Hyundai's new Veloster certainly gets our vote as one of the most original vehicle designs introduced last year. The turbo model is definitely the one to get to match it's sporty looks. But for those looking for a sport compact hot hatch, there are better choices out there. Think of this vehicle as a fuel efficient commuter car that stands out from the crowd.

It's why I couldn't ever buy a daily commuter car; like a corrola, Prius, etc. Sure they are practical but they look very boring and have no personality. Where this car, it gets a lot of attention ( good or bad)

I have someone who has a 2015 Veloster and he has put over 100,000 km on the car and has had no issue at all. Other than changing the brakes and just doing his normal oil changes, his Veloster still feels amazing. I mean if your car is based off of an Accent, it’ll be reliable.

Seriously, I don't know why you opted for the base model of this car, considering the Style and Tech package is so much better. And again, you get a lot of things wrong about it. First of all, the Style Package adds more than the 18" ten-spoke wheels and fog lights. It also adds the upgraded bolstered leatherette seats (as well as padded leatherette door panels that replaces much of the hard touch ones found on the base), upgraded Dimension audio, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, alloy pedals, driver auto-up window, and the panoramic sunroof. The only thing the Tech package adds is the navigaion, the 115V AC outlet, automatic headlights, backup camera (which became standard across all Veloster models starting in 2014), the upgraded 18" alloy wheels with painted inserts, and the proximity key with push button start. I'm not sure how much research you actually do on the vehicles you review, but you obviously need to do better research if you're going to be completely accurate. Also, another thing to gripe on is why the hell did you choose the automatic transmission? That just sucks every single bit of fun right out the driving experience! The manual is so much better and actually makes you want to really drive this car (especially if you have the Style and Tech Package)! I know this because I actually own a 2012 Veloster...same color but with the Style and Tech package...and I enjoy mine immensely! I love mine to death and even though I have tried the Turbo (both regular and R-Spec...liking the R-Spec a hell of a lot better), I'm sticking to my non-turbo because it's given me a the driving experience I want!

Mostly, our main issue with a torsion beam rear suspension is ride quality. Anytime you hit a bump in this vehicle the entire rear end shakes around and since the roof is so low, taller drivers will slam their heads into the ceiling. The cheaper suspension also doesn't allow for good suspension travel during cornering. The vehicle will not corner as sharply as a vehicle with an IRS.

We didn't say there wasn't' a market for that because there is. We just want consumers who are car enthusiast to know that this vehicle is no hot hatch like a GTI, Speed3, or Focus ST. In fact, it doesn't even drive as nice as a regular compact car like a Golf, Focus, or Mazda3. It's technically a sub-compact car in this base form with the price of a compact car because of it's unique design and styling. That's ok for some buyers, but not ok for others.

Typical Hyundai positives, slick styling, plentiful features, strong warranty, and good value. We just think if Hyundai called this car the Accent hatchback or coupe our expectations wouldn't have been soo high in regards to performance.

We couldn't agree more. The only Hyundai that seems to have good steering response and offers a degree of fun to drive is the Genesis.

In our eyes, when a car is sporty looking on the outside we expect it to drive sporty. It's the same as if you had a delicious plate of food in front of you, only to realize that after the first bite everything taste awful.

Yeah I contemplated between Filipino and Indo...Speaking of, I love Jakarta. my roommate from school was from there, visited and fell in love. it was like 2 days of flying, but it was beyond worth it. the best place I've ever traveled to.

More like Hyundai styled the vehicle to be something that it's not. Like we said, if it weren't for the sporty styling, our expectations wouldn't have been so high. We have the same issue with the Scion tC, it looks sporty, but doesn't really drive sporty.

totally agree with you. Also Hyundai and Kia think by adding lots of lines and curves, just to make the car look cool, but actually no. it makes it age alot older. People saying that they have turbo and v8 doesn't make them an innovate company, plus with the false mpg ratings they were criticize about.

The Veloster doesnt need the proprietary jack from Hyundai, you can just use the regular USB that comes with iPods and iPhones, and the top trim model i have actually comes with a sport mode, along with being able to use the paddle shifters, although mine is a 2013 they might have changed it from the 2012! :-)

Agree with you in general about this car Sofyan, I've never liked the way any Hyundai sounds...very soulless...and they still have work to do with vehicle dynamics and especially ROAD FEEL to catch up with the way the car looks. I think more people need to bring this up because a lot of journalists seem to praise Hyundais because they are good on paper, but it's the less tangible, more subjective things that they arent' that good at yet.

I actually liked the steering and the gear switch is much faster than other Hyundai’s. I guess you are comparing it to a sports car that is actually a sports car. I test drove this car and I really liked it. Have my mind set on it for the fuel economy and sporty look because I’m 20

That starter is a deal breaker. The Hyundai Accent is a great sub-compact car but the least they can do is install a smooth sounding starter motor. My Mom's 09 Sentra starts up quiet. I don't know why but I like a car that sounds nice upon startup amongst other aspects.

Are these quality reliable vehicles? Do they have any serious long term issues, specifically the non turbo models? I've read somewhere about the GDI engines developing carbon build up causing potential engine issues. If anybody still owns their 2012-2013 model(non turbo) with high mileage, please give me some feedback on the reliability of this car and non turbo 1.6 liter engine. Thank you very much!

They had an engine call back on my 2012 but I’ve kept the same engine and it’s been fine, it has 139k on it and I pretty much beat the shit out of it, it’s my first car and tbh it’s more than reliable and fun enough for a teenager like me

I'm sorry, until you go from a 1995 honda del sol s, which has a 15 sec 0-60, then you have nothing to complain about. I have driven and will buy this car once the funds have come in. The Numb feeling is fine because how it actually controls is what matters to me. Almost everything you said about the packages is wrong also. It seems that just because of the looks you bashed the car. I do see the flaws of the car like the rear suspension, but you know what the amount of things even the base car comes with beats out any other.

I will admit they have improved but judging by their past they still are NOTHING to be proud of and have a long way to come and PROVE which so far they aren't doing so great at. Any CREDIBLE brand is a much better choice VW, Honda hell I would even buy a toyota or Subaru before a Hyundai because they're brands that have been around the block a few times. Sorry I'm not falling for Hyundai's "suddenly our cars aren't shit" act.

Hyundais have great exterior interior design but they drive unrefined and sloppy. It's ashame. One day maybe they'll get better.
