. The cts-v was there. Please compare the results on racetrack and the number of sold cars worldwide. Between the M5 and the cts-V are 4 to 5 years of development. I really hope, the new cts-v will change everything and BMW is angry again :-).

The Panamera wasnt devoloped until recently and prior to that the porshe cayenne before that Porshe was about pure performance. Its a sad shame Acura and Infiniti arent in europe really because In America they are by far more reliable than Merces or BMW and are cheaper to maintain. I am sure you know about Lexus it is still the top most reliable automobile out of all of them. There are multitudes of Lexus's Infinitis and Acuras 20+ years old with over 300k miles running like they are new.

I suggest you base your opinions on experience and facts. Piping sound to the cabin is also done by several car makers. Not just BMW. The reason they did it is because the sound insulation of the 5 series is so good that you can barely hear the exhaust. The F10 M5 sounds really loud and mean from the outside. I own one. And too soft to be an M? I had an E60 M5 for 4 years. . This F10 is way better in every aspect. I hate to tell them detractors but this sounds meaner and louder than the V10.
