Just got through this process myself. Some suggestions now that I've done it: Always remove the shifter before dropping the gearbox. It's only four bolts and it makes the job a LOT easier. With it attached, you have to tilt the gearbox down significantly for the shifter to clear the body, which tilts the engine back so far it almost hits the firewall. If you have a bad throwout/release bearing (making noise), always do the clutch at the same time. On mine, the bearing had chewed into the clutch spring, and the clutch material was nearly gone anyway. Order a new flywheel while you're at it, the one that's in there will have a million hotspots. Just replace the lot: new flywheel, new spigot bearing, new clutch, new pressure plate, new throwout bearing. You do NOT want to have to do this job again in 3 years. Order it all at once and have it ready to go so you don't get stuck waiting for parts to arrive. Consider upgrading the throwout bearing to the Centerforce Hydraulic replacement bearing. It gets rid of the crazy hydraulic over manual shifting fork design for a more modern hydraulic only design which doesn't creak like crazy. While you're in there, change the PCV valve while the gearbox is removed. The PCV valve likes to go bad after ~10 years and starts blowing oil into your airbox. It's on the back of the engine against the firewall and the bottom bolt is almost impossible to get to normally, but it's easy when you can get to it from underneath. There are plastic clips that hold the fuel lines and gearbox/tcase wiring harnesses to the sides of the gearbox. They suck and they break easily. Order 5 before you start the job. The part number is Mopar 68149654AA Fuel Bundle Clip. The foam shifter seal will almost always disintegrate, the part number is Mopar 52122269AC Gearshift Lever Seal. Your shifter boot will probably have also turned to rubber gunk. The part number is Mopar 52060165AE Inner Shift Boot. Good luck!

I second all of this. Got the new clutch, flywheel, and McLeod Hydraulic bearing... I just liked the set up of the McLeod better. I will add that while you are at it, go ahead and order the replacement shifter, either B&M or I hear the Dorman has gotten theirs really tight (on tolerances) and is a good upgrade. Again, no need in doing all this work to lower that tranny again when you can do all the work associated with it at the same time. I went with the Lynx from Quardatech as it was the same price as the Dorman but claimed to be a precision sport shifter like B&M, It is very tight on tolerance and feels good even before getting everything fully in place. Didn't think about the PCV valve. Already got the Tranny remounted, but not the T-Case. I'll have to see if I can do it before buttoning everything up. I'll also mention, that if your Jeep has spent any time in the colder climates like mine has, that RZeppa joint is a bugger on the rear shaft at the Diff. I tried several punches and that thing ain't budging. Now my fear is I punctured the little thin metal cap and water is gonna get in there and destroy it. I think I'm going to try to heat it and melting a crayon around it. Any other suggestions for this problem?

@@JeepinJimmy Just taking a break right now. Got the inside down. Whomever had the Jeep before me put ADHESIVE on the 4WD lever! Yup. I had to angle grind a vertical seam down the plastic, slowly twist with adjustable pliers, and voila! It was all adhesive looking like black gorilla glue holding it on. Caked up on there, so I'll have to razorblade it all off and clean up well before I order my new knob. Crazy. But this is the kinda stuff we go thru when we buy a Jeep. hahaha! Somebody was like "you're never coming off again!" Working on the driveshafts next. Already drained the transmission and got the battery disconnected. Just kinda cruising. Not really in a rush. UberJeep AZ recommended I watch this video. I have my clutch replaced 3 years ago when I first bought her and she squealed like a banshee. But now I have a new issue... When I push down on the clutch it squeeks. Sometimes if it is warm outside or I haven't driven her for a day, it isn't so prominent. I was told to buy some lithium grease to spray the clutch, just need to find where to do that now... any suggestions? when I crawl under, I do not see any moving parts to spray, but it sounds like it is coming from inside the transmission area. I'm super new and don't have many tools (I just learned how to change my spark plugs last night!) so any direction on how to get my squeaky petal to stop being so squeaky would be greatly appreciated!
@JeepinJimmy Жыл бұрын
I just crawled under to have a look and there is not really any spot that you could grease. You could try spraying the slave cylinder on the driver side, but I'm not sure if that would even help because it is sealed in a boot. Also, there is a gap between the trans and the engine where you can see the fly wheel teeth. Dont spray anything up there because you dont want any grease getting between the flywheel and the clutch. It could be a bad throw out bearing, especially if a new one wasn't installed when you had your clutch done. Make sure you have clutch fluid and it could be worth flushing the fluid out for new fluid. Sorry that was a book, but you never know with squeaks! Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

Let’s say I’m not changing out the clutch and just installing the hydraulic center force bearing.
