My experience was not with a Snap On tool but Forscan. My 2010 F150 with TCM in lead frame attached to valve body has no “Transmission Characteristics Update” function in Forscan software which is found in newer models under PCM Module listing. I was told this update of Solenoid Strategy Code and Valve Body id entry is also not available through Ford IDS software either for my 2010 F-150 with 6R80 transmission. Apparently the TCM was removed from the lead frame and all programming and control of valve body is now handled by the PCM module in the newer model Ford vehicles using the 6R80. In my case my new rebuilt valve body worked fine after clearing of adaptive tables and reset all adaptive tables followed by a TCM Module reboot “all found in Forscan in Service Procedures section.” My transmission solenoid shifts have adapted and learned just fine, and is working perfectly so far. I hope this info can be of some help to someone with early year 6R80 before they changed to a different lead frame without an imbedded TCM and using different style solenoids as well.
