2012 Nissan Rogue Belt TENSIONER replacement

Hey Brother. Just did this on an '09 Rogue. Same thing with the frame rail being in the way. The trick is to remove the pulley on the tensioner. Then I used a short socket (3/8" drive) set it up on the tensioner mounting bolt and placed the ratchet on the socket from underneath. There is plenty of room from underneath once the tensioner pulley is removed from the tensioner to reach and ratchet out the top mounting bolt. Remove the pulley on the new tensioner to reinstall. Just remember to use some type of thread-lock on the pulley bolt and torque appropriately after you mount the tensioner and reinstall the tensioner pulley. No need to remove the alternator. I just wanted to comment on this in case anyone else runs into the same issue! Thanks!

That definitely works. I just didn't want to break the threads loose on the new tensioner. That alternator is super simple to get out of the way, so I just went in through there. When I was turning wrenches full time, I had a 1/4 inch ratchet with a 12" inch handle, and that was gravy. Easy to get anywhere.

@@GrassRoots-fp4ty It took me some time looking at it and trying to figure out how the hell I was going to get to that top bolt. I was trying various swivels, extensions, sockets etc. Lol. Then I was like oh... duh. I hear ya on breaking the torque on the new pulley. This is why I mentioned using thread-locker on the pulley bolt and torquing. Admittedly, I used an impact to torque it down when reinstalling. Definitely want to torque to spec, but I just used the impact and made sure it still spun freely when it was installed. As anyone who uses air tools knows, there is no way to know how much torque you are truly applying with an impact wrench, but I was comfortable enough with it. Whatever way works and is most comfortable for anyone reading this... do it that way haha. Thanks for the reply.

Hey man this really helped bro. Just bought a new belt just to have it slip off and ruin it. Then got a new belt and realized it started sliding over. That's when I realized the tensioner was crooked. But this is way better then lowering the engine thanks for the info buddy

Thanks! I just had to change the belt on my sons rogue it was shredded apart and i noticed the tensioner is not keeping the belt square. So I have to do the tensioner now and the other vids are saying to remove the tip motor mount bolts and jack it up.

I worked at a dealership for years, and sometimes we would look at something that seemed impossible from underneath. Only to lower the vehicle and have that eureka moment looking from the top. So as I was looking at this from the side, the same thing kind of happened.

Use a 14 gear wrench on the bolt and be done with it...use a long reach magnet to pit the bolt back in behind the waterpump pulley no problems
