We owned this make and model for 8 years. Hydroplaned and rolled two months ago, totaled the car. Both driver side and passenger air bags deployed. Husband drove and only person in the vehicle. He walked away with zero bruises, cuts and scrapes. Facts. The car is completely dangerous merging on to an interstate. It’s a Barney rebble delight. But floor boards don’t roll back for occupants to help move this powerless hunk of metal.

Considering it missed most of the actual steel structure (the hood/bonnet is too short, i doubt it could even fit any reinforcement beneath), it did pretty well. It also got 1st place safety-wise in its category. Overall, quite good for a car this size/budget

If you collide with oncoming traffic you're in deep shit. However by far most of the time an alert driver doesn't drive at 40 mph into an unmovable and completely solid object. Also the pedals retract wich helps preventing injuries to your feet.

Either someone was bribed, or this is REALLY pushing the boundary of what acceptable it. I would not take this video as a good example of a head on collision. These cars weight 2,400 pounds at most. Most cars are heavier. Since the structure of the driver compartment was rather folded, it would probably be wise to assume a level higher would be too much for this car. Not to mentions the g forces would be much greater than this test. Conclusion: If you're going to get into a head on collision, this ain't for living it
@iihs-hldi Жыл бұрын
This is just over the acceptable/marginal boundary but still in the acceptable range. Its major downgrades were marginal structure and acceptable dummy kinematics, but all the dummy injury measures were in the good range. One acceptable rating for head/neck, hip/thigh, or chest would've bumped it into marginal overall. And as you point out, it's a good reminder that frontal crash tests shouldn't be compared across vehicle classes. It's likely the Spark would encounter a heavier crash partner in a real multi-vehicle crash. You can see this in our ranking of driver death rates. The 2014 and equivalent Spark had a driver death rate of 96 in 2012-15, compared with an all-vehicle average of 30.
