What should the tensioner pulley look like when idling. Should it have some back and bounce?

Is it normal the tensioner go bad this early. Mine went out at 100 000 miles alone with the belt. Also oem vs aftermarket matters, I bought the gates brand. Thanks

What kind of symptoms did you guys have? I am hearing a whistling noise above 20mph from the passenger side. Below 20mph three is no noise. I thought it was the alternator, but I still have the noise after replacing. I also put on a new belt. My mechanic ruled out wheel bearing.

I spent at least an hour trying to put it back on. In the end, it strangely fit on easily...still not sure what I did right.

I just figured how to easily put the belt back on!!! You loop the belt over the alternator from the top and feed it downwards. Now from the bottom, you put a 14 mm wrench on the wheel nut part of the tensioner and push it upwards to the left thus creating a large amount of slack allowing you to position the belt over the pulleys as required. I was trying to pivot the tensioner from the top side and then wedge wood in the gap to keep it slack so I could replace the belt. What a waste of an hour. Now I know!
